Here is my dog Rocky. He is is 3 yr old Belgian Malinois. Yes they are awesome but they rarely have an off and will want to play all day! If your sleepy, sick, tired, they will still need to be worked. Watch my Mali and enjoy, but understand the drive. Yes the are cool dogs that can do amazing things, but working malinois aren't for the lazy. These dogs want to work all day, their who life. So if you think you want a belgian malinos think again. Thanks for all the support

Guy at my gym had one that he brings in every day. He said it took 4 years for the dog to only be energetic 18 hours a day instead of 24 hours. When I lived with my parents, we had a Malinois X Greyhound from the shelter. Best dog ever. Outside the house, she showed best of both worlds. Very obedient, also of the leash. Always kept by my side, without formal training. When she had the 'okay' to go, she ran like crazy. She had the natural desire to please. Sat when I asked, always walked by my side, looking at me for a command. Once I forgot to say 'come, girl', and she was waiting on me, 100 feet behind. I bet her previous owner taught het, but it came so natural to me. She was the very first dog we met at the shelter, and it was an instant click. She was very social with strangers, especially kids. Kids called her 'Bambi', because of her disproportional ears. In-house she was a couch potato, but very protective. Unfortunately, my parents divorced and Byoux, that was her name, ended up with my mom. My dad and I lived 1 mile away. One night, she escaped from my mom's house and got run over, probably looking for me. I feel sick to this day, 20 years later. Best. Dog. Ever.

100% on this. My brother trains with Police and SAR teams, had two GSD's, both from Czech working dog lines. There is a big difference between a dog breed from your local breeder and one from a working dog line. The latter can come with a bloodline that can sometimes go back over a hundred years, all bred for a specific purpose and they all come with an unbelievable amount of drive. His GSD's basically had two speeds: sleep and 110%, there was nothing in between. They are truly incredible animals BUT, as you said, its literally 24/7/365. My brother isnt married and has no kids and always said if a woman ever told him "its me or the dog", he'd send her packing. Sadly, all his dogs have passed and he has since stepped away from it because it literally dominated his life for about 20 years, but its an experience I always truly appreciated. Much respect to you as you probably have over 1000 hours into this dog.

@@anthonygordon2164 And bam you just contradicted yourself trying to lie. You know what game bred means? It's meant for bully breeds such as Staffys, APBTs, American Bulldogs, and another pitbull breed I forget. Game bred literally means it's meant to HOLD ON TO GAME AND NOT LET GO. In other words, you got an independent dog that thinks and acts on his own, nothing like a working line mal or GSD who was bred to please their handlers. Sure you can teach them a few tricks, but to claim they have the same level of obedience as a belgian mal is ludacris. If you actually did breed game-bred pitbulls and understood what game-bred meant, then you'd be agreeing with me, not spouting nonsense for your favorite breed.

@4lphy275
@4lphy275 3 года назад
@@indakgalak Basically yeah, of course it is trainable, just make sure it's pure breed. If it is a mix, I wouldn't get it, it's my personal opinion. This dog has to be stimulated daily, he needs at least 2-4 hours of exercise a day. If not properly handled the dog can become aggressive. So if Your husband works I am not sure if he is going to have enough time to work with the dog. But anyway, I understand why he loves this breed, I do too. They are very loyal. One more important thing is to know, who the parents of the puppy were. Were they from the working line, if so that means doggo is going to have a lot more energy. Take care! Regarding all of that, they are awesome. 😃😃

@daviddieudonne7829
@daviddieudonne7829 3 года назад
@@indakgalak hi, I don’t know what you ended up doing, but as a first dog, I wouldn’t recommend a malinois, especially not if you don’t really want pets and you are the one going to be home all day. The dog will love you to death (literally) but he will ask a lot of time and energy. If you know it’s not your thing, he’s going to annoy you and you’ll annoy him. That will result in an overcompensating behavior from him. Very likely biting furniture, shoes, whatever. Especially a puppy. For a first pet, I would recommend or an older dog, that has been trained and is already “ calmed” Or the more “ lazy “ dogs, they can be big or small. People love dogs, but when and how it suits them, that’s not how it works. A dog like a malinois needs attention and physical and mental stimuli. That means several walks a day and other challenges too. The dog doesn’t care if it’s warm or cold or raining... There are so many types of dogs that could fit you better and believe me I recommend you taking one, for you husband but also for you. You might not want pets, but you’ll end up loving them, trust me. But start with something easier to handle. And beware, all dogs need attention and a way to get their energy used. Good luck.

I grew up with one of these dogs, not having any siblings it was always my best buddy, from a young age until my early adulthood (she got old for this breed, over 16 years old). Absolutely wonderful animals. When the clock would announce the specific times a day on which we would go to the forest, and you did not have your shoes yet ... she would get up from her place and would go nuts and bring you your shoes, all happy and up convincing you to put them on because it is time to go! Fantastic sparring partner as well, you could fight and play around but she would always know it was just a game. For people unknown to this breed it must have looked intense. Unbelievable work ethic, even in her late senior years. Best friend I ever had, and I still miss this dog dearly 15 years later.. As soon as I have the time to have one again I certainly will.

The U.S. Army had these dogs working as I.E.D. dogs. Since I was in charge of a Route Clearance platoon, we had the chance to work with several of them, and I must say, they are the smartest dogs I've every come across in my lifetime. The handlers were excellent, and the dogs were beyond awesome. We would hit our target, the handler would open the door to the vehicle, the dog would hit the ground and move in a coordinated manner by what the handler yelled out. It was truely amazing watching this dog "grid work" before our troops hit the ground, and even after our 5-25's this dog found 3 buried explosives that would have wounded or killed our "boots on the ground" troops. Shout out to my brothers in arms that trained these magnificent dogs, outstanding work, and they DID save lives.

I've had an old retired police dog like this 20 years ago. She kept me safe while I was building cabins outside with my little brother. She didn't need a leash. You just called her 1, 2 times or you whistled and she would let you know she is there. We had the same place on the couch. We had daily battles about it. When she lost, she started mumbling like a cranky old lady. Every time I went to get something to drink or play, she took over the place on the couch. When I came back she always looked at me like "Don't you dare, mister!" These dogs have quite an excellent personality.

mrhoffame when you have a Malli you have no choice but to work w/ them for hrs every single day. For years & years before they settle enough to where you can relax a little. These dogs are not for the lazy. I've known 11 & 13 yr olds that we're still mischievous & high energy when not given enough stimulation. These are working dogs with a brain that doesn't shut off and infinite amounts of energy. Lots of fun if you're up for it.

I have one. The Mal is a great dog and I love mine to death, but this guy is correct. If you don't have the time, don't get a Malinois.

We had a malinois chow mix - got her as a puppy from the pound, the most beautiful sweetest smartest dog. She lived to 15. We still miss her.

I'm assuming you had a "positive" mix, because having a highly intelligent extremely driven but fiercely stubbornly independent highly territorial guard mix sounds like a nightmare.

@@tyywitdalocs yeah, for shure, but chow chows are kinda hard to train, even you being a good trainer, they are sooooo independent, i had one who died this year, in april, and other who is 3 years old, the 3 years old is kinda crazy because we at dont did too much training on him, thinking that would be alright, like the other one, but he have such a strong personality, that we cant deal sometimes, in some breeds i think its depend more on the dogs
