My transcription of this gem Lyle left for us.
Only one word comes into mind when I think about it, "hip".
Very tasty phrasing and rhythm all the way. He was one of the greats, I hope i did it justice.
All blues licks transcribed note for note. Some left hand part might be inacurate at times.
"x" means ghost notes (play lightly, or simply ignore if you're not looking for the ultimate feel).
"x" might also mean notes you can ignore on 4/5 finger voicings and voicings i'm not 100% sure of.
Very fun to play - intermediate level. Enjoy!

New to Lyle Mays and the Pat Metheny Group, but I just have to say how awesome of a sound he creates here. Somewhere between cool jazz and RnB, but also evocative of an epic 50's ballad with those strings. Great piece of music; thank you for transcribing!

very interesting what you just said. This tune is indeed very modern and at the same time, not quite that. To me it's the combination of the phrasing and the groove. I guess it certainly does not fall in the usual traps of modern stuff, sometimes too technical. It most likely emphasizes great composition skills and tastes
