The truth is that neurosurgeons can quit after 10 years of work based on their income, but most people can't make the same level of salary even if they work for over 30 years.

What are you talking about. The neurosurgeon said when he quit he had enough to just cover him for a few years, no where near enough to retire. And he went to an MD program which usually comes with a lot of debt, around $100,000 total when this surgeon went to school. That $100k dont include what he paid to attend MIT for college

Get your own content,instead of narrating the X Neurosurgeons. He is finding his inner self amongst the natural environment with his dog. His wife supports him. He is in the here and now, he is obviously thought things through before he left his job, which was his calling at the time. Not everything is about money, prestige or material things. For a long time he worked, he already said he had made good money. He is happy right now through nature,which helps him to heal.

Yes, Dr Goobie is completely in the here and now. No control or manipulation. It took me about 10= years of therapy/counseling to come to this point where I am not afraid to process my own thoughts. And sometimes they can be quite bizarre! Feelings too, everyone of them. Being so aware of my own inner world, I am more empathic (to myself and others) and also in the here-and-now with most anything that comes my way. I dont have to run ahead of myself in my thoughts and create even more anxiety. I take it one thought at a time as I listen to myself process them. For some reason, I believe this DrCatsLab is still too intense in her presentation, she needs to do her own inner work first and use "I" statements.

2 takeaways: First, it is true that not everyone can just "quit" but I bet more can quit and would like to but don't. I still give Goobie the edge that he has the strength to do it. Second, it doesn't take a neurosurgeon to see that our medical system is broken.

Really pleased to see this compassionate, thoughtful (common sense) opinion of the Goobie video... about the solution to his self-diagnosed 'midlife crisis'. In theory, the idea is inspiring and idealistic - reality and practicalities are quite different concepts. Each of us should aspire to a life of good health and happiness, and some of us may be fortunate enough to achieve those goals without drastic changes to lifestyle and/or career. I believe we should start with considering change within ourselves - finding some degree of satisfaction with our relationships, balancing work/life commintments, and feeling gratitude for whatever we have... Start with a positive outlook within the mind and consider all options from there.

Thank you Cat for your common sense advice to those who might be considering following the path of someone like “Dr. Goobie”. It’s important to recognize that Dr. Goobie has an MIT Education, and had experienced a successful career, financially. In other words, Dr. Goobie had the “luxury” of being able to “quit”. If things don’t work out after leaving, Dr. Goobie has a respected education, and the ability to return to medicine either as a surgeon or teaching. Most people do not have the option available to Dr. Goobie. We would all like to “escape” our 9-5 jobs, and live in our version of paradise. But, the realities are most of us cannot. The key to happiness is usually not found in “escaping” from the grind or reality. “Happiness” and “paradise” can be found where you are if you make the decision to change your perceptual set. You can live in what you perceive is paradise, and be unhappy. It is not the external environment that creates a feeling of happiness. Happiness is within. All I have to do is look in your eyes, Cat, to see that wherever you are, happiness thrives. The voice in your eyes is deeper than all roses 🌹

Well if Dr. Goobie could get enough ood references to credential him back to the Healthcare system, if and when he wants to return to practicing medicine. With his video, he probably upsets those in power and if they see their revenue drying up because people learn the right things, Dr. Goobie may have some challenges explaining his gap and finding trustworthy references that would help him get through the credentialing process.
@aaronvu6292
@aaronvu6292 4 дня назад
If you have a little understanding about Dr Goobie's environment and personality. You would kind of understand why he's in medical field and why he's quitting: His father is a doctor, actually very good one. But, since he was young, he leaned toward humanity behavior/philosopher. Money is important. But I felt this video was heavily just discussing about status and financial rewards. But little about traditions and spiritual rewards.

The problem is "Hospitals and doctors need to make money". Of course they do but the medical system , at this time, designed only to make money. Are heliports for doctors on hospital roofs a sign of success or endless greed?
@alvingoodman6539
@alvingoodman6539 2 месяца назад
Well, that is certainly one sided. Heliports on hospitals is firstly for patients. Trauma cases, and emergency cases need to be addressed very quickly. Not to make a buck very quickly but because people can die without quick treatment. The money comes last, and sometimes not at all. Not everyone has insurance and not many people have a checking account big enough to pay a large hospital bill that saved their life. So, let’s get real here. People need to understand that living on the edge, drinking and driving, smoking and eating unhealthy diets is not a doctors or a hospitals problem. It’s yours. The healthcare system is broken because people do not want to take responsibility for their health problems. Give me a drug. Give me a surgery. Then go back to living as you did before.

Failure gives you knowledge and understanding of what works in your life. Try a different job rather than quitting altogether.

Good neurosurgeons are hard to find. People need them for procedures that save their lives. When a grocery store clerk quits it doesn’t affect people’s lives. When a neurosurgeon quits people with tumors, Parkinson’s, brain aneurisms, etc., can’t get treatments they need. DBS is life changing for many Parkinson’s sufferers. This video is nonsense, these things DON’T HEAL THEMSELVES. 🙄 Financial planning, I don’t think a multimillionaire needs financial planning at age 40. Just squirrel away a couple million, done. Gee whiz.

Yeah...I don't get the big deal about that guy's video either. He's just burnt out and I guess statistically neurosurgery has the least "best outcomes" on average than all the other surgeries. After his hiatus, just retrain into something else that makes less money and has less stress (no shame in admitting that)...he'll have to work at something. Or stay in neurosurgery and work only a few days a week...go part-time; I would think there's not a lot of neurosurgeons in the world, he can most likely call the shots at his employer on how much and when he wants to work. I don't see the big deal here...he's hardly the only one who's ever been burnt out on the job or ended up in an occupation they found out they didn't absolutely love. At least do something that you semi-like...life is too short.

I agree completely with Dr. Goobie. The "healthcare" system has become a death trap for both patients and providers alike. I am a Nurse Practitioner. Worked in "healthcare" since 2008. I have taken care of patients from the White House to top Generals of our nation at Walter Reed. I've worked in Primary Care, Psychiatry, and Neurology and it's all the same every where I go. I had to leave because you cannot be ethical or moral in our system today. Only GOD can heal us. This is happening for a reason, but we all have a choice. I choose to tell the truth. Then, he can just retrain and transfer into something else less stressful (no shame in admitting that) and less high paying (he doesn't seem like the status type) in the medical area. Or stay in neurosurgery and go part-time, only a few days a week. He's got all sorts of options. Dunno why this video is getting flack. If the goobie dude had delivered same message with far less prestigious credentialing, his video would not have received many views. He wasn't especially unique or articulate with his message any more than would be commensurate on average for such a video from someone who was changing jobs from let's say, working as a nurse to opening up a small business of hand-made goods. There was nothing practical or particularly innovative about his advice. Good for him, but it's fine to have a plurality of perspectives so people don't blindly jump on the clickbait train and follow his advice without understanding the context.
