Before you sell a breeding cat WATCH THIS 

Yes the cat fancy can be very closed off to new people. I think it is resistant to change and has a bit of a hierarchy even though it’s all voluntary as far as the positions and roles that govern it. I like the idea of new people with new ideas and new energy joining us. Every new breeder is someone who might help pack up a show or look after the Facebook page for their association lol.

They shouldnt be fluffy :) they have a short, crisp and dense coat. Putting weight on may be relative to age and breeding. They dont fill out till age two and three plus. Some will never be super bulky. My top show cats are but that has taken a lot of selective breeding :)

Yes and no. You can do it and it will have the potential to double up on all the good stuff. The issue is if there is any bad stuff as you will double up on that too. If the stud has a very genetically diverse background it will condense it down. If he is already closely bred you dont want to go closer bred. You need to go a bit further back than just the five gen ped. How many common ancestors does he have, how many repeats already. It's a tool to take a shortcut to a better cat but it comes with risk.

I think you have it around the wrong way 😀. You breed and sell pets and then consider selling breeding cats to breeders when you are asked. A loving pet home as a desexed cat is always the best home. Even though you will get more money for a breeding cat a pet home is always best for the cat. You don’t go out looking for buyers for a stud cat. You sell pet cats until someone comes along and asks you for a breeding cat then you work out if you really want to and if they are a good person to own your cat. 🐈

Cinnamon comes originally from Abyssinian cats. Black is the original colour and Chocolate and Cinnamon are versions of it basically. They are both alleles or partner genes of black. I have a basic genes podcast coming very soon.

They are as far as being a contract. What they can do is make it very clear what you have agreed in writing because here is the secret. Reputation is everything in the cat fancy. If the buyer does the wrong thing you have evidence to say so and you can make that public. It’s a social contract not a legally binding contract.

I was just thinking today that I have done videos on the boys but not the girls. They are more like pets but not pets. I feel like what you are describing is more wanting to have the kittens. Breeding is about improving on a type of cat and with a focus on showing it. Maybe think about fostering a pregnant cat or a litter of kittens. That would meet your need but not be so involved.

But also most of us planned to just have one or two and now….. lol.

I can imagine wanting to keep doing it. I have soon to be 8 year old girls. I'm 56. One twin has liver cirrhosis and I think this will be a good hobby for her. She loves loves our BSH. My idea is to breed healthy loving playful pet cats. I'm sure as the girls get older they see will want to show them. I have chronic pain so I would not have more than 1 litter at a time. Which I thought worked perfectly as I would love to breed playful loving cats and have all the time in the world to do this. I also have 4 adult children 2 of which live near me that could and would love to help out if needed.

@@CatBreedingforBeginners you can only see breeding from a cat fanciers point of view. Try seeing breeding from a pet owners point of view. Breeding should absolutely be about improvement of type but it has nothing to do with showing for the people who do not show, which is a lot! We want the quality you breed with the loving , cuddly personalities that comes from spending many hours with each kitten. Breeders that breed for type and have separate rooms just for the kittens, breed too many to spend enough time with each kitten and the new owners end up with a kitten that is not humanised, cold and aloof. I know this I bought two and was totally heartbroken and gutted I spent thousands of pounds. So I chose to be the solution I was looking for. I breed with the quality of the kitten in mind like you do but I’m not breeding for the cat fancier, I’m breeding for pet homes, for people like I was. I recently sold a kitten to an ex breeder and she noted just how different my kitten was to others she had had in the past. She said it was obvious that I had spent a lot of time with him. I have two queens and one male who are my family indoor pets with access to an outdoor catio and we have two litters a year each. I spend almost 24/7 with the kittens while they’re with me. There’s no cages and as they develop the kittens access to the house opens up. But then my whole home is set up just for my cats. As far as I am concerned I have chosen to breed them it’s only right they come before me.

@@Tamara01234 I dont breed cats to be pets. Because there are plenty of cats out there that need pet homes. I breed to show. I breed for type. I breed to breed the best version that is closest to the breed standard HOWEVER I also know you don't get one perfect kitten in a litter. You have to breed many kittens to get the one you want and need and THEY need great loving homes. You also cant show a cat that has a bad temperament. They have to be happy to be there and be handled. So that is why I have put temperament first for a long long time. And that is how I want new breeders to be breeding, for show but knowing about how important temperament is.

It can be really tricky at the start so you do what you can with what you have, do things the right way and it pays off down the track. Good luck!
