I've watched hours & hours to learn how to do these magical wraps. You're the first one that actually showed from design to engrave! I can't thank you enough for your video. I don't feel so intimidated now.

Amazing job 🙌🏻. I’d highly recommend a set of calipers for quick & super accurate diameter measurements rather than a tape 😊

@krisknowlton5935
@krisknowlton5935 Год назад
To help yourself out with measuring your cups or anything you ar engraving it would be a good idea to get yourself a 6" caliper. Then you can just measure the diameter and multiply that by 3.1415926 to get the circumference. Lightburn has added a warp feature that may aid in the design of cups that are bigger around at the top than they are at the bottom. Also when you want to align the tops or bottoms of two objects is simple in LightBurn. Just highlight both objects and use the alignment tool. Nice video and I hope you have as much fun engraving as I do. It's a good ways to spend one's retirement.
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes Год назад
Thanks Kris - I have a caliper - hadn’t thought to use it for that. I’ve been investigating the warp feature but it’s behavior isn’t quite what I expect! Have you used it for cups in this way? Thanks for the alignment tips too! Appreciate it

@@ThingsKatieMakes I often wonder if people buy these lasers thinking they will be able to make a couple hundred grand a year making stuff and selling it on ETSEY. There is a lot of work and head scratching involved and a lot of wasted material. So they just give up. I have a feeling you don't fit that category. I feel fairly certain you will figure out how to make it work the way you need it to. That's what makes it fun. You have a great evening.

@blaineeveringham6042
@blaineeveringham6042 Год назад
Thanks for sharing! I'm a little confused by how you are able to base the whole design based on the largest portion of the cup. Why do you not need to a much smaller pattern on the bottom of the cup since it's substantially smaller? Example top of top design is 6 inches and bottom 4?
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes Год назад
So it’s kind of complicated to explain. It isn’t like cutting a vinyl wrap because the laser is just traveling in a straight line, and the distance it goes on each rotation is determined by the rotary, it doesn’t actually care about the size of the cup. It’s kind of like why once you’ve determined your steps per rotation, that applies to all cups unless the part on the roller is a totally different size than what you’re engraving, like a water bottle. So I need to make sure that the largest part gets fully covered with the design. The smaller part will see some compression of the design. Maybe I’ll try to film an example with some lines to show what that looks like.

Looking to start my small business, what kind of engraver do you recommend that is not expensive to start out? Thanks
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes 10 месяцев назад
Hi there - that's a pretty difficult question to answer without more context. But, I think the new Thunder Laser USA ThunderBolt is pretty amazing $5k price point, with a 30watt RF tube and has a z axis so you can do tumblers as well. Not sure if that's the range of not expensive you are looking for. If you really don't know what you want to do, you can go for something like a Glowforge Aura which will give you a taste of what a laser could do for $1200.

How do you take into account the yeti logo and not engraving into it? Thank you!
@ThingsKatieMakes
@ThingsKatieMakes Год назад
Hi - a couple of options here - you can use aluminum tape to simply cover the logo, or you'll need to factor it into the design - I'd then likely center my starting point on the yeti logo to make sure I had enough room.

Just make sure that the are cleared by your nozzle, air assist, auto-focus or whatever might hit them. A longer focal distance lens helps with the need to clear and stay in focus at the same time
