Great vidio and no rattling on about rubbish thanks. I can also recomend a towel under the barrel and gun if you do this inside so the good lady wife does not crack it 👍

If any shooters out there are having odd results after doing a thorough clean, try just taking the carbon out with patches - don't scrub too hard & leave a bit of copper in. My 308 used to take about 10 shots to settle down, now it's down to 1. I take the copper out when accuracy starts to drop off and I couldn't be happier. Some girls like it a little dirty, so don't be afraid to experiment. (But take precautions against rust)

good video bro, for people who don't know it is very informative. I clean with bore cleaner on a brush, then patch that and finally moving on to g96 with a patch until I use it next time and patch it with a clean one as we all know, oil in a barrel causes excess pressure. note that the first 2-3 shots will shoot high after cleaning because copper equilibrium hasn't built up.

I like your presentation mate, very informative. I haven't seen any G96 over here in England but i use Browning Legia spray instead. It's ok to wipe over the firearm including the woodwork. Finally, i store all my guns in those impregnated gun socks before putting them in the cabinet, protects from knocks too. Keep them vids coming. All the best from the UK.

i use ballistol, for my lubricant its credited by a few older shooters to keep a film on a rifle for at least 30 years. old anecdotes about granddads mauser 98 still not rusty after 45 years in a damp dark shed left and forgotten then pulled out and shot after removing dust. i know its probably bullshit but ive not had problems and it keeps my thoughts about rust at bay

Hey ozzie, love your videos. Couple of questions, do you clean after every time you shoot? I probably sound like an idiot, but I have read elsewhere that people only clean their barrels after every 500 round or so. Also, would you worry about breaking in a 22lr barrel?
@kekeke4467
@kekeke4467 6 лет назад
Some people only clean their 22lr every 500 on the basis that the wax that is present on the 22lr will coat the inside of the barrel and act as a lubricant. However it has been scientifically proven that this is an old wives tale. Therefore clean your gun after you shoot it ASAP.

@kawarthaohio5507
@kawarthaohio5507 9 месяцев назад
A couple of things to add - always use a bore guide, preferably one with an o-ring seal in the chamber. This ensures a smooth entry of the cleaning brush/jag into the throat and also will prevent any solvent or lubricant from running back down the barrel into the chamber and action; oil or solvents can also soften a wood stock or mar the finish. It's also vitally important to not to use much oil, if any, on the bolt as transferring oil to the cartridge as you load is a bad idea. The expansion of the brass and friction between brass and chamber are critical in containing the high pressure gasses and not putting excessive pressure on the bolt. It's generally recommended to just grease the contact points on the bolt. Additionally, over-zealous cleaning can damage barrels, and I would argue that brass brushes are seldom, if ever, needed. The stiff nylon brushes are perfectly fine. And NEVER put abrasives down the barrel; it's just not necessary and will, over time, damage the lands.
@JB-sm2ie

When I was cleaning my rifle the other day I pushed my cleaning rod all the way through the bore instead of unscrewing the jag and pulling it back down the breech end. How bad is this?

Bore guides are always going to minimise damage but I just take care and have no problem
@repairfreak
@repairfreak 3 года назад
@@ozziereviews Never understood other than maybe keeping fluids and debris out of the chamber how the bore-guide will stop any rod from flexing and still possibly bumping further inwards. After all, how is a brass cleaning rod going to ever scratch a steel barrel which is much harder? If the brass rod is so bad to use without a bore guide for potential of possible scratching, why then would anyone in gods name send a brass cleaning brush through it?. Not pulling the patch back through into a clean chamber would make sense, however if chamber is cleaned last why should this even matter? Also, I find it hard to believe that any damage can happen by pulling backwards a jag or patch holder as long as you dont hook the end of rod jag or patch holder against the sensitive crown opening of barrel. Here once again, most jags or patch holders are going to be brass or plastic and therefore be much softer than the barrel end, so how could this do anything even if it snagged pulling jag or patch holder back through towards breach? I think there is a lot of nonsense out there about some of these so called cleaning rules. Is it just me, or does anything I say sound correct, or am I just stupid and not understanding something? Anyone please comment, I’m always willing to listen and learn without taking offense. Cheers and happy shooting! ✌️😎👍

if you take no other advice, take THIS ADVICE. NEVER CLEAN YOUR GUN WHEN YOU ARE INTOXICATED. ALWAYS REMOVE ALL AMMO FROM YOUR MAGAZINES DURING CLEANING. this may seem excessive or superflous but it could save your life. you will naturally become distracted during the boring process of cleaning so ensure you are clear headed and have NO ammo in your mags to prevent accidental discharge

Is WD-40 ok to use on rifles and shotguns?? Apparently it is fish oil base and not mineral oil !! I was always told to pull through a rifle and not push through as you can bend your rods if you use to big a patch, using the “eye piece” in the cleaning kit. I do like the jig , sa it in my cleaning kit and never knew what it was used for, now I know it as a push through not a pull through thanks for that. I was in the army and we originally used string pull through for the L1A1 SLR and the F8 Styer, notorious for breaking mid way up the barrel and I think one bloke lost an eye, when the integral plastic eyelet broke after he used to big a patch and it stuck in the chamber. Thanks for the review of the civy way to clean a barrel.

Bit of a setback there as a friend who loaned me the XT needed it back, so doubtful it will get done now...

A local gun smith told the father in law today that he wouldn't leave G96 on a rifle after the cleaning process as it would still be cleaning/corroding steel components .. He would also not use it on wooden stocks .. I'm presuming he either A - didn't know what he was on about B - not referring to "complete gun treatment" C - trying to sell another brand of cleaner ??? What are your thoughts ?

Exactly, I have been using this since I was a kid basically and it is designed to do the 3-in-one, so leaving it on is what it is designed to do and that's protect the firearm... there's a big difference between me and dealers/salesmen/gunshops, and that's that I don't need to sell products to make a living, I simply show you how a product either works or doesn't work for me and G96 is a product I swear by. So I'll leave it in your hands to make up your mind on who is telling you the truth...

how often do you clean your guns

I keeo them oiled up and seldom clean them. If accuracy or the firearms function decreases it's time for a clean. Every 100-200 rounds in a centre fire firearm and shotguns is when I get the actual solvents out. It's a subjective topic.

After each session (as I usually shoot 50-100 as a minimum) but if it's just a couple of shots and I'll be using the firearm the next day or so, I'll leave it til then...
