Im confused because a lot of videos i have been watching about Determinate varieties say to remove the suckers..Ive never removed anything other then brown leaves. But I'm used to growing up north and now this is my first time growing in Florida where its much hotter outside and last year i didnt have any luck with my tomatoe plants because the sun killed them and they didnt even bare fruit or flowers...Nothing...so now im nervous about these Bonnie Plants Better Bush Hybrid Tomatoes Determinate i just bought today...i need some advice someone since im going to begin placing them in pots tomorrow..thanks!!!
I would only remove suckers from determinates if it is absolutely necessary (like if they are too close to the ground or some other plant health reason, for example). Other than that you more than likely are just limiting it's one-time harvest. Thanks for watching!!!
Thank you! 👩🌾If they aren't labeled, you may have to watch and see how tall it gets. If it stays under 4-5 feet tall, it is most likely determinate. If it gets 5+ feet tall (mine were way over 5 foot tall) then it's indeterminate.
How do i determine what stem will produce? My tomato plants are more like bushes . I want to thin out the usless growth to allow the energy to grow more fruit.
Let me get this straight. if i have flowers early ( this plant had flowers when i bought them ) should i pinch them off. Newbie here can't you tell lol I just have planted not even a foot tall yet
Im just glad I'm not the only one with 5gal buckets everywhere. Lol. My cherry is in a fabric 5gal and it's just short while the others are tall and flowering. I have one little baby on one. Should I pluck it so the plant doesn't focus it's energy on just that one?
Hi Augie !!!! Thank you for your tips growing tomatoes. I am still having a bit of trouble finding the suckers, on the determinant plants. I was wondering if you could bring the camera closer into the branches that can or can not be pruned. Thank you.
@@garyblum3301 Hi Gary! It took me awhile to get the hang of finding suckers too. If you pause the video at 2:05 my finger is pointed directly at the sucker. It's the tiny branch shoot that is at a 45 degree angle. On a side note, you definitely don't want to prune off the suckers of determinate tomato plants. Let me know if that helps, and thank you for watching!
I recently planted a roma, a cherry, and a regular tomato plants into the ground. They are getting really bushy but don't seem to be getting taller. Should be pruning the suckers off?! They are flowering like crazy.
Alisha Berrey do you know if they’re determinate or indeterminate? If they’re determinate they’ll only get to 3-4 foot tall tops and tend to bush out. It’s the indeterminate that get *really* tall.
@@augiewithgardeningforbegin5574 H! Yes, my celebrity and roma are determinate. My cherry is indeterminate. I cut off the 45 degree smaller branches/shoots on the cherry plant but left a few bc they had flowers. Does this sound right?
RockYourNails I have the script written for one on peppers, I just need to film it. I do have a video on overwintering peppers on this channel... but my video on “topping” peppers will either come next or the one after the next. It’s definitely coming though!! 👨🌾
Since they aren't labeled, you may have to watch and see how tall it gets. If it stays under 4-5 feet tall and only produces 1-2 rounds of fruit, it is most likely determinate. If it gets 5+ feet tall (mine were way over 5 foot tall) then it's indeterminate.
Locate the flowers on your tomato plant. Are they at the end of the stem, or are there leaves at the end? If the flowers are at the very end of the stem, with no leaves coming after, you have a determinate variety. If there are leaves further along the stem than the flowers, it is indeterminate.
Sir, i planted Tomato seeds and now at 3 feet height but i don't know the type of it determinants or indererminants.... How to identify the types?. Thanks in advance for your reply
Do you know the name of the seed? I look them up by name. If you dont know, you dont need to prune, its optional as the video said but dont want to prune determinant.
You can, but I also don't see the harm in leaving it be to fall off on its own (that's what I do, provided it's a fully grown plant). Thanks so much for watching!
sona verma you know what? That’s a really good question! I’m so focused on pruning this time of year I’ve never noticed. If you’re sure the flower is a dud, there’s definitely no harm in removing it. Let us know if a new flower grows in its place!
Ezgi Şirip the majority of beefsteak varieties are indeterminate. There are some varieties I have seen, mainly hybrids at home improvement retail stores, that are determinate for folks that want to keep them in pots.
I was told it is rude for me to call someone brain dead for putting music on while one is speaking, But it is also very rude and inconsiderate to put music over under on top of voice on any video that you or anyone else makes where one is talking Pass this on to other brain dead rude video makers, People with hearing impaired have a serious problem and it is also appropriate to have caption for those who can't hear,
