Beginner gundog training- using a place-board 

Using a place-board in gundog training can be incredibly useful with younger dogs or busy dogs.
Don't rush or force the dog onto the placeboard, build their confidence stepping onto it and walking over it before asking for them to sit happily on there.
"Place"- once the dog is happy on the placeboard introduce the place command, place should mean sit on the board. Build up to sending your dog to the board from a short distance to ensure they understand what you're asking of them.
Stay exercise- Use the placeboard for improving your stay, it gives the dog a clear place to stay and gives you a clear place to put them back to if they move.
Recall- Use the placeboard to help with your recall position, getting the dog to sit in front of you on the board when they recall in. This type of exercise can help some dogs improve delivery issues.
Retrieve- As your dog is returning with the retrieve ask for place when they come in and to see if you can encourage the sit and present. If this causes your dog to spit the dummy out do not pressure this exercise as you want the dog to hold the dummy for as long as you require, sometimes pressuring a sit can cause them to drop and we want to avoid this.
