Beginner/Intermediate Speedrunning Tutorial for V1.1+ - All Bosses - Regular Category

EDIT: This was done on V1.1.5 as it was the current patch back then and since then, the acorn machine skip and double damage lobber EX's have been patched out along with other things. If you have the Steam version of the game you can patch down to V1.1.5 if you right click cuphead in your steam library and click properties and go to the betas tab. There will be a thing that says NONE, just click that and pick V1.1.5 to go to the version that is identical to what I used in this video! If you can't patch down know that the stuff in this video still is relevant but you will just be doing less damage due to the lobber EX's not being double.

Dude, you're like the Bob Ross of speed run tutorials. It's been a blast learning from ya. Did a race with a buddy of mine on this game a few weeks ago and I had no idea how fun this game is trying to speed run it until watching your vid.

Man this helped me so much, I started speedruning Cuphead only looking at WR runs wich was a pretty bad idea because there was a lot of difficult tech and hard skips, but your video showed a lot of safe strats and different methods to do the bosses, which helped my a lot. Thanks for the tutorial 😄 PD: My PB now is a 46:57 and my goal is a sub 40 mn run

When this game came out I fell in love with it but could only run it on my crappy laptop and wanted it to come to ps4 so bad, I even felt like learning how to speedrun it, something I never did for any game! While searching for speedruns I accidentaly found your tutorial, which was exactly what I needed! A few questions, is lobber and spread still the best dps for current patch? And what is current patch version number? So I can look for latest patch runs since on ps4 you can only play latest patch. Thank you so much for this video! I'm having tons of fun just by speedrunning 1st Isle by itself lol

That's awesome man! Glad the tutorial has helped, and yeah while the double damage lobber EX was patched out along with some other minor changes, as Ben McGuire said, in 1.2 (current patcH) lobber/spread still comes out on top with pea/spread at a close 2nd and roundabout/spread coming in at 3rd.

Thanks for this tutorial. Just a question, how do you do like the big lobber trap? An example is when you do baroness in your runs, you jump off of the candy thing and then you shoot a lobber and one of them goes super high and the rest normal lobber trap. How do you do the big lobber shot in your lobber trap?

You're welcome! For the lobber, how high they bounce is based on how high you are above the ground when you shoot it. So that's why I get on the candy thing and jump off of it to get extra height when I fire the lobber in the air.

www.speedrun.com/tools/Cuphead_DebugInfo-HitboxRenderer_vtg8y.zip This is what I use and there is a version of this for each major patch of the game you can use :D Just press CTRL-H to get rid of the hitbox viewer and you can press F1 or F2 to toggle the health bar and extra info on/off :)

Yep it is! You probably will have to do an extra lobber EX after the punches or opt to damage boost inside of them for a couple spread EX's to make it work. Just experiment with it and see how many EX's works for you :D

Yep! Just use whatever keys feel comfortable for you and everything should work out. There is some strong keyboard players that run the game so it's 100% viable and everything in the tutorial applies in the same way for controller or keyboard.

Does damage boost increase the amount of damage you cause while you're temporarily invincible?

It doesn't actually increase your damage but when done strategically can allow you to be in a spot where you are able to deal more damage than you could if you were just dodging everything.

Does anyone know if the double dmg wobbler works on the switch? I only ask cause I've been doing Goopy Le Grande for quite a few hours and I can't get that last stage nearly as fast as the video but I have been able to get the skip on the frogs a few times but not the fastest skip.

Unfortunately the double damage lobber was patched out of the Switch version and on the most recent patch (1.2.x) on PC also. So to get the double damage lobber you would have to be on PC and switch your game to version 1.1.5. Good news though is that lobber/spread combo is still a great combo on this newest version even without the double damage! You will just notice your times won't be quite as good and some strategies you will have to update a little bit as compared to v1.1.5 which is what I am playing on in this tutorial as it was the most recent when I made it.

This glitch was patched out in the current patch of the game. If however, you play on steam, then you can go to properties on Cuphead, then betas and then from a drop-down menu select whatever patch you want, in this case v1.1.5 is what you would want to have what I did in this video and it's the fastest patch for the 1.1+ categories.

It's called the debugger and is a modification we use for practice/testing only and it is very useful for that! It's a debug mode. Links are in the description. But you gotta be on either steam or maybe GOG. And you most likely need to down patch to 1.1.5 . Though it did work for me on 1.2 one time. Don't know why, and it never worked on it again. But it'll definitely work on 1.1.5
