Abbey is by far the best place to get all your kit, catering for different budgets from beginners to pros. And all the fittings/brass buckles I've bought are all top quality and far exceeded my expectations given the price! I was like a kid in a sweet shop lol

I know, Abbey's fittings are so good, I'd like to go to their foundry one day and have a look at the whole process of buckle making.

Something I tried recently as a leather dye, fountain pen ink. I have loads of different colour Diamine brand inks and they work brilliantly. I even have Diamine shimmer inks, they're finely glittery/pearlescent and my Daughter loves her leather toy horse saddles glitzy 😎 Look at their range as they have a lot of colours not available from traditional leather dye manufacturers.

Liked the video. Would have appreciated a bit more of a description on a few of the pieces though as to what exactly they are used for, what they do, etc.

This is a fantasist video. I love how you make everything so clear. I do have a couple of questions. What size scratch awl do you recommend? What size wing dividers do you recommend? Again thank you for the fantastic video.
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 4 года назад
Hey Debbie, I use a small scratch awl - I think it is 2 1/2", I am not too sure on the size of the wing dividers I use but 6" or 8" would be fine.

Hi Jo, I've really enjoyed watching your video's. I am looking to start leather work myself, just looking at what tools to get. please can you tell me is a stitch marker and awl better than a stitch punch, and do Abbey england sell to the public? best regards Lee
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 4 года назад
Hi Lee, it depends on what you intend to make really. If you want to make items with thicker leather then I'd recommend a stitch marker, you can always punch these through to start with. You will need to make an account with Abbey but you can do that online 👍

Hi Jo, thanks for the reply I have gone ahead and ordered all the recommended tools from Abbey, I emailed you through your website earlier in the week but not sure if you received it.I was wondering as you are local to me would you consider selling me some leather to start my leather-work project 2 dog collars for my dogs. best regards Lee

Doh!@@leepovey9084I totally forgot to reply to you!!! Sorry about that. Yes that shouldn't be a problem, If you let me know how much your are after that would be great. Jo

Hi! I wonder, what are these mysterious blue electrical tape stripes? Some tools have it without explicit (as for me) function, some of them don't. Is this sort of distinctive mark? And of course, thanks for your videos!
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 2 года назад
Some of the tools are used in my workshops so it's to indicate which tool belongs to which set so I don't get them muddled up 👍

@@JHLeather Thanks for reply! In addition, I want to say that it awes me how precise your one-move cuts and stabs and other stuff like that. Looks like strait edge is just optional thing for your mastery. It's pleasure to watch your videos.

Hi Joe, I just just queried the No.7 Awl blade with Abbey England and they said they've never heard of a no.7. Is there another term for it or equivalent? Thanks, SJ
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 3 года назад
Hey Shanice, the no 7 is in reference to the no 7 stitch marker. The awl blades I use are the diamond awl blades and I usually use the 1 1/2" for small work and a 1 3/4" for larger stitching. Hope that makes sense. Jo

thanks jo. I am only interested in making dog collars and leads for my pups. I went through your pdf and rewatched your video, i can not find a diamond awl blade of 2 3/4". i am beyond a noob at this and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have tons of hand tool wood working tools so i have a fair bit from your list already.
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 5 лет назад
Just looked and yes, 2 3/4" isn't listed, a 2 1/2" would be fine though 👌 www.abbeyengland.com/awl-blade-998.html

@@JHLeather not a big geographical leap from Devon to Wales, unless you're well up north. You might have picked up a bit of the Welsh. In any case, it's lovely, and I was being more nosey than I suppose I should. Keep the videos coming!
