Welcome to the Confident Beginner Series! In this first episode we will make a quilted market bag from a charm pack. All you need is 35 squares from a charm pack. From there you’ll need a corresponding piece of muslin and another of lining. Lastly, batting strips for the handles. Watch this tutorial and make this bag along with me!

Try using a hot hemmer ruler… its a thin flat heat resistant ruler that you can iron on.

Add a row of squares or a half a row, then adjust the lining size to match.

Thank you Sharon! Glad to have you watching. I learned to sew on my mom’s 60’s machine. I can’t remember what it was, but when I started taking home ec in 7th grade, that’s when my love for sewing took off! My first brand new machine as a young wife was a Singer back in 1983. I treated it with kid gloves and still have it today. I actually started FMQ on it with a darning foot. Since then, I invested in a Janome QC 6260 in the early 2000’s, $700 for a sewing machine I thought was a fortune back then. It’s now my travel machine as I bought the BabyLock Jazz II early this year.

I would add a couple of pockets to the lining before switching it in, I always add pockets inside.

Those hemmer rulers are great use mine often, just made 14 bags as thankyou gifts for my little sewing group. We had a workshop doing charity quilts from my stash/scroppy, beautiful quilts made for homeless and children in care.

@@lessonslearnt5966 yes bought out last of a couple of quilt shops, lost count of # of charity quilts that have been made. Still buy the occasional fabric for special projects. We all need 'NEW' fabrics.

I had to come re watch when putting handle on! I making a Halloween 🎃 bag for great grands but directions make no sense so came to watch this I knew there was easier way!! Thanks again! Oh I see you are with Darlene M I was exclusive shopper a few years back but decided I wanted more newer fabrics ! Small world

Yes, I was a patron for a while then I quit her. I’ve only recently resubscribed to her RU-vid channel only because I just had to see how in the world she was going to move from Maine to Mississippi.
