Beginner's Guide | Tamron 18-400mm Lens Review 

I have watched review after review on this lens and ALL were positive! After MUCH back and forth, I pulled the trigger (so to speak) and purchased one. Taking a trip to Alaska later this summer and felt this lens would be better than my kit 18-140, with my Nikon D5300. Have used it for shots of the moon, portraits, sports, landscapes and general photographs over the last 3 weeks. All I can say is I'm LOVING this selection. As Digital Goja notes this is a GOOD, ALL purpose lens. Could go into more detail, but all in all I'm VERY happy with the results for the investment (about $500 or more USD)! Thanks for the video.

I love Tamron lenses!!! I've got one I've been using for 12 years and it's still going strong.

I just bought this lens from you guys. Nice lens and feels built well. Can't wait to play with it more. The zoom is great. I have to work on keeping focus while video recording.

Hi Izzy /Yes train room Gary is back from the Dark Side, I was just doing a shoot last night for a Model Train Form / Magazine. The iPhone 7 Plus could not do the job. I had to use my Canon T6i 50mm lens, along with aperture priority. I set the aperture at 22, camera on tripod and 2 second delay on shutter, for no vibration. In model train photography we want every thing in focus, In this photo a classic Milk Truck and the building and train behind the Milk Truck must also be in focus. In model train photography the picture should look like the human eye was there with a prototypical view. I also use image stacking software. "Helicon Focus" Gary from Michigan / We get great snow for photography and thanks for the shout out. Frame 2:45 🚂

Wow! that is awesome... been thinking about the new Canon with the nano technology and the zoom it offers. However, this brings in another choice. What is your preference between the two?

I am a novice photographer learning photography by myself...but dslr lenses really bring magic out of photos...pretty soon..i will be starting my own youtube channel sharing my photography...hope that will bring inspiration out of everyone ......it has just been 2 months that i got my dslr and already 6-7 of my friends has bought this camera too.....major problem sometimes u face is...buy too many lenses for different purpose....my budget plan intially for dslr was 600-700 dollars......its been only 2 months and i have spent more than 2000 dollars in different lenses....if only tamron had bought this lens earlier..i would have saved..more than 800 dollars..

I enjoyed your video on the new Tamron 18-400. I'd be interested in knowing if you have tested that lens with older Nikon cameras such as the D300, D3300, D40 which I prefer to use over my D7100. Also what is the weight of the Tamron compared to a Sigma 150-500? Having tremors I'm having difficulty hand holding (tripod is not an option for my type of photography) my Sigma and am considering the Tamron. Thank you for your assistance! Duane

What's the aperture range? And vignetting at the extremes? I have had an 18-200 in my Nikon for the past 5-6 years and works great. But looking to upgrade to one with stabilization.

Other than reach using with a Nikon. Does the Tamron have issues with vignetting? My old Tamron 18-270 was pretty bad when it came to this issue. Gave that lens to my son and I bought the Nikon 18-200 which for me worked better. But now I'm interested in this new Tamron. How are the images with this lens?

This IS NOT A 400mm LENS. IT’s 400mm equivalent. I can’t believe online of the reviewers caught this. I have both the Tamron 100-400mm and the Tamron 18-400mm The 18-400 zoomed out to 400mm is about the same magnification as the 100-400mm zoomed out to 300mm Looks like some kind of hoax to me. The convention is to name lenses by actual focal length not full frame equivalent. Yet it seems that Tamron did exactly that on this lens? Any comments?

haha..switching to iphone..haha...may be he is not into photography ...but its always true that u can't take a dslr everywhere and everytime...sometime there are unpredicted moments which you want to capture ..so u can't take dslr out of your pocket...whenever i go with my friends for a tour...i have with me kit lens for little wider photos, prime lens for portraits and zoom lens to shoot out scenery....i carry led light too for evening photos because autofocus doesn't work for dslr at low light..so its too heavy..and camera stand too of course...but iphone has made life easy..where u don't have to carry such heavy things during all this time..........but ask yourself, you may capture thousands of photos but one better photo has more worth than any other photos.....great sharpness and cinematographic picture and wide angle veiw can't be achieved through an iphone....moreover...tamron 18-400mm is all round lens...u don't need to carry kit, zoom ,prime lens and camera stand....so its preety cool to have all those qualities in single lens...and it has decent macro too......take a camera body and take tamron 18-400 mm lens...and nothing else..if you are not into pro photography..

How was that a beginner's guide? Why does it take such large photos and change the shutter speed from my setting it to for example 250 to - I then see in LIghtroom afterwards - sometimes 1/8000???? Why, and how can I avoid it doing that?
