well done mate, I've forged hundreds of strikers, they are my most forged item. I favour a thorough quench these days and then anneal any parts I want to soften with a propane torch.

@@lufolkcrafts I use old files almost exclusively now so it all depends on the file, I have bought nearly 150 old files for making strikers (favouring Wiltshire Australia brand as I am an Australian and the way I make my signature single curl colonial striker retain all the file branding which lends great symmetry to my forging) Most Wiltshire files tend to be around 6mm thick, some larger files can be thicker, some smaller thinner. I will admit I favour a thicker strike plate over a thinner one.

I was thinking, for April Fool's day, or as a funny thing to do sometime, is to announce youre going to have a second channel for right handed blacksmithing, where you upload the same videos, but you mirror it so it looks like you're right handed. All jokes aside, what steel do you favor for this project?

Personally I rarely hold the striker in the handle, so I don't think it's needed. But it looks good so if you want a little extra, a handle is a good option.
