Adding tungsten or lead tape to your paddle has a lot of benefits, but only if you can figure out what the right amount and spot is for you. In this video I show you how to experiment to find the right amount and placement that works best for you.

Awesome vid, and great products! I specially use weight on the handle, and it actually makes a world of a difference. Adding weight and reducing the balance point while adding minimum or no Swing Weight.

I’ve been messing with that lately with the recent paddle releases like the Gryp and the Gamma paddles that have exchangeable weights in the handle. It does change up the balance amd even adds a little power but doesn’t change anything else. It’s a good way to change up the paddle to find your fit in terms of balance point.

@@michaelsangwhat lead is toxic and shouldn’t be handled without gloves. Tungsten is safer. You can rip tungsten, don’t need gloves or scissors. The package of his tungsten tape has measuring marks so you can get an exact weight.

I run a CRBN 1X and I’m one of the few who adds weight to the top corners. I like a head heavy paddle and I feel it helps on follow through especially with flicks

Nice, that would do the trick. Not many people prefer that set up but there's nothing wrong with that if you like it. That's why you have to experiment!

Great information. Is the overgrip used OVER the existing grip wrapping? What are the advantages of that? Thank you!

Yes, exactly, you wrap it over your original grip and replace it every 1-2 weeks depending on how often you play. The advantages is that you get a fresh, tacky grip all the time. If you don't use one then the stock grip loses it's tack and gets slick overtime. Question with regards to adding tungsten. I’m currently playing the DBD 6 zero. I’m putting 4grams at the 3 o’clock and 4grams at 9 o’clock to increase twist and open up the sweet spot. Is there a max number of grams added no longer increases twist or helps to open up the sweet spot? Meaning would 8 grams be no added benefit than 6 grams ?

Great Video. I am using the Mach 2 Forza myself and am finding its low swing weight causing me to not have as much wrist lag and is just slightly messing up my timing on drives. Do you think weighted tape could help with this and if so, what position would be best? Also does weighted tape effect the "pop" of a paddle? Thanks.

Yes, adding some weight can make all the difference there. That's the paddle I'm using right now too, big fan. If you're using my tungsten tape then put 3-4 inches about half in up from the bottom corner and see how that feels.

Does the same lead tape location and effect principles apply towards a paddle that's oval or circle shaped like say the Joola Radius?

I'm currently playing with a DBD 6 zero. I'm experiencing forearm pain/tennis elbow ever since I've switched to this paddle. I was playing with an older Hyperion version and didn't experience pain untilI I switched to DBD. The DBD is a better performing paddle IMO, though. I'm a rec player. What would you recommend where I should put the tape? I've never used tape before. Also I tried the over grip and it made the paddle too heavy for me. Thank you!

Trying adding a 2-3 grams on each side just above the bottom corners and see how that feels.

I have a Engage Pursuit Pro EX paddle. It seem to hit flat if I hit it near edges. I would like to enlarge the sweet spot. Where would you recommend to do that and how much weight. It weighs 7.7 ozs. I like it lite weighted. Thanks

Put three grams on each side starting just above the top bottom corners. That will improve the sweet spot without it getting too heavy on you.

What also works really well for adjusting where you want the tungsten tape is some thinner clear hockey tape. Because its clear it really helps you be precise where you want it but because its hockey tape its more abrasion resistant than electrical tape and also just stickier for moving it from spot to spot. That being said it looks ugly as sin so you wouldnt to do that indefinitely I just find it helps me be more efficient with my time.

For the DBD Infiniti paddle I'm having trouble with off-hits ... I was used to the original Double Black Diamond. How high should I put the tape.?

Yes, I experienced the same thing when I reviewed that one. I ended up putting 2 grams on each side about an inch above the bottom two corners and liked that set up the most. It stabilized it but still retained the natural speed of the paddle.

How much difference in swingweight points, roughly, on middle side versus lower side?

Between 1-2 points. Part of the advantage of adding weight to the lower middle is that you can achieve the same result as adding it to the throat but with less weight. The only reason you might put weight in the throat is if you don't care about improving the twistweight much and just want to change the balance of the paddle and you like the balance of it in the throat over anything else.

That’s a good place to start. Play with it there then try moving it down an inch and half and see how that feels to you and then keep it in the place that felt the best when you played with it.

yes, you'll want to put it on the same spot on both sides of the paddle.

Yes, my go to right now is the Volair Mach 2 Forza 14 with some weight on it. They’ve been out of stock for a bit but will be available again on 2/27 on Volair’s website. Code 10EFFECT works on their site.

That's what I first got was m3 tungsten tape. Like, why tf would I use lead tape on my paddle that I'm inevitably going to touch lol. Not down with self lead poisoning.

Hey Bradon simple question how much would you say is the max weight for a paddle is. Like for example is 9.8 oz too much? much love keep up the good content!

It’s subjective of course but generally speaking I’d say anything over 9 oz is going to have more negative impacts on hand speed than what you gain elsewhere. But there will certainly be people who like it over 9 oz. JW Johnson is weighted close to 10 oz I bet.

JW’s paddle is close to 9 oz stock and based on pictures from his Instagram it looks like he puts at least 8 or so more grams near the top of the paddle which dramatically increases its swing weight. I wouldn’t be surprised if the swingweight was around 145+ which is just insane.

For tungsten tape, if I want 3 grams on each size, would it be ok to overlap the tape strips 3 times (1 inch each similar to lead tape pre-cut strips) or do you recommend instead of overlapping just having 3 inch starting from the recommended position?

I haven’t tried doing three on top of each other but I’ve seen people do two layers without any issues.

I like 2 grams about an inch above the bottom corners. This gives it the extra stability it needs but still retains the fast nature of the paddle.

From my experience, the top increases the swing weight the most for low swing weight paddles. Is there a reason you dont like to add it to the top?

You can add a lot of swingweight by putting the weight on the top half of the sides but this spot also gives you a bump in stability and forgiveness where adding weight only on the top will only give you the swingweight increase without the stability improvement.

Okayyy Braydon - from 2:54 - 3:08 you must be trying to make me question my own sanity when you keep reiterating the falsity that the paddle in front of you has an overgrip on it. You and I both know that is the beautiful trademark baby blue stock grip that the Forza comes with directly from the factory. There is no additional aftermarket grip wrapped OVER the one it came with (AKA the OVERgrip). Spill the beans. What are you after? Our minds or our souls?

Nevermind, upon closer inspection you've just done a bangup job finding an overgrip with a color that roughly approximates the factory grip, but the factory grip has no overlap and more noticeable perforations. I come away from this experience feeling less sane, so I still blame you for that.
