Hi guys,
So as you may already know last year I bought a 1 person tent with the intent of going wild camping. As it happens I didn't get the opportunity (in other words I was lacking gear and courage!) so the tent lever went further than my back garden.
.
This year I was determined to give wild camping a go. Even though I am not great with cold and wet weather, I don't like bugs and spiders and I'm a bit scared of the dark (my mind plays tricks on meee!)
Anyway, here i am, currently lying on my lounge floor testing out my new to me sleeping bag, and inflatable sleeping mat ready to go on my very first wild camp trip in a few days.
.
I am going to try and be as real as I can with this series of vids, showing you how it can be done with limited knowledge and basic borrowed, second hand and cheap budget friendly gear. Should be interesting to say the least!
I welcome all advice, gear recommendations and ideas for where to camp, so please let me hear your thoughts below in the comments!
I hope to do a trial night in the Peak District before eventually heading off on multi day hiking trips to Wales and further...lets see how it goes shall we?
Once again thank you for your support and for watching all my videos so far, I like to bring varied videos to my channel and hope to inspire you guys to do more in the great outdoors.
See you soon!

I'm not sure if you're aware of the Rab outlet shop in Alfreton? It's great for all sorts of Rab gear. The stuff is always reduced by at least 40%. I think you're probably near to me as I only live a few miles from Lambley. The trip up to the Rab store is only about 30 mins or so. All the best. BTW, it's great seeing a woman putting some content out there. We seem to be under-represented on RU-vid with regard to outdoor stuff.

Hi Lulu, I'd recommend: a headtorch- invaluable for hands free lighting- Petzl is a good brand but the less expensive Nebo (Go Outdoors); is very good too, Sundick down tent bootees (Amazon ) are really cozy, I have a Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 tent which is an absolutely brilliant budget tent with dual entrances, I have a Big Agnes Rapid SL sleeping pad which is very comfortable and warm and a definite upgrade on the Trexology mat, I'd also recommend carrying several black bin liners which are great for keeping bags and gear dry in the tent's vestibule. I bought a cheap tarp from Poundland to put on the floor of the vestibule ( saves getting your knees wet when kneeling to put mat, sleeping pad etc inside your tent). A wind shield is also useful protection for your camping stove.

Hi Luli, sooner or later you will reach your chosen camp in some unkind weather, wind driven rain coming at you sideways, so shelter will be your over-riding priority. So either pack your tent on the outside of your pack or if compact enough to ride in your pack, make it the last item you pack, so that you can shield your pack with your body, open the closure , grab the tent, close the pack agn and get that tent unrolled and pegged to the ground at it's windward end. Hopefully you will have rolled your tent so that the back of it can be pegged down before you roll it away from you, pegging down as you go. Then insert poles, guy securely and get your pack and yourself under cover asap. You can now remove your skins and towel off if necessary, put on a puffy or whatever warm layer you have, to keep warm and sort out your sleep mat and quilt/sleeping bag and get in. If your tent has a decent size vestibule you can then set up a morale boosting brew and an energising snack. Cooking under the vestibule is controversial, and of course it would be stupidity of the highest order to do so if the wind is so severe that you are having to brace the tent poles with your hands to prevent disaster, but in ordinarily wet weather Ive found it works for me. Water only needs to be hot for making a drink from T bags or pretend coffee out of a jar, so you dont need to run your stove for very long to heat up a cupful to enjoy while you are warm n dry and listening to the sound of the rain on your fly-sheet. Super videos gel, you have a good eye for land and cloudscapes and your music choices are a good fit too. Keep'em coming, stay safe, kindest regards Arthur R Sakr.

Reduce your tent by pack the inner and outer into a compression bag. Then have your pegs and poles separate that would give you more space in your bag. Trekology pillow are great. And I also agree a water filter system

A good option for a decent and cheap bushcraft knife is a mora . I would add a small fire lighting kit ( lighters , fire steel, windoroof matches , cotton balls rubbed in vaseline etc ) . A first aid kit is also a must . Ducktape is good for short term tent / tarp repairs and it can also be used to help start a fire . I would definitely upgrade to a bigger and better backpack if youre planning on hiking any kind of distance. Best of luck and cant wait to see how you get on 👍

I would put the tent and sleeping things last but not least in the Backpack. Because when you stop and settle somewhere, you have to unpack the entire Backpack first to grab the tent etc. That's why i would put the sleeping stuff at the top.

If you have the right gear, 36liters would be just perfect for a weekend trip. For tent i recommand lanshan 1 or 2 ( best tent available for price/weight/quality, only 1150gram for 2 persontent) and just use sticks you Find in the woods instead of walkingsticks and cut them to size with a knife/saw. And invest in a good down sleepingbag, they take up less space for the same warmth. And ditch the extra bivi i would say
@PascaleBourdages
@PascaleBourdages Год назад
Hi! I don't like darkness, creepy bugs or being alone too much in the woods neither. I found out that a tarp was best for me as it can be cheap and I can use different configurations to be enclosed or not. I invested in a jungle snugpack sleeping bag with an integrated mesh to keep bugs away from me. I use me trekking poles to do my tarp set-up at night. One other thing I like is having with me those two optional confort things: lucci mpowered stringlights and my small kalimba. 1- having an ambiance help the first nights out. 2- playing music helps soothe my mind when I am camping in a unknown place and I tend to get to anxious. Tarp= definitely cheaper, versatile and light to pack. Try to look into it. Water system: I always have a couple of aqua pills for emergency and I bring a water filter + bottle. I would definetely bring a bushcraft knife to cut-split-anything wood and other things. Something to light a fire (flintstriker). Bring electrolytes in your emergency kit. Should things do south, you have something to help you. Or bouillon sachet (beef or chicken) Enjoy your time outdoor!

Just keep it simple. After a few camps you’ll work out what you really need and what you don’t. We have a tendency to pack like we’re spending a month in Alaska when the reality is that you hardly need anything if you’re spending one night in the woods in England. I go out with a 35 litre Belgian army rucksack that I bought from a surplus store. I strap my tent underneath and the pack holds everything else that I need for a night in the woods.

@@AdventuresWithLilu I don’t go out much when it’s wet like this 😂. If I do, I take a tarp with me to use as an additional groundsheet. I roll it around my tent so it’s hardly noticeable that I’m carrying additional gear. It’s a thicker tarp though, a cheap one from a hardware store. It seems to protect against the wet a bit better than the ultra thin camping tarps. Keeps the tent groundsheet clean too.
@roygardner8873
@roygardner8873 Год назад
Hey Lilu, you need a minimum of a 65l pack really. Might be worth changing that tent for something a bit better. If you want to test it all out then just drive to a camp site but only use what’s in your pack.

I have blackthorn and they're okay - I did spray mine with waterproofing before taking it out out. I am a very hot sleeper so don't need the type of sleep system others use. Yes use the pump - our breath will make the inside of inflatables mouldy. But my other bits help like, a liner from MW - which keeps the sleeping bag clean and adds an extra layer, plus I put that in a bivvy bag to keep any creepy crawlies out my cocoon. I don't see or hear a thing as I sleep very deeply. Apparently I snore like a bear, which helps keep other creatures away. Have you tried Bikecamping? The bike takes all the weight and makes it easier to cover more area too. I'm doing some videos on that kind of set-up at the moment. The drone and electronics issue is being dealt with now. I'm now adding fork panniers to other panniers and trailer. A small tarp will help and to keep it cheap - two very large thick builders rubble bags - 1 insulating foil sheet to put inside and tape it all up and place under tent, weighs nowt, but will stop damp coming up into the tent and stops most things puncturing the tent base too, rolls up thin. A billy type pot will help keep the weight down if you get the titanium version and a titanium cup fits right inside. They're not that expensive if you look around. I'm doing my own MRE style meals now and hope to get a dehydrator to cut their weight soon. I can then stock them all and just take which I want with me knowing exactly what's in them.

The good thing about Amazon/eBay etc is that you can very easily find the original product alongside the name-tagged version. I’ve got plenty of items that are the ‘Ali-express’ original product pre-branding wholesale products that the big companies use 😂 My first kit was exclusively DD hammocks. Granted, it’s all amazing gear and I got it all in a discounted bundle. But if I’d watched a vid like this first I’d never have bought from the big brands. Don’t get me wrong, there are some shoddy products made to look like quality gear, but that’s where prime membership comes in, very easy to return 😂
