These are more for popular styles of music like country, rock, pop, etc. For jazz rhythm guitar it's a totally different animal because generally for that you're using barre chords and don't let the strings ring out like when playing these. The most common strumming in jazz guitar (that I ever played) is mainly just downstrokes on quarter notes on each beat and then muting strings in between to make it jump. Also, you have to make sure the song is in 3/4 time with these patterns.
