pretty sure it's most of time just the fingers you're pressing. A couple have an open string as part of the cord, but usually optional. Take what I say with a grain or ton of salt, I started two days ago.
i picked up an electric guitar for the first time 5 days ago bc i wanted to learn a whole bunch of arctic monkeys songs but when watching the tutorial it said smthn abt power ons and....i was lost ngl lol. so i rlly apreciate this video! thank you so much this helped me a lot! keep up the great videos!
The default 70% -> 100% in 10% steps is ridiculous, surely hardly anyone uses that. You should be able to save custom loop settings to one-click buttons.
For me remembering to breathe is important and identifying tension, but the thing I found that changed guitar for me is finding a way to support every muscle in my arm and shoulder and even my head, so that I'm not using those muscles to hold myself up. It takes a little experimenting. Start with your forearm on the guitar so that the wrist is the only thing that's dangling, every other part of your arm and shoulder is supported by the guitar. That is how you play totally relaxed. For the most part you should feel like you don't have to use those muscles at all. Just the wrist. If you have to use muscle and energy to hold your arm up, your too tense, it's that simple. It's a little easier on an acoustic as there is more surface area to rest on but you can find it on electric too for sure.
Those have to be added manually to a melody line and most guitar players never take the time to do that because they're only worried about the guitar part.
That's how I got down playing every rose has its thorns I played it several times a day for several months till I got it down working on highway to hell now
This is why I love this channel. There are so many videos on how to, techniques, etc out there. But these little "secrets" have improved me the most. It's always the little things.
I love that we can train ourselves on how to learn better too! Really shows that we can do anything if we’re passionate enough and willing to push through difficult challenges!
Sometimes we gotta “embrace the suck” when it comes to the boring repetitive stuff, but I’ve found that there is such an excitement and proud feeling I get when I repeat things and perfect them! Sometimes I’ll even practice the boring repetitive while I’m watching tv or so. Cause at least that way it’s still practice! Playing guitar is a skill that needs to be cultivated and grown over time for certain! But I love so much that I have this skill, it’s added more to my life than I can begin to explain!
Very helpful. Thanks. Do you know if there is a way to bookmark a section of a song? For example when i'm learning a solo I'll have to manually reselect the part when I open the file. Is there a way to just save that bit for easy reselection?
I don’t know if there is a way to do that. But you could create a new file for that section and copy/paste the section you want to work on. Just make sure you get the right tempo and time signature
@@SimpleGuitarDotCom Hey, thanks a lot for replying. I've tried vopy and pasting before but it usually messed up some stuff. I'll try figuting out how to do it with your suggestions! Cheers

I just wanna worship Jesus thru music with guitar like Jason bellard.....learning how to play guitar is difficult and painful, my wrist starts locking up. I'm trying bee sting therapy but quickly loose interest due to fore arm cramps. I'm gonna continue to listen to your teachings till I figure it out. Thank you and "seek the Lord while He may be found ".
I might be weird, but I actually like doing the monotonous stuff. I can do it over and over for at the very least 20min. I strive for perfection and have the motivation to get faster little by little. I do not know if this is a problem, but I do find my mind wandering a little bit and when I come back to what I am doing, I am right on time with the metronome and playing with very few mistakes. I wonder if that means I should move on to something more challenging?
I think it’s great that you strive for perfection! That makes everything you do all that much better! We build up on the basics, build up on the boring, build into something incredible and amazing! Start challenging yourself more little by little!
Hello does anyone know how to get callus on the proximal (base) bone of the index finger? I need callus on it (i think) because i have a damn hard time with barre chords, especially the higher frets on my Eastman (western) guitar. It is a pain in the ass to not being able to play the higher barre chords.
I am confused figuring out one thing. In most of the videos about excercising I've watched, people said that you should keep fingers against the fretboard all the time while practicing spiderwalk. I tried that way and found it really hard going down the string from 6 to 1 because fingers which were kept against fretboard interfered. Great video though. Thank you
This video is gold! I am a beginner struggling with muddy-sounding chords! This is going to help me so much. Also, thank you, Brad, for teaching us different ways of playing F and B, to make them more accessible! Thank you, Brad! 🎸
