C. Z. You are welcome and thank you for your comment. You know I’m toying with the idea of running a freeby Zoom class in the not too distant future. Just putting the feelers out st this stage, but I wondered if you’d be interested in attending? Regards Steve Rivers

These are great videos. I've already learned loads. Question: the djembe I have looks exactly the same as yours but has a much bassier tone; I find it hard to reproduce that slightly metallic sound that you get when you play tone. Do you have any idea why that might be?

Hi Paul thanks for great feedback and I'm really pleased you are getting lots out of the videos. Since these videos were posted in 2015 I have created some new teaching videos with lots more help on technique and coordination - do check them out. As regards your query it is hard to advise without seeing the djembe. It might be a simple process of tuning the djembe or it might be too old and need a complete reskin. Djembes really range in quality - from the bottom of the pile you get tourist djembes made in the far east which can be really bad (often not worth reskinning) and at the top the djembes from West Africa such Mali, Guinea Conakry and Burkina Faso - these are usually the best. My suggestion would be to look up some videos on djembe tuning. (This is something on my list to post but haven't got round to it yet.) I hope this helps and let me know if you have any more queries. Best wishes Steve Rivers
