Thanks for making these videos, Jim. My uncle was a clearance diver in the Royal Canadian Navy in the 60’s. When I was young, I’d watch him build ships like this after he retired. I’ve always wanted to give my hand a try.
Looks like the kit I got from China, however, mine came with brass canons, 2 brass anchors and brass chains for the anchors. I will be watching the rest of the build series for this ship. It’s been about 40 years since I built a wooden ship, so I’m a little rusty. I’m at the point of rigging the ship, so I’ll be interested in watching that video. Mine also came with the sail guide to cut the sails. Happy days and model on!
Nice!! ...Since the beginning of the pandemic I have been building the ships "The Black Pearl" and "Queen Anne's Revenge" based on plans, scenes and images, although it has been difficult because I cannot dedicate myself full time due to economic circumstances. This art is majestic and I would like to be able to dedicate my full time to it.
I started with the Endeavour longboat. it got me used to bending and handling the strip wood. After 4 builds the biggest problem for me is......Where do you put them?
Hi Jim! Thanks so much for this wonderful series! For beginners like me! I’ve subscribed to your channel. I’m starting my first build soon and have a couple of questions. (1) Can you tell me where you got the hull support block you’re using? The only ones I e seen have c,amps only. I like the large block so I can move it around. (2) What are the Lego pieces for? Thanks again!!
The hulk clamp I made myself, just two pieces of wood screwed together. I use Lego blocks because they a very square and you can vary the height also PVA glue doesn't stick to them.
What sort of challenges does a modeler face in Thailand? Can you get ships in the shops? What about plastic and balsa planes? Sheet balsa? Supplies? KOB KHUN KHRAP
Hi Jim. Looks like it will be a nice fun build my friend :-) Where in Thailand are you? One of my favourite ports in the Navy was Pattaya. Just for the buzz of the place at night. Take care mate.
I tried to use the same type of clip, but gave up because the orange grips constantly fell out. Any suggestions on better types of clips would be great. I build a lot of Occre models, which come with pretty thorough instructions.
