10 mackerel should be enough for anyone to take home and share , I’ve seen people take over 100 and brag about it , catch and release after you caught your intended quota seems a waste of time and potentially harmful to the fish , it’s not like fishing for an elusive trout or salmon as mackerel will go for anything even just a silver hook .

Enjoyed watching this video, and what a good video it is, takes you all the way from getting the equipment to preparing and enjoying a great mackerel breakfast. - You've made me feel hungry now! That's a nice looking beach you're fishing from there. Is it in the same town as Tony's Tackle Shop? First time watching one of your videos, but have subscribed and going to watch more. Well made and you present very well. Regards David.

Thank you for subscribing, and thank you for your very kind comments. The beach i was fishing from was Seaford, but when the Mackeral are in you can catch them from Eastbourne, ( near Tonys shop) too. ✌️ & ❤️

I am located on The Southern Outerbanks of North Carolina USA The Mackeral we catch and eat are much larger Spanish (spotted) or King Mackeral (stripped) Spanish are harvested over 12” normally in 3-6 pound size. Our king Mackeral are massive over 15” 6lb and over some 40-60 pounds. So I use much larger hardware n baits but often times a spoon gold in color seems to work best. But I was taught to fish with hand lines trolling behind lil skiffs. Quite efficient way to harvest them. Yesterday I caught several really nice size ones. Nice lil video I enjoyed it quite much. Thank You! I will start posting some vids on my channel soon crabbing fishing digging clams! Have a blessed day Sir!!

God beginners guide,Chris. As you know, there's usually some decent bass behind the mackerel shoals, and you can often bag one if you use a Dextor wedge instead of a lead. It would only put a couple of quid on the set up, and doubles your chances.

i still have no idea what a shock leader is or how it works. couldnt really follow what he was actually doing.
@SEAFISHINGwithCJ
@SEAFISHINGwithCJ Месяц назад
Shock leader is a length of line tied to your main line that is stronger than your main line. It is about 3 of 4 wraps around the reel. Then the length of the rod and connects to your feathers. It is generally 10lbs B's for each ounce you are casting. It stops the line snapping as you cast, for safety reasons, stops you sending a weight off sideways down the beach.
@SEAFISHINGwithCJ
@SEAFISHINGwithCJ Месяц назад
It's a safety feature, to prevent you cracking off during the cast and sending a lead sideways down the beach.
@user-kt1ks9yp1j
@user-kt1ks9yp1j 24 дня назад
Rig line (main body length) should be rated to 50-60lbs breaking strain, this should be continued with a strong initial main line to cope with the power of casting out reducing risk of line break in the cast. Allow for the drop to rig along the length of rod and a few turns around the reel . 15ft or a bit more (depends on drop lenght) this should keep you safe for the cast happy fishing dude

I went fishing once down at my local harbor on my own, got there about 16:30. Place was packed, about 30 people fishing/watching in about 40 foot of space. Anyway, I quickly clipped my feathers on and cast out in the little space I had. My feathers hit the water and I started reeling in, and then I felt a tug. Straight away assumed I had caught someone else's line. But the tugging kept coming, and no one else was reacting, so I realised, it was in fact a bite! I got it near the surface, and eventually I could see 6 white flashes darting below the surface. I reeled them up the wall and got them off the hooks. I kept a couple, and threw the other 4 back. I then looked around to see everyone staring at me... I quickly cast again, and to my surprise, it lands in the identical place. As soon as it hits the water, they were tugging on it again! I must have hit them, or dropped it right in front of them! I reeled it in, and another 6 mackerel! I was throwing them all back at this point, as I had no use for them, and I don't want them to die unnecessarily. Some people asked for some, but I only gave away a couple. I am not exaggerating when I say this process continued for another 6/7 casts. Normally I would go fishing for 3/4 hours, but because I caught so many fish, so quickly, I was satisfied after an hour, and they had stopped biting by then anyway. In that one hour I caught approximately 45 mackerel, and no one else there caught any fish in that time. The only things I can contribute to my success were, well luck, and perhaps, the specific feathers I was using.

Sorry had to stop this before 10 minutes as it was telling me and showing me absolutely nothing. Great if you know fishing jargon and numbers but I don’t. Also trying to show me how to do knots with a transparent fishing line? Come on get real. Great effort guys and no doubt it will be if benefit to those inexperienced folk who need a little more knowledge but for absolute beginners like me, it’s not helping at all. What I need is a true fishing guide for beginners:

Yeah, sadly, it's not a beginner's guide as it uses unexplained, undefined jargon and things like the knotting process is shot from far away (with poor contrast) whilst lots of definite articles are used to describe the process: 'this' is 20lb, 'that' is 10lb and the newbie is left guessing what 'this' and 'that' are. Shame after the kindly effort of filming, editing and posting. I've given up watching as it's use. I liked your intro, warning against getting greedy/frenzied though.

@UsualYaddaYadda
@UsualYaddaYadda 24 дня назад
7:20 Well I'm not sure what video you watched, but off at the other side of the tackle shop is a blurry knotting process in this 'beginners video' with the demonstrator using jargon and you, acting on behalf of the viewing beginner, going "yeah, yeah, yeah... I know all that". I suggest instead that YOU rewatch this from the perspective of a beginner and realise that you've misnamed the video. Could've been good. Isn't what it claims.
