Some quick little tips to help people out there when it comes to charging Lipo batteries. I know there can be a lot of numbers and things to understand when it comes to batteries and it is important to get them right because Lipos can be dangerous in used incorrectly. Happy flying everyone. If you found this helpful leave a like so can help other people too.
Like what I do. Support and help me grow the channel at / uavfutures every little bit helps and will allow me to make more videos like this more often. Big thanks to the people who already do support the channel. You guys rock. Happy flying
EDIT: I accidentally said miliamp hours instead of amp hours at points in the vid, But im sure you get the idea : )
TIP: If you're using this charger (Turnigy Accucel-6 80W) to charge fat shark batteries you'll need to upgrade the firmware of this charger! You can't balance charge fat shark's batteries so you'll end up with an error by default. Here's the link to the firmware. hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-a... Download "ACC6 80W firware v1.13 patched to fix balance connect error" and follow the instructions inside!

Excellent video and g'day from Canada :) Do you know or have you ever tried using the balance board to place multiple batteries in storage mode? Often when I come back from the field and I have multiple batteries, it would be so much easier if I could put 6 batteries at a time in storage mode, just wondering if the balance board would work safely and properly for that as well. Thanks again for your passion and dedication and taking all the time and effort to do these great videos. Happy flying! Cheers, Scott

great video Stu! I just throw my batterys onto the parallel board with no balance leads to balance Eachothers voltage for 10 mins then I connect the balance leads for another 10 mins... that way when I go to charge them again they are all the same cell voltage... I typically do that at the end of a day of flying (useing the same methods that you use for charging e.g. same cell count and mah ratings)

Great video Stu. I now have enough batteries, that I need to a parallel charge board. I love your channel and I always get a lot out of it. Thanks. I do have a couple questions. First, where did you get those XT60 connector covers? Also, I saw a video of yours, where you showed a really cool USB charger deal that you connected to one of your LiPo's for charging in the field. Do you recall, what I'm referring to and if so, which video was that? I would love to pick one up. Thanks again for all the content. Your channel is my favorite.
@TheRCAddict

Just a little mistake, you said .1V difference per battery, but it is per cell, do on a 3s they can be .3v apart, and on 4s .4V :) having them closer is better of course, if mine are a little closer to the .4v apart I just leave them in for a few minutes before I start the charge so they balance. Also in the beginning you kept saying 1.4 milliamphours, haha. Quite a small battery ;) 1.4 amp hours. Just being nit picky, it was a great video and will help lots of people :D

I am not sure the voltage difference works according with the number of cells, whatever the number of cells of the LIPOs, i have always charge my batteries with 0.2V difference max per cell. Another important point for me is you have a LIPO with one bad cell, don't charge it in parallele with other LIPOs, there is a risk that this LIPO could damage all the other LIPOs.
@TheRCAddict
@TheRCAddict 8 лет назад
ABMNS PRODUCTION It is by number of cells...but everyone has their own "standards" but you should never exceed .4 total for a 4S. Some people only charge at 1C, but I do 2-3 if I need them quick, so it really just depends on how much you know and trust about your gear :)
@R2GO
@R2GO 7 лет назад
sorry still don't get this. could be because I'm not English and it will not get into my fat head. lol. Please bare with me. I'm talking 4S here. So is it .4V difference per BATTERY or per Cell? let's say i have Lipo's perfectly balanced. one is 14V and the other 14.4. that's a .4 difference per LIPO. but only .1 per CELL. Or is it .4 difference per Cell of ALL the lipo's going to be charged in parallel. So let's say between 3.5V and 3.9V between cells. That's a .4 difference. Because then the voltages PER LIPO can get between 14V and 15.6. If they came down perfectly balanced and the 14V Lipo is 4x3.5V and the 15.6V battery is 4x3.9V. you get what I'm saying? So can somebody please clarify this before I burn down the house with me, my wife my son, and the cat in it :D

Awesome tips m8 but allow me to comment on something which might get you into a revised already awesomeness. You can equalize the batteries voltages by just letting them rest on the parallel board (main leads and balancing connectors). so if you have one 3s bat with 3.70/3.71/3.70 and a second one with 3.4/3.41/3.42 within a few minutes resting them on a parallel board, both batteries will have similar cell voltages and ready to be charged in parallel. (ps: of course I am talking for same batteries, cells, capacity and discharge rate) Thanks again for your video. keep em coming. I really enjoy your channel!

Great video. I never charged my LIPO at 1C lol Always 1/2C. For me one crucial point when charging in parallel is to make sure that all these LIPOs have healthy cell. One LIPO with a bad cell can damage all the other LIPOs. Thanks a ton for sharing Stuart and have a great week
@UAVfutures
@UAVfutures 8 лет назад
thanks. Great point about the cell
@CrobleFPV
@CrobleFPV 8 лет назад
1/2c is a bit under kill. 1c should be fine if you want to keep you batts in good shape but I don't really think it would hurt the cell to charge them at 1 1/2c but it might reduce the Mah you can put back into the cell. I charge 3 4s SMC 37a 1300Mah packs at 5.3 amps but I should charge them at 3.9amps because that's 1c. If your in a rush to fly charging them normally or at 1 1/2 shouldn't really hurt them at all. If you have a slightly puffed/damages pack with a bad cell then definitely charge it separate.
@blackmennewstyle
@blackmennewstyle 8 лет назад
Crøblë FPV There is nothing under kill, LIPO had been designed for delivering power not storing it :) The less C rate you use when charging your batteries, the more longer and the more better they will perform because you don't hurt the chemistry inside them like you do when charging at higher C. Of course you have also to be careful and do not push them beyond their limits while discharging and you should also respect the basic rule of putting them on storage state when not using even for a short period.
@egorkarus
@egorkarus 5 лет назад
Hi folks,thanks for great video. just my 50 cents of info to improve this guide. There is few bad scenario still exist when you connect all this cells in parallel,each and every pack & cells have different internal resistance so the consequences might be harmful because of next reasons: 1- not equal current flowing in each cell (you better not charge whole pack at its 1c,for example 5 packs 1000mah each not so safe to charge at 5 amps),safest side is to charge at C rating of 1 pack which is far over protection but u decide. 2- if you have one bad cell the balancing process might take way more time and potentially damage all of your packs at same cell number. so be careful and better of all write on each battery pack it's cell internal resistance and try to match packs as much as possible. BR all.

Hi can I ask, I have a new skyrc e680 balance charger. I have 1s lipo battery's. My parallel board is similar to the one in the video apart from mine has 6x 1s -3s ports and also has 6x xt30 connections. When trying to storage charge more than one 1s battery it does not recognise anything other than one battery. I select the appropriate amps for the amount of batteries and their mah in total and select 1s as the voltage. but soon as i try to start it says connection break. All batteries are fine and so is the board. it was same with a previous board (6x1s) i purchased that was not a parallel board ( i thought it was) and it has 2 banana connectors much like the board i have now can charge one battery but not more than one other wise it says connection break. is it me or is it the charger? But, in video if balance charging 2s + batteries you can connect them to the xt30 connectors and get power and the board i presume the other ports are balance ports. But, with a 1s battery how does that work? there is only one lead and i guess it powers directly via that lead but charger does not recognise them past one battery, what am i doing wrong?
