Hi, sorry I am late to comment :) I love your videos btw! I have a question about olive oil. As we have to keep MSDS in PIF in the UK, does it mean I can't buy olive oil from a local supermarket or Amazon as they don't supply MSDS? I would greatly appreciate your advice :) thank you x

Really appreciate for taking time to post the vidoes and making series of soap making .very helpful for beginners . One doubt what's the difference between refined and unrefined butters except cost.. how the difference matters in soap making ..
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 года назад
Hello and thank you for your comment, Refined butters and oils have gone through a process to remove something from them (such as colour or scent) and they can sometimes extracted using a chemical process. Unrefined oils have not gone through a process to remove colour or scent and retain all the beneficial nutrients of the oil. Unrefined oils will often have a strong, natural scent (coconut oil smells very strongly of coconut and cocoa butter smells like chocolate) whereas refined oils will not have this strong scent. For soap making we use refined oils as since soap is a wash off product it is not on the skin long enough for the extra beneficial nutrients found in unrefined oils to be absorbed by the skin. However, when we make leave on products such as body butters we use unrefined oils so that they contain the extra skin loving nutrients.

Lovely vid Should these soaps be solely used for hand washing? Is there a reason why it cannot be used for the body or intimate areas?
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 2 года назад
These soaps are good for hands and body. I wouldn't recommend using on intimate areas as soap is not designed for intimate areas and could cause irritation due to its high PH level.

Wonderful and informative. Can you tell me your experience and thoughts on Canola Oil? I see that it is so inexpensive compared to Olive Oil and I've seen that it can be used as a great substitute for Olive Oil. What do you think?
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 года назад
Thank you :-) Honestly I am afraid that I have no experience with Canola oil as I have never used it. I believe it is called Rapeseed oil here in the UK but that is about all I know I am afraid! There are so many oil choices available to use and this just happens to be one that we have never personally tried. I am sure it would be worth experimenting with though as I do know of other soapers who use it in there mixes and if it saves some money then it can't be a bad thing!

can you use Regular Almond Oil instead of Sweet Almond Oil?
@relaxedandlovingit

Hi, so I went onto a few UK websites to buy the ingredients needed to make soap with you. Around 5:30 you mention to get the 76°F coconut oil 🥥 However, none of the websites I visited mentioned burning point. In that instance, do I just buy any coconut oil which doesn't state fractionated or is there a specific store I should be buying the oil from?

I appreciate all your effort to make this informative videos 💚🙏💜 I have a technical question about coconut oil. Is 💡SOLID💡Coconut Oil ok for soaps? Is it the same as refined?
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 года назад
Yes, it is the solid coconut oil that you will require. It is normally advertised as "coconut oil 76 degree" and can be either refined or unrefined (unrefined will smell coconutty whereas refined will not). You do not want "fractionated" coconut oil which is liquid at room temperature as this behaves in a completely different way during soap making.
