I use to overbuild in Tropico 5 and it was easier for me to get the happiness up. It wasnt a good idea for this game. Always start small and build your way up.
I just picked up this game on sale and was looking for a good tutorial. I really like the way you present stuff and have subscribed. Thanks for making this quality content.
Tried building it on console, works just about right. The only thing is that we don't have on land water treatment, so I set up a sewege pump on the edge of the river. (Make sure to check water flow's direction to not pollute your whole river with garbage!)
If you're wondering about the water treatment plant, the one I'm using is the inland water treatment plant from the Sunset Harbor DLC. If you don't have that, you can see this video for other options: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bmfYZcXiATE.html
I bought a few games from Steam's recent management sale, but I forgot that I only have so many "spoons" available these days so I became overwhelmed quickly. This helped MASSIVELY. Thank you!
Makes sense! I once started a build where the city was so far away from the highway because I wanted it to be close to the waterfront. Needless to say the upkeep of the long roads heading into the city kept giving me cashflow issues in the start, and I used paved roads lol. I didn’t realize the water tower and on land water filtration were options from the start. That’ll save me a lot of time and money on my next build. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you! I played this game for the first time today and I needed help. It looks like a game that I will like. I’ll use this guide next time I play it.
I'm playing this on ps5 - the ps4 version of the game. I followed your video. The first time, I failed, but the second try saw my first milestone. My little town is running perfectly, and I'm just about to expand. Thank you so much for a wonderful series. I'm checking out more of your videos. 😊
Awesome freaking video and an amazing start to the city. I very much appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experience with us. I can't wait to see what happens next. 🤟😲👍
For easier road upgrade later, you might want to leave one cell more space for the first block around your future arterial/collector roads, so you can expand them without losing zoning space. (Or you just unzone near them later, and have some park space.)
Yo, I have a question. So I'm basically new to the game and when you said I need inland water treatment, I went to the water section and I don't have the inland water treatment option. Anything else I can use instead of the inland water treatment?
The inland water treatment plant is part of the sunset harbor DLC. Without that you will need to just dump your sewage into a river or ocean. Be careful not to let the sewage enter your water supply. Alternatively if you are playing via steam there are some water treatment options available on the steam workshop.
@@Czardus oi "how to start in a fail-proof manner that all new players and beginners can replicate for success" Not true, you're showing a version of the game with DLC which not all new players have. No idea what I'm doing with these pipes 😂
@@delwayy8613 I actually had to quit that game. I didn't realize sewage was building up, and I didn't realise the way you needed to run pipes AND power to them both. This video sucks.
Thanks, when I started i actually got a terrible headache. Even though I've played building simulator games like this before but I've never had one this complicated. I got a neighborhood now
Thank you so much! I just started playing this because I was bored of repetitive action and adventure games. I tried it for the first time yesterday, the game's great but I keep getting into bankruptcy because I kept on overbuilding, and I don't know what to do.
I"ve tried playing Cities Skylines as it is an alternative to SimCity. I've fumbled around with a few games and never got to a stable place. This video has been a big help with interesting insights. Thank you.
@@Czardus I'm still putting things together with this game. There is a lot of stuff about I haven't gotten close to understanding. And so much DLC! It can be a bit overwhelming.
Thanks! Finally figured out why in some cities my water is polluted and sometimes not.. ..also I realized I dont have to spend a fortune on major highways and round-a-bouts right off the bat
honestly i read the comments and thought “how good could this tutorial really be” lmao everyone was hyping it up ! i’m just glad it lived up to the hype. i never usually subscribe but damn you’ve earned it. hope you have a blessed day dear sir ❤️
I definitely needed this. I played the hell out of Simcity back in the 1990s. I'd play at work when no one needed any tech support. Oh man, those were the days. We didn't even have the internet. We did have a 9600 baud modem though so I was all over the local BBS scheme. I probably downloaded Simcity from one of the warez sites. I did eventually buy the box copy because I wanted a sequel someday.

Yes, the inland water treatment plant is part of the Sunset Harbor DLC. If you don't have that, you have to dump your sewage into the water. Just make sure you watch the water flow and don't let it get back to your water intake (if you're using a water pumping station instead of a water tower). Yah i think after 4k population a lot of people have an issue about Shortage of coal and raw materials on Power-plant and industry thn population starts to decrease if they buy new land and connect highway with main land thn it can be solved, i did it and now i have over 10k population, U can make a vdo about what to do if the population start decreasing and coal shortage raw material, what roadside or land to buy and use more .. now i am facing an issue of traffic jam and need more customer . Make a vdo for that too if u have time 🔥
You are my go to cities skylines guy on you tube. Thanks again. I'm from Manchester England and would love to see you build an English style town. Happy new year.
hey thank you so much for this. I had to try it four times before I started getting income. but i did as you mentioned and not build a clinic and people started getting really sick really fast. and this was before i even started making positive income.
I'm jumping back into CS 1 and noticing I don't have the water treatment plant available from the start. This opening city still works though. Thank you!
Ah it's from a DLC. Would be helpful to know but the vid is still a good push in the right direction. I was spreading out my city too early and spending too much on roads while also installing services too soon.

is this considering the DLC's as well? I was going to pick up the full collection as I found a really good deal on it. been waiting to play this for a long time now.
omg i don't know why I didn't think of connecting the entrance and exit LOL! I am a beginner and, despite using paved roads and starting with wind turbines for energy, I somehow managed to get a really cramped and extremely prosperous city ( 1.5 million cash in bank and $13,000/ week income even with the funding for some services at 150%), but the entrance/exit are separate and look so weird..... traffic is a huge issue as well because those darn trucks! and i have shops sprinkles around residential areas. I did make separate entrances and exits closer to the industry but the idiots don't ever use them. Now I have to try these tips on a new save.
thx for the help i just started playing this game and I was struggling to figure out why my people are getting so sick it was the noise pollution and not zoning the different areas correctly so thx for the tips.
i dont know if my version is outdated or what not but i do not posses as much items that he can use in the water sections i don't have inland water treatment and what not only pumps waste and water towers until i get water treatment which i believe has to be waterside to work maybe i dont have as many expansions

I'm a little confused on how the electric works. You only have the power poles going to the one residential section. Is it implied to run anywhere you have roads?
Unfortunately I didn't continue on this map specifically (because I didn't originally plan a part 2 and didn't save the city) but I did create a part 2 to the video using the same basic setup.

Very helpful! Total newbie here. I notice at least one major difference in my version compared to yours when trying to follow your steps. For whatever reason I don't have access to the Inland Water Treatment Plant or any water treatment plant of any kind. When I look at my water utility options I only have water pipes, water pumping stations, water towers and water drains available. There's an outline of a generic water treatment plant that it says I'll have access to when my city has 16K people. I only have the basic version of the game running on a M1 MacBook. Tons and tons of other questions, but why do you think I don't have access to any water treatment plants? Thank you!

Another question on a similar issue (if you have a moment) relates to unlocking features while staying with the basic (vanilla) version of the game. Many become available as your city grows of course. I wonder if there are other ways of unlocking features in the basic game without using mods. Do you recall how the ability to create custom parks (i.e. nature reserves) is unlocked? The only type of district I currently have available is the generic type. I notice in your video Starting the Nature Reserve - Cities Skylines Vanilla you have available what looks like a parks districting tool as well as the features like the Nature Reserve Main Gate etc. Besides reaching population milestones, are there other ways some of these features are unlocked? Thanks again!
