When it comes to creating and publishing KDP no, low and medium content books on Amazon, one of the most important steps is KDP keyword research. That is, finding those search terms that customers type into the search bar on amazon and assessing them for levels of difficulty or competition. By doing that we can create books that target those search terms, or keywords, and so give our books a better chance of appearing high up on the search results when a customer searches for that particular product and, therefore, making a sale. In this video I take you step by step through my keyword research process, which is ideal for beginners, as it can be done free of charge without any paid tools. I show you how to build a spreadsheet of keywords and assess each one for competitiveness.

Just a tip that works for me. Yes, I do all my research in my normal Chrome browser but, when I'm starting research, I clear cookies and site data so it's as close to unbiased as I can get and all my extensions still work without losing any functionality. I hope this helps someone.

Thank you for your very educational videos! I am wondering if you would recommend doing the keyword research in the Amazon location that will be your primary location? e.g. Amazon US or AUS, for example. The keyword results are quite different when looking between the two Amazon country locations with the US appearing low compared to AUS. Thank you for your thoughts on this.

Most sales are going to come from Amazon.com so that is where I would do the keyword research unless the book is targetted to a specific country, in which case do it on the relevant Amazon site.

Hi, thanks for the great video. I just have a question to do with the 7 boxes. For example, if in my first box I have the word notebook and in the seventh I have for dad, would my notebook appear in the search notebook for dad? Do all the boxes link together in some way? Thanks

Hi, Paul. I greet you from Santiago de Chile and I love your videos. I've been following you for over a month and I have a question about a video you posted about Kindle Scribe. In this video you teach how to create a planner with hyperlinks, but I would like you to explain the following: if I have canva pro and the maximum number of pages is only 200, how do I link more pages if I have to reach 365 days a year, but the maximum number of pages is less?. I would love if you could answer my question please.

I use smallpdf to merge pdf files together. But you may find the links don’t work. So you could merge to files together and edit the links in a pdf editor.

Hi, Paul! Excellent video as always. For evergreen products (or basically any products that are not flash in the pan trends where search volume can be excessive one week and nonexistent the next), how often do you feel it is important to revisit an in-depth keyword analysis? For instance, if you did this full deep dive for the term "word search", how often would it be useful to redo the deep dive to see if things have significantly changed, or do you ever go back to redo a deep dive search for an evergreen product. It would be great for you to mention that info in an upcoming video. Thank you once again for the amazing videos!

I would only go back if I was considering publishing another book with those keywords. Once a book is published it is essentially done.

If you use the plugin keywords everywhere it will give you a little blue volume graph next to the Amazon search terms on the dropdown, Just hover on the blue volume bar and it gives a drop down showing the last 12 months fluctuations. I believe you will need to purchase the minimum $10 for the 100,000 searches though for this to show.

Hi. Your videos have been such a great help, Thank you. Please would answer just one question? On the section where you type 'word search' in the Amazon search line, how do you get the box with the red outline to come up showing the search word numbers? I have tried following your process, but this box and the details to the right of the box do not appear. I'm probably missing something very simple, but it eludes me. Hey Paul, how do you upload the back page of a paperback book? For some reason, it only seems to show the front cover once it is published but I see on other pages they are able to show two photos of the paperback - front and back cover. Would love some help with this! Thanks!

I got one question: if I put a keyword that has a 30.000 search volume and competition is slightly more than 1000 and sometimes 2000 or even 5000, is this keyword still ok in that particular situation? I think if the ASV is high, we can take a keyword that gives us more than 1000 books or even 5000. Thank you.

Hi Paul, thanks for your great content! I have a couple of questions for you regarding keywords. You've said you look for keywords that have less than 1000 search results. 1. If, when doing a search, Amazon says "over 1,000" is that OK or too high? 2. Is there a minimum number of search results? Any "sweet spot"? Thank you!!

Did you use a template for your book size? If so, below the layer of your cover is the layer of your template. Try sending the cover to back and your template should show up. Delete that layer and your cover should appear. I did mine in Canva.

Do you mean to rank your book? If so, there is no fixed time. It depends on other factors also such as whether customers are clicking on your book when it appears for certain search terms.

I published 6 colouring books for my nieces and nephews using my paid subscription to mid journey and then all of a sudden KDP terminated my account and claimed any royalties that I had. Hi Paul! I have a question about Book Bolt: how accurate is the Amazon Search Volume (which is per month, if I am not wrong) for a particular keyword? For example, on Book Bolt I find a keyword with 20000-30000 AMZ Search Volume and 800 results on AMZ. I doubt that I found the gold ticket for that keyword so I`m wondering if the AMZ search volume results are actually accurate? Also, for keywords that AMZ is giving me in the search bar - which would be the most searched for, right? - i find 1000-2000 AMZ search volume on book bolt. Am I doing something wrong?

You decided about doing a word search book before doing any keyword research? I mean isn't your whole intention to produce books that were proved to be good sellers using your keyword research? You appear to be one of those people that you mention who starts the process backwards, ie..creating the book first!

I picked that just to use as an example for doing the keyword research video. Also, word search is a niche. So normally start with a niche, validate the niche and then start drilling down with keyword research.
