I work at a call center for the National Passport Information Center and during working hours there’s a few times during the day where we don’t don’t receive calls for 15-30 mins at a time. So I would be sitting there bored out of my mind! We can’t even have our phones on the floor and we can’t go on any websites except the government websites. We can read books but I’m not much of a book reader… lol So I have started to bring my metal earth kits into work and it has been amazing! I have done about 26 metal earth models so far! Whenever people walk past my desk they ask what I’m making this time and where to get them! Such a fun hobby for me. I’m glad I found them that day I went into Michaels store. It definitely makes the work day go by a lot faster too!

I tried to build Deadpool. I threw him in the trash after hours and hours of the parts not fitting right. I normally don’t give up but honestly this was just too difficult of a build because of all the curves of the human body.

Something so simple but you just made it much more easier for me. Thank you so much

DO NOT buy the 'Metal Earth' brand 3 piece tool kit. Price equals quality and that should give you the biggest hint at what you are going to get. In my set, the nippers didn't even meet at the very end, so they were never going to achieve a clean cut. The long-nose pliers were badly forged and finished unevenly and the bullnose pliers never gripped at the very end. Instead, I use a good quality pair of plastic modelling sprue cutter nippers with a very fine point and they are perfect. For my plier selection, I use a set of Kinchrome miniature pliers. I have done over a dozen kits so far with no issues.

Thanks for the info. I can understand what you talking about but with this set I've not noticed that. Guess it could be a hit or miss with this manufacturer.

I've completed 5 models and never once used a sharp instrument (knippers, cutters, knife, etc). I actually don't even use pliers actually. I prefer 3 slightly different pairs of hemostats (basically with fine, medium and slightly more medium tips) for removing parts from the tree and for construction.

Red Life my friend I looked at that and it was intimidating to me!! This is my fourth one-I’m trying to knock out all the Disney park ones since we live by Disney and go a lot. After I wrap these up I’m switching over to star wars and from that point on I have no idea...but doing these is doing so much for my psyche! It’s unreal!!

For rounding out cylindrical shapes, I use an unsharpened round wood pencil. The SR-71 was my first ME model and the long pencil made shaping the fuselage and engine housings much easier.

Great video. Just starting out and glad I watched this before opening up my first model. Thank you. Would you recommend a magnetic mat for work surface?
@TheAcydbuzz
@TheAcydbuzz Год назад
I tried that myself on my first MS model and found that the metal sheeting is so light, I was fighting the magnet to handle the parts. If you need them, a set of "helping hands" would probably work better.

I tried starting out with the Kinkaku-Ji model. After breaking too many tabs, I decided to cut my losses. Thinking I’ll pick up the Washington Monument one, fix my wounded pride a little 😂

The first one i tried was the Huey helicopter. (the painted one.) it was really difficult to bend everything in place to get all the tab attach with all those round shape. Le level difficulty was supposed to be medium. It didn't feel like it

I feel all the vehicles and aircraft are the harder ones. Try doing the castes or buildings to start out with.

does anyone know if there is a tool that would slide onto the tab so it can be twisted for the 90 degree like a small screwdriver with a slot in it.

I chose the terminator…..
@TheAcydbuzz

The earlier series showed a parts count on the outside and that kinda gave an idea as to dificulty. They don't do that any more but yeah, the lunar lander looks like it would be a headache. LOL
