I would love to thank the Brave/Yuusha series and many other super robot shows for teaching me that transforming robots aren't an original idea exclusive to Transformers. These shows are what really made me confident and secure about my own transforming robots
These mecha anime are badass, you just gave me a nostalgia trip, I remember watching Transformers 1984 back in the 80s when it came out! This is where my love for mecha started. 👍
I wish I had found this video earlier! I’m a big Transformers fan (and general robots fan) and only discovered the Yuusha series around a year ago from a manga. I started with BPJD and loved it! It served as a really good entry way into the Yuusha scene, with its approachable characters and plot. I have heard great things about other yuusha series (gaogaigar in particular) and having them broken down like this is really helpful in figuring out which shows I would like pursue.
All of them have a high points that make them worth watching in some way and I definitely loved them all Exkaiser:strong character traits, comedic villains and simplicity Fighbird:great sense of duty, the antics of Katori Yuutaro and unabashedly evil villains Da Garn:serialized story, developing villains and an evolving situation surrounding the main city Might Gaine:Strong traditional comic book vibe and a underlying mystery slowly unraveled… though takes forever to learn what it even is J decker:Amazing Amazing characters, variety of stories and Deckerd’s character Goldran:immense comedy, the villains are as much the main characters as the protags possibly more so and grand adventure full of variety Dagwon:strong character traits and I do mean strong, feels epic in scope, terror inducing scenarios caused by the villains that could top many points of the franchise GaoGaiGar:Grand Lore, strong scenarios and ambitious In contrast there’s also definitely low points to each one in some way Exkaiser:Simplicity (it can be a double edged sword) Fighbird:lack of complexity so much is one note Da Garn:disappointing final few minutes Might Gaine:some major characters are shallow and aren’t saved by their antics J Decker:lack of serialized story telling to build up to the final episodes, what was had was good but more would’ve helped Goldran:can be almost too silly Dagwon:character development does not happen often GaoGaiGar:the grand lore can sometimes be too much at times Oddly I find myself loving GaoGaiGar Dagwon and Fighbird the most. Only commonality they got is incredibly satisfying finales and they have red birds. Fighbird I enjoyed how unabashedly evil the villains are. Dagwon is a similar deal along with the characters mostly how they act in the final parts it might’ve been the closest I got to crying without crying… though J Decker actually did get me to cry. Gaogaigar’s grand lore and epic battles as well as how iconic it has become is what keeps it good to me and watching the whole series the evolution to GaoGaiGar is interesting
Haven’t seen it yet, but the continuity of major staff has been broken. It’s directed by one of the Yuusha animators, so I imagine it’s more of a spiritual successor or influence rather than direct entry into the Yuusha franchise
@@bobsamurai bravern's in the legally distinct yuuki (courage) series. it's also great, it shamelessly steals from the brave series because the main robot is a giant goofball who thinks that stuff is the coolest.

This franchise always reminds me of 80s cartoons, I get it, the franchise is based on Transformers but it's also weird in that they came out in the 90s. I might just watch the ones you deem are great. Mainly in that mech anime in general tend to be on the longer side of anime. Not shonen anime long but is some of the longer anime in general.

There's a lot of that, as well as minor references. I think they have toy trucks sitting around as models because you can see the same background vehicles in these anime, same colors and everything.
So far I've watched some of Gaogaigar, a few J Decker episodes, and just started Exkaiser. I'm really impressed but it's very hard to find places to watch episodes and the toys are expensive and rare. There are some Sentai mecha that take inspiration from the Brave series like VRV Robo and Datas Hyper.
I wish that they maneged to make an Anime of GaoGaiGar Vs. Betterman, which is a sequel of GaoGaiGar Final and Betterman and has some interesting things such as GaoGaiGo.
yea I totally would. I'm so happy to hear new news because Might Gaine needs it most. Hopefully it's successful and they do the same with the other entries
When you gave a grade to Gaogaigar I honestly opened my mouth in disbelief and bent back on the chair lmao (mostly because it's the only one I watched, loved it, and I'd bet that it was watched more in the west than all the other Brave series combined twice over) But your ranking shows, at least to me, that whole Brave series is worth a watch and good and there's more to it than GGG (though just this one series probably makes figure collectors bankrupt) Also, if you're reading this comments still and nobody asked before, why didn't you include Gaogaigar Final?

Are you going to look at some Transformers shows as well? I think you'd really enjoy the Unicron Trilogy if you liked Brave, especially Micron Legend, just don't watch them dubbed.
I wanna point out that he pronounces GaoGaiGar as "GaoGaiGa," the English dub says it as "GaoGaiger," and the og japanese dub pronounces it with Gar at the end. Like how is this word pronounced.
While I haven't seen many of this series, I believe you are comparing the shows too much to each other, instead judging each on it's own, as a stand-alone entry, which they all pretty much are.
@@bobsamurai No, what I said is that you are comparing them too much to each other, the same goes for your individual review. Each show clearly tries to be it's own thing and focuses on a different aspect each time. But you, for example, criticize GaoGaiGar for not focusing on the characters, while it is clear that it wasn't the intent in the first place. Just because the shows belong to the same series, it doesn't mean that they should be directly compared in such aspects, since each does things differently, which naturally changes the focus of the entire thing. Not everything should focus on the characters or not be very silly, after all. Those are super robot shows. It's fine to watch just to see cool robots fight, and heroes just being heroes.
@@lemonov3031 those are just examples. ggg has good action, but it's not good enough to compensate for its length and shallow plot and characters. a good example would be the other action oriented super robot anime the same studio produced the previous year. without taking past experiences into account, everything would be the best thing ever made all the time, or else how could it be criticized?
@@bobsamurai I think you misunderstood my point. I said, the goal of GGG definitely wasn't to tell a great story with well written characters. It was different and you didn't like it because of that. Which is, well, totally fine, but isn't exactly fair. This sort of criticisms should be noted of course, but it's clear that the authors' intent wasn't to exactly avoid it. The problem is when the story attempts to make a deep plot with detailed characters, but fails at that. But GGG isn't a story which was trying that. It's like complaining about robots not being as realistic as in Muv-Luv. They really weren't meant to be. The same goes here.
