I've recently began teaching myself how to pop. always trying to expand my variety of moves and always trying to get better. thanks for makin this vid it helped me gain more knowledge to finesse my basic movements to look more solid. much appreciated man
Don't bother what the other smartasses are saying. I like your videos especially since you seem to have a kind and educationalistic way of talking/teaching. Keep it up!
@Italiks to clarify, the fundamental thing that your doing while popping is controlling your muscles but obviously it's not about how much muscle you have...it's how you control the muscles in your body.
dude i like the way you explain , but i feel quite "tight" as im a weightlifter ( yeh , ive been inspired by terry crews but i think he mustve done that shit before he was buff ) and i cant get it going . will keep trying tho . cheers
Im not trying to be funny or anything but when you said use all the space around you....well i hit my heating lamp and it fell on the rug and caught on fire....now its dark in my room....
This probably sounds really weird, maybe arrogant, but... I can do al that stuff but I never had any lessons or somebody show me anything, it's just how I dance, learned it by watching movies and just going with da flow... I'm thinking now about joining a dance school to learn proper routines, might as well do something usefull with it. They will teach me proper routines and choreo right?
yo guys if u r having trouble with this try flicking ur wrist to help with the arm hits , kinda like how u rev a motocycle and after a while u can hit without flicking ur wrist think of it like training wheels
oh okay, i'll do some slo-mo's in future vids. but for now, i'll just say get comfortable moving each joint separately before even doing the wave. it's all about knowing your body and adapting something your body isn't use to doing. hope that helps!
I'll have to agree hitting doesn't rely entirely on the amount of muscle you have. Have you seen the French girls that faced off Salah in that "hip hop dance vid"? They're not muscular. So guys, don't give yourself the excuse that because you think you're skinny that you aren't physically capable of hitting hard. :3
thank you T_T I'm a girl currently trying to learn popping by myself so... your tutorial really helped me out :D Although its not that good now I'll try harder to make this work (hopefully lol)
hi man. nice vid. i'm girl and i now how to c-walk, but now i want to learn this. cos i think popping is very cool and it's great dance style. your vid is great. i'll learn somethin' from you. tnx. ;)
hitting is mainly tensing muscles and relaxing the same muscles extremely quickly, creating the illusion of the body part in question having a jolt run through it
Start with the foundational techniques: HITTING, dimestopping, and boogaloo rolls (emphasis on hitting, which is what creates the "popping" effect) Then master the following moves: Fresno, Twist-O-Flex, Neck-O-Flex, Master Flex, Walkout, Sac Walk/kick ball changes, Egyptian Twist, Old Man, and heel-toe moves (like glides). After this, try advanced isolations and the basics of other styles under the popping culture (boogaloo, robot, waving, tutting, animation, etc.).
@zZzCrazyHorrorFanzZz Popping is hitting to the beat with timing, and within those 'hits' - you can do all sorts of moves (waves, boogaloo). What you should be doing is creating that illusion of your body "popping" to the beat. See the uploader's freestyle at end of this vid, the first 2 seconds of his freestyle. That's called the 'Fresno'. It's the basic move for popping. Practice hitting to the beat first.
Oh, I forgot to tell you, Yes I chose to hip hop dance, but I HAVE no idea of how to do it or what is it...I remember it has something to do with relaxing and contracting our muscles.....Have no idea..... So please tell me what is popping and how to do it and which first popping move I should learn.. Thank you for taking your time reading both my comments and thank you so much for those who helped...and the uploader of this video. Thank you all
Oh and I forgot to tell you, I chose to hip hop popping dance style, but I still have no idea of what it is, what i know is its got something to do with your muscles, relaxing and contracting..something like that. I have no clue how to do popping....lol. I'm so clueless forgive me but please tell me and then after that tell me which is the first popping lesson I should learn...since this is the first time I would dance Please :3 and thank you for taking your time to read this! and those helped
Man, i'm so confused, I just decided to dance and I dunno ANYTHING about dancing. I watched step up and dance movies yeah....So then I decided to dance, so after doing my research of dancing, I found popping amusing so I decided to learn that, but i'm still confused. What do I exactly should learn first....waving...hitting...I dunno..I';m confused. So please guide me :) I would love to hip hop pop dance!
oh i hate controlling my muscles but i want to learn that really!!!!! i love watching it and i also want to do it can it be possibly do by a female? is it good for a woman to do that hitting, popping and waving thing but i have nohesitations all i know is i wanna do it and 1 more problem..,i hate looking for a place to practice...,all i see is rough streets and floors...i need a clan and smooth floor to enchance my leg power but how can i do that if i don't even have a good, wide place to practise
practice your waves =D instead of isolating, sometimes u need to work with ur body type as well. i notice u have big shoulders, so instead of isolating them u can try rotating them a bit to make the illusion istead of making a big isolating part of the wave that kills the elbow and wrist waves. one other way is snapping out your shoulder, if you dun get what i mean, message me i ll make a video for u sir. Jay
So I basically have nothing to do this summer and can't dance for shit. It's quite embarrasing... I am quite shy as well, I think being able to dance like you will help me boost my confidence a little and would mean a heck of a lot if you started making more tutorials step wise. This tutorial was pretty helpful though, thanks a lot! :)
nice video mate. im just getting into this (my first) style of dancing. I love it, but i'm pretty late to the game (i'm 28..) quicxk question - how long should I be practicing EACH technique? like is 5 minutes every couple hours the world record? or if i do it for 12 hours a day is that not enough? I feel comfortable messing around for 10 or so minutes every hour or so
That was a super quick rundown of all the moves it seemed. I think you should go more in depth with the arm wave because just teaching wrist, elbow, shoulder, leaves a lot of room for error. Rolling your shoulder instead of hunching it will help smooth out your wave btw. It'd have been nice to see your legs on the boogaloo. pretty hlpful beginning dance vid though. NJ
Woow... Im a bellydancer, and i've always dreamed of it to combine it with popping! and now that you have told us that its actually about muscle control, i have hope again that ill be able to "master" it, since in bellydancing muscle control is a must =D just love your way of explaining! your awesome
hi there! i'm a student at Bryant and i couldn't help but notice your Velocity T-shirt haha~ i'm the scene leader for the South Korean scene in i2i this year and your video's definitely gonna help us get our moves right :) thanks!
Is hitting, waving, and boogaloo, popping? Or is it 4 different things? So like is popping the boogalo, hitting, and waving??? Does popping consist of waving, hitting, and the boogaloo? Im trying to put it the best way i can!!! LOL
the honesty in the way you approached this made this tutorial all the more friendly. it was like a next door neighbor (who says that anymore? we dont speak to our neighbors..) kinda vibe coming from you hahaha, thanks for uploading this! :)
Wow,You are really good. Thanks for the tutorial,It really helped me a lot ^^. There are something i don't understand which is the boogaloo and the body wave. They seems very hard.Is there any way to prevent a stiff body?
listen here boy im black i been doin pop lockin since the 70s boy before u was born cant teach me nothin we invented it along whith hip hop culture im glad to see people still enjoying it lol.
Very nice & clearly instructed video. It gave me an idea to help me with my boogaloo'n. I am trying to get better at funkstyles and hip-hop in general. You're a good dancer btw! Thanks! ^_^
thank you JESUS ive been looking for a tutorial in this and i either came across people who A: couldnt dance B:didnt explain sh!t and C:went to fkin fast thank you you are heaven sent!
Hi ! I am a begginer and I want to learn this dance but I did'nt know how to start ... could you see me how much time i must practise a day this movements? and some songs for start dancing thanks .
This was great not a lot of people break it down like this, for people who are brand new to this it helps them to get a visual and mental understanding, awesome job. ANd your waving is nasty by the way!
Also how long would it take for me to learn the basics of popping and locking. I don't expect to be a professional dancer by the end of summer but just so I can set my time wisely.
Good tutorial bro. Have been dancing for about 3 years bt took some time off for my exams. Ur video is the first proper tutorial iv listend to since i got back on some dance. Thanks
hey deff very good vid only thing i would recommend is when doing the arm wave maybe do a full wave or two but slow it down. cuz u were hittin in pretty fast for beginners like me
hey dude nice video, but for my body wave it always feels awkward going down from top. the awkwardness always starts at the hip area, and therefore my legs fail too >
I need a little more help with the wave part. I can get the wrist to shoulder kinda, but going from the shoulder to the wrist is a little more difficult for me. Any tips?
i would say for sure that the best and most visible popping comes from the legs, cuz it pops your whole body if you know how to work it. try it and see how you like it
Just letting u know, it is incorrect to pop your shoulder. You should be popping your lats instead which brings your shoulder down but just for a split second.
so when u say if u cant pop strong enough to do push up and pull ups, is that to tighten the muscles or something, or do u have to me really strong to pop hard?
