I love all your videos. Thank you for making them. What kind of silk do you use for your different pieces? Do you use different silk for scarf then for other pieces?

Good Morning Ronnie, Thanks for your kind words, it is my pleasure to share. Online classes coming soon. I use silk Habotai 10mm for most of my pieces. It is strong, and light enough for me to see through. Sometimes, I will use silk Charmeuse or Satin silk, using free-style or direct painting techniques. Hope this helps. Enjoy the work, and do share at:- clara@claradesigns.com You may also enjoy my Instagram pages @claradesignsart

Thank you for so generously sharing your gifts! Where's a good place to buy the sumi brushes(sp?) and silk salt? I've been slowly acquiring and practicing bit by bit but I'm growing out of the local craft stores.

Thanks for your kind words M Saint. I am not certain where you're located, but I purchase my silk painting tools from Dharma Trading, in California. If you are based in NJ, you may also find them at Jerry's Art Supplies in Essex Green. Glad you are enjoying the process. The more you experiment, the more you create. ENJOY!

Good Afternoon Meenakshi Goel, thanks for your interest. Let me first say that I am based in New Jersey, USA. The silk paints I use are called Dye-Na-Flow Silk Paints, and I purchase them from Dharma Trading, in California. ( Dharma Trading does ship internationally.) These colours are quite bright. I use Dye-Na-Flow silk paints, because they are easily ‘heat-set’ with a very hot iron. I do believe that Seta Silk silk paints are very much the same, if you are able to purchase these where you live. Hope this helps. You can also check out my video on theTools for Silk Painting. All the best!👍🏽

@@meenakshigoel6556 Good Morning Meenakshi, which ever you can get in India, but be sure you read the labels as to how the silk dye or paint is heat-set. Remember, I prefer to use water-based gutta. I find it easier for beginners. Hope this helps. All the best!🖌🌺

How to do heat set .it means ironing d fabric ??....how is the finishing process
@claraapplewhaitedesigns7463
@claraapplewhaitedesigns7463 2 года назад
Good Morning Kavita Kalda, I use Dye-Na-Flow paints, so I follow the instructions for 'heat-setting' the silk, which are written on the labels of the Dye-Na-Flow paint bottles. Therefore, you must read the labels of whatever silk paints or dyes that you are using, to find out how to 'heat-set' your silk. Please see my RU-vid video number 9, SILK SCALF- WASHING OUT PROCESS. This video shows the washing-out process and the finishing process. (The ironing at the finishing process, is the same as in the 'heat-set' process; that is, one uses slow passes of the iron over each section of the scalf. The iron must be hot. NB. The back of the scalf MUST also be ironed in the 'heat-set' process.) I do hope this helps. ENJOY! You may also check me on my Instagram account, @claradesignsart

Where can i get plain silk scarf?

@claramitchell746 2 года назад
Dear Holy Craft, I purchase all of my silk painting materials from Dharma Trading, in California. They may get their silks from China, I believe. This store caters to artists and craft’s people in almost every medium, and their personnel are artists themselves, and are very helpful indeed! Hope this helps.
