This Begonia drawstring backpack by Blue Calla was a quick and easy sew. It is a measure and cut pattern with no pattern pieces, which isn't my favorite to work with, but this one doesn't have tons of pieces, so I'll give it a pass on that aspect.

I want to apologize for any lighting issues you may see. I had to run with just one small light because they were putting off so much heat. This was recorded on one of our hottest days so far this year. I was truly feeling it here in the studio.

Your bag turned out so great! I use a Tunisian crochet hook for sewing, too. I use mine for poking out corners and turning tubes, but I’ve never tried using it to thread drawstrings. Such a great idea! Thanks for the video.

That is exactly why I do it. I remember when I started sewing (before RU-vid was a thing 😆), everyone around me only seemed to be perfect and I was making mistakes left and right. I intentionally leave these in sometimes to let those inexperienced, and those who do have experience know that mistakes are a part of the process. We're human, they happen. Happy sewing! 💜

It is a super easy pattern and not very time consuming. The only issue (for me) is that it is all measure and cut. I prefer patterns that include pattern pieces.

Hi! Normally I'd use painters tape, but I was out and grabbed a roll of my washi tape from my planner supplies. It worked great!

The upper exterior is quilting cotton with woven interfacing, the bottom exterior is marine vinyl, and the lining is waterproof canvas.

Why would you want to seam that bottom piece of what looks like faux leather , why not use one solid piece and sew on your front to one side and the back to the other . Draw your squares for your miter area and cut . When you miter the bag, you can cut down on the bulk on bottom of the bag .

This is not my own design. I followed the pattern I purchased as written. I always do so with a first-make video. I have quite a few people who follow them like a tutorial and deviating from that wouldn't be much help for them. Thank you for explaining an alternate way that might help others who don't have the pattern. I, myself, am a pattern designer (you can purchase my patterns on my website) and don't always do things the way other designers do.

The bottom part is marine vinyl fabric. It's a great alternative to leather and not too expensive.

I'm using a poly thread for this project. This type of thread tends to fray pretty badly, so singing the ends helps prevent this. I also have an electric thread cutter than does this, but the lighter is just a bit quicker to use.

I'm sorry the video wasn't for you. My timelapse videos aren't to showcase patterns or items. They are simply videos of my sewing process. I do, however, share photos of the items I make on Instagram (when I remember).
