This might sound stupid, but even though they're said to make blackened death metal it's different to me. I feel like their genre should actually be called deathened black metal since their music is more black than death. If that makes sense..

The majority of the public for this type of music tends to think that more notes=better. Extreme music sometimes looks like a sport, so yes, many outhere will think that less notes on a groovier song will be a weak drum line. Its like drugs =p , people get adiccted to more and more. Thats the reason behemoth is nice, they still think on a very creative way.

Amazing drum parts on that album! Maybe not as technical as some of his work on 'The Apostasy' and 'Evangelion' but Inferno said himself on drum talk interview that his aim is to create atmosphere with his parts now rather than technicality and speed. He plays to the song.

Simpler doesn’t mean worse or weak. Yeah compared to evangelion, the apostasy and demigod they have toned down but it’s perfect for what it’s for. Evangelion and demigod were very much death metal, this is more blackened death metal, requiring different styles. Anybody who says simpler always = worse doesn’t understand

He always has played "weak" blast beat.

Wallace McGregor Not really. His blasts are usually great but this vid they just seem soft

Chandler Brown The snare sound is pretty weak here. In other videos it sounds great and much more tight.

Eddie Hellgren Not just the sound though but his stick height is almost nonexistent. Even in songs where he goes faster, like 300 bpm, he has better stick height and power than here

Is it necessary to hit hard if everything is mic'd up and the bass drums are triggered? I never understood the point of hitting so hard if the drums can be heard.
