Hands down one of the best Metallica interviews I’ve ever seen. Everyone joined in the conversation and it’s probably the most relaxed I’ve seen the boys be. That and just dripping with pure joy for this tour. Love to see it!
Dude I was just about to comment the same thing. They look SO ready to hit the road. I gotta do everything in my power to see these cats when they hit the states.
It's funny, to me Rob still seems like the new guy, which he is the newest...but he's already been in the band 20 years, and is their longest tenured bassist.
Although he's been in the band for that long He hasn't bonded with them 100%. I think He enjoyed more his Suicidal / Infectious days although He makes more money with Metallica. He's definitely closer with Kirk.
16:13 Lars still passionate about making music, hence his trademark excited tongue slither. 🤣 18:18 Rob being the longest bassist in Metallica: I'm the new guy. 😄 39:58 James on Lars' drumming mistakes.😂
I have always loved that Metallica plays ‘in the round’. They’re able to actually sell out an entire arena and all of the seats have a view of the band. It’s amazing.
Even in their succes it shows how vulnerable they are and even us we're just human. Thank you METALLICA... Your music helps my pain and suffering subsides...
Thank you Metallica for the inspiration. Been a fan for more than 3 decades..I hope you consider touring one last time here in the Philippines. Once in a lifetime experience. Good health to all of you guys!
what a fantastic interview great questions from a true fan loved it we know when we hear Extascy of gold that the greatest metal band ever are 5 or so mins from coming out on stage and rocking
7:44 Hetfield : We're the 4 biggest fans of Metallica." Hammet trying to remember when James said before about how they hated Jason for being a big Metallica fan.😊
This band inspired me in 1988 to learn guitar .. I was an upright string bass player in the elementary and jr. high school orchestras . Was in boys choir in 1985 cuz I loved singing Elvis … Choir in high school and university as well Metallica is still hugely relevant They bring people together
72 Seasons is such an impressive release when you really think about it, because even after all these years, they are still writing interesting songs compared to other bands who kind of lose their mojo when they get older. James' voice is better than ever, Lars' drumming still has mojo in it, and they are all still alive and well even through tough times and great times! I'm so grateful that this album exists.
At $1000 for floor seats and then $900, $800 on the way back CROOKS please address this . I tried to see them in Canada and the tickets ..I couldn’t go ! What a SCAM BAND? Or come clean? It the most awful thing I’ve ever seen in music!!!’ You can love Metallica and still be honest
@@No_1_really_ I fully agree with you and is the reason why I didn't go see them, but at the same time, if they put the ticket at 5000$ and it's sold out, why wouldn't they do it ? gotta be logical here
@Reffidex I was thinking of the exact same quote. It's a sad reality what Jason went through, because Metallica essentially became what Jason envisioned.

So am I unfortunately the ticket prices was so high we could not afford to go. Must be a rich mama band and I cannot believe no one from the Metallicas organization is addressing this. They know $1000 on the floor 6,7,800$ on the way back towards the back $350 on the sides COME ON…why are we ignoring this . Am I lucky to just see this interview. You have no idea how bad I wanted to see these guys and so what if I’m the only one with enough b@llz to say something..I’ll take the hit but someone had too !!!
@@No_1_really_ remember that reps and stadiums charge these prices. the band can only have so much say. every band that speaks about prices could tell you. but don't forget that they also have a huge crew to pay. it isn't cheap. not to mention fees just to tour. the world got more expensive and so did their tickets
So happy we get to hear Kirk talk more often in interviews! You can tell he has a pure soul and puts everything into the music. Even just watching him perform says it all. Who cares about the haters, they can't express themselves like he does.
I dont know if its the greatest interview the band had. But if it isnt, it's really up there. Such a fun time for the fans while speaking in a normal journalistic way. The interviewer had the perfect balance of being a fan and still maintain his composure, and he made them comfortable and also have a great time.
@@volutedmetal8543 im pretty sure Zane has also been interviewing Metallica for a LONG time. if im not mistaken im pretty sure he even makes an appearance in the beginnings of Some Kind of Monster. His chemistry with the band and the kinds of questions he can bounce of them are outstanding
The way Kirk just sits there calm and looking very fragile like a grandpa. Yet he becomes an absolute beast on stage, with a guitar in his hands. Also, the fact that Rob still thinks he is "the new guy" after 20 years being in the band just goes to show that he is a humble human being that looks up to the three other guys.
Something’s changed in James and you can see it in his face. After this last rehab stay he’s been way happier, more engaging, lost some weight, looks like he’s smoking CBD cigars for his anxiety. I’m happy for him 😊
I'm pretty confident he's smoking the M81 metallica branded cigars, I own some and the best I can tell from the videos I've seen it looks like them. I saw one that still had the band around it and it looked like the M81 logo.
Credit to Zane. I'd recommend watching his interview with The Mars Volta. The way he gets those guys to open up is nothing short of spectacular. Master interviewer.
Kirk looks like he’s been more vulnerable recently When he speaks He sounds like someone who is holding back tears. He’s expressing himself and it’s beautiful.
im watching this after going to the phoenix show in arizona. im new to heavy metal. i got into it early 2023. im 36. i was very depressed past few years. a lot of trauma. i knew i needed to make this show. even if none of my friends liked heavy metal. i didnt care. i went alone. and it changed me. they were my first heavy metal concert. im a musician too but in the hip hop world. i had a life changing moment at the show. i felt the vibrations. all the emotions. i slept 5 hours. the next day i had to go deliver for fedex ground in 100 degree temps with no Ac. havent ate since before the show and i had my self a 12 hour day. best night of my life hands down. feels like a dream
Watching Lars geek out about creating setlists and then the stadium/arena setup and talking about all the in's and out's is something that you don't see often. Really cool.
Same here, we chose well. I first heard them in 1985 as a 15 year old. My best friends (still my best friend) "punk buddy" played Am I Evil for us an was jumping all over his bedroom like a crazy person an I found my new favorite band. An they have been ever since. They feel like friends and or family now, I've never met any of them but that's how they feel to me. An they're bigger now than they've ever been, that has been crazy to see over all these years. First time I saw them was on the Damage Inc. Tour supporting their Master Of Puppets album. I saw them about 3 months after Cliffs passing. There was about 6k people at that show and when they come next it'll be 38 years after that show an they're playing two shows at a building that holds 72k fans for football. That is insane. They've just kept getting bigger an bigger. I don't know how they could possibly top this current tour but it won't surprise if they do somehow. It's really been cool to be one of their fans all these years. I just got tickets this morning for a show that won't be played until August of next year. I haven't saw them live since 2003. I'm really excited to see this next show, it'll be their biggest event they've ever done in Seattle. There's already a bunch of sold out sections in the stadium. I may even try to go the second night but I'll probably have to sit up high for that show, the tickets I got this morning were pretty expensive but I'll be close to the stage. So I'm happy, but I'll be happy just to be a part of it.
It is so incredibly cool that Lars remembers the last times he played in the Netherlands including the names and super accurate pronunciations of the venues

I love to see the guys doing so well. It seems like they are synced up and a really good place in their lives (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually) This interviewer did a fantastic job. Good questions, enthusiasm, interaction, etc I can't wait to see them on tour next year. Long live Metallica!
I remember Zane Lowe first appearing as a presenter/DJ and thinking who is this guy? But he quickly proved he can nail a great interview. Very natural in every genre
Yeah, I remember him at the very end of 1997, appearing on MTV's "Up for It", with Eddie Temple Morris. A good ol' live show, chatting to the camera in the vein of the absolute classic "Most Wanted" , with Ray Cokes from the early 90s. Then a coupla years later, Zane was hosting "Brand New", featuring the latest indie, rock videos. As you said mate, he comes across as a genuine fan , and manages natural conversation with insightful questioning. Be it Metallica or the recent Depeche Mode interview, he really is good.
It’s so clear the mutual interest between Metallica and Zane. Very smooth interview, no interruption no bad editing or whatsoever. Just pure talk and openness. I enjoyed every bit of this interview.
So glad that they focused on “Inamorata” for a good portion. Never have I been so confident in a song being an instant classic in my life. After absorbing an entire album and then knowing I had to finish the album with an 11 minute song and then being blown away by it and having it not feel like 11 minutes… Long Live Metallica. 🤘🏽
30 odd years ago my dad took me to a band called metallica. I was a young kid, around 8 at the time and my dad taking me to see Metallica was something impossible to erase from my memory. 14 years ago my wife entered the wedding venue on Ecstacy of Gold. Our honeymoon was to Rock Werchter 2009 where Metallica closed the festival. They even played Dyer's eve that night, my all time favourite Metallica song. On our 10 year anniversary we went to Metallica in the Amsterdam Arena. Last april i went with my 11 year old son to the 72 seasons kickoff in Amsterdam. My wish was to go with 3 generations but sadly my dad passed away 2 years ago. My son was beaming with amazement at the show and definitely had the time of his life. The shirt i bought him is pretty much worn whenever he can. 3 generations of Metallica fans, i just passed the baton to my son, and hopefully my daughter gets to see them live as well, when hopefully we can go as a family. Thanks for the music Metallica and thank god for Heavy Metal indeed.
Zane did a brilliant job interviewing Metallica, really well thought questions; probably their best interview yet. Lars is a lot more thoughtful, and influential than I had previously realised, Kirk and James really bare all emotionally. We are so lucky to have these guys!
I think he’s a better fit than Jason. I think Rob don’t want to impede on the threes direction, but I wish he would give his “2 cents” more often. He’s a humble happy guy.
@@jayyoutube8790 I think the same of Jason, if they would have let his 2 cents in more often and not buried him in the mix he would have really shined, guy was a phenomenal singer too. Rob is such a versatile player and has fit in perfectly since day one, honestly can't say anything bad about either of them.
22:48 - it's always surreal and inspiring hearing James talk about life. I think it takes someone of his stature to really allow us as men to open up and seek help where it's needed. Fantastic interview. Zane did an incredible job.
On my worst days i can watch a Metallica video or an interview and immediately feel better about everything. Great interview! Thank god for Metallica❤️
Well guess what Carl , they were supposed to play in India 2011 New Delhi , unfortunately due to stadium logistics the concert at the last moment was cancelled .I saved up and didn’t went home that Diwali to watch Metallica . Thankfully I’m currently in Canada and will be watching them live in 2024 . 🤟🤟
As a drummer who grew up watching Lars, I'm really digging the justice/black album era influenced drum set hes using. Brings back good memories. Probably the coolest looking kit since the late 90s imo. Never dug the green, orange, or purple sparkle starclassics hes used over the years.
I wonder how much longer James can down pick as fast as he does. It’s hard to believe he doesn’t have arthritis or something. It’s not normal to down pick that fast I was able to pick fast like him when I was in bands but not every song like that and for 2 hours. I can still do it fast but for short amounts of time like a 20 second riff in a song and when I’m 3/4 of the way through I’m like almost done don’t cramp up lol. It would be cool to see him and the band at 80 years old playing master of puppets but let’s face it they don’t have easy music to play like The Rolling Stones or Kiss their music is fast.
Just need to build forearm muscles up, which a few hours a day will do, even if you're 60. Lars will be the first one to break, drums are much more physical.
This organization as Zane stated has a lot specialists involved for health care in every aspect. It’s running beast and they need to take in account everything.
I guess that by now they all have some trainers that help them to keep on shape, I try to down pick the bass on some Ramones or Misfits songs like James does on his songs, and it's INSANELY hard to keep the ritm, and those are short songs, and I don't play for 3 hours straight, his talent on that technique is really unique and almost unhuman!
One of thr only bands that started in the 80s still selling out arena and stadiums and one of the last band that still play with all the intensity that they started off with in there late teens truly amazing
James struggles with mental health, at least he admits its apart of him. He being himself. Accept him for him. As well as Kirk and the rest, accept them as them. Kirk is right Immorta is very sad but is also very inspiring.
For anyone wondering what the image on the t-shirt that Kirk is sporting is, it’s a work by Wifredo Lam, arguably the most important artist for cuban painting in the XXth century.
Metallica fans are the luckiest ones. No other band changes the setlist as often as Metallica, no other band embraces its past as Metallica and no other band gives away live stuff for free on RU-vid as Metallica. You can say whatever you want of James, Lars, Kirk and Rob, but those guys truly love their fans beyond the money.
@@davidharding200 Nope. Just checked out his RU-vid channel and there's no full concerts for free. See what I'm talking about? I love many artists and bands, but Metallica took its media to another level.
@@metjovi agree on the generosity that Metallica delivers completely. No band that I have ever seen has the generosity of metallica in that sense. It’s the changing up of the set list which Metallica arms certainly on par with. I think it’s Springsteen’s ability to pull a song name from the audience and the band has to meet that that is the really impressive bit of Springsteen and is band. But full kudos to Metallica, they really are the real deal, particularly when you consider most bands with only vary 3 song across day 100 shows ala Bon Jovi.
Metallica is just incredible. Even when they make mistakes during their tours, you can't even feel it. No matter how they play, it just sounds incredible. Love those guys!!! Continue amazing us Metallica, you guys just ROCK!
What an amazing interview for any Metallica fan❤ These guys are so intelligent and articulate, as well as being the most talented musicians on the planet. You feel like you know them after watching this❤
49:04 - this is what I wanted to see - the engineering solutions for creating this amazing production! I would love to see an in-depth interview with the stage crew and the guitar techs for how they solved the problems created by a 360^o stage! Amazing work from all of the teams involved!
Seeing the guys get so excited at how excited Zane is by Inamorata is, without any exaggeration, one of the most genuine moments I've seen in a music interview!! Both parties, Zane and Metallica, have my utmost respect!!
