2:47 The greatest line: "4-minute commute." Half the west coast has a 90 minute commute.
@MJM17
@MJM17 2 года назад
I felt that line coming early on when it said he was still home eating breakfast at 0530. I lived in Cincy and worked at UC (occasionally with Dr. I). Traffic in Cincinnati is SUPER unpredictable and hard to navigate around so you have to plan ahead if you can’t be late every once in awhile. Most days it takes about 20 minutes for me to get to UC medical center but just one wreck can make it an hour plus because there’s no where to go. Very frustrating 😤

I’ve always had a strong admiration for folks that actually make a plate and eat at the table for a meal… even if they’re alone. I think it’s about consistency. It shows discipline and structure. I dunno. Always stuck out to me. Good man, should be very proud of himself.

Low standards, for what, admiration? Yeah. Silly me, admiring somebody who takes the time to prepare a meal every morning and actually sit and eat it instead, despite working 80-100 hours a week. Low standards to admire a physician practicing emergency medicine at such a young age. What have you accomplished with your life? Dumbass comments on RU-vid videos? Bravo.

Question for the audience: Am I the only one here who if they eat breakfast too soon after waking up, it makes them nauseated? It's been like this my entire life. My wife can wake up and eat breakfast at 6 AM or 9 AM if she wants to, but I find breakfast to be repulsive because my stomach does not agree I'm hungry until around 11 AM when I've been up and at it for hours. The human body is so perplexing to me that I would like for it to make sense as to why I feel that way chronically.
@Paradoxicful
@Paradoxicful 2 года назад
That's literally just a matter of what you're used to. I used to be like you, and then I started each morning by eating just a little, and before I knew it, a little became more, and more, and more, till a full breakfast in the morning. Not only does our mind like structure, but our bodies do as well :-)

I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts. Since we are taking care of patients, there is no guarantee that we’ll be able to take a breakfast break. Some people don’t get to eat until the late afternoon from clicking in at 7am. I don’t like eating super early either but at least for me, it’s better that than possibly starving until like 3pm lol
@brodiemacleod69
@brodiemacleod69 2 года назад
If didn’t have my lunch at 1:45pm I definitely wouldn’t eat in the morning. Your body goes into a small “starvation” fast while sleep, as you are using very little energy. It takes time for you to come out of this as you start burning energy.
@AthenaDavinci
@AthenaDavinci Год назад
Generally I like to drink smoothies, or even eat a bit of yogurt. Usually I'll pack a quick granola bar or trail mix to kind of snack on the by lunch I'm ready for a big meal since I'm a second shift worker. I eat lunch at 6 and usually dinner I don't eat a ton
@nostalgia545
@nostalgia545 Год назад
It depends on if you are doing strenuous work. Do you have a remote job and wake up at 9? Then yea you won’t be hungry until 11, but if you’re waking up at 5am and running around and making life altering decisions then yea you need the fuel. It’s unrealistic to ask someone who has a hard day of work to fast because it’s healthier. It’s only possible for people who maybe don’t have jobs or for people who wake up later

Trust, when you're coming in super early in the morning, (5 to 7am) as a resident, those minutes spent not commuting = time you can be enjoying a coffee, catching up on the news, or an extra 20 minutes of sleep. The short commute is a huge part of improving quality of life.

So many of the hoops that doctor's and nurses to be have to jump through are unnecessary. We need well trained doctor's, but I don't understand what's accomplished by making them be sleep deprived unnecessarily. You will face sleep deprivation throughout your medical career, but it's almost like sleep deprivation is applauded in medical settings. That needs to change. Sleep deprivation isn't a virtue in and of itself. Caffeine isn't strong enough to help, you need industrial strength stimulants to be a doctor, and that's especially true for nurses. I wish people understood and appreciated how much work people in the medical field have to go through, some of it pointless or just out of ritual/tradition. I hope we can reform medicine and remove some of the antiquated practices that make doctoring/nursing unnecessarily difficult. We also need to use taxes to find college and learning expenses. So many people think that doctor's are just wealthy, but they usually have so much debt from college and otherwise related expenses so much so that you only truly take home about as much as the receptionist! That's why there's a doctor shortage. Sorry for the long comment. I just feel passionately about making it easier (and cheaper) for people to become doctors and nurses. I want competent doctors, but so much of this stuff has gone too far. If you can heal the sick and have an abundance of knowledge and experience, all of this mentorship, fellowship, and residence stuff is excessive. At least it's excessive how it is done. Doctor's, nurses, and everyone who works in the medical field, including janitors, I must thank you for your work. My life has been saved by hospitals at least twice, and that isn't counting my hip replacement in 2017. Like firemen, medical professionals true heroes who endure abuse that they shouldn't be required to endure all because they want to help people.
