Join me in a very candid look behind the scenes at the Kennedy Center. Everything from meeting Garth Brooks, Dick Van Dyke, and all the rehearsals leading up to the performance!
I could watch you dance all day Derek!! You are so down to earth too!! You share your gift just like the honorees have. Thank you for sharing that experience with your fans!!
DEREK....YOU were my favorite part of the whole show....DVD is a treasure to our generation....I was 12 when Mary Poppins came out....you did it perfectly!!! THANKS, so much....!!!
Grew up in DC & we used to have outdoor dances on the deck of the Kennedy Center in the eve in the scorching summer heat. The humidity & the hard dance surface. I would just die. I cannot imagine doing that in the heat of the day plus w/ a face mask on. I'm so glad you didn't pass out. So glad u got to see all the Kennedy Center theatres. They were gorgeous when I was little & loved how they have redecorated them since. I go to sit on stage behind the orchestra during a performance when I was on break from college. So amazing to watch Leonard Slatkin's face and conducting gestures.
This was an excellent feature. It gives people an idea of how much work, prep, and effort go into a performance, especially a dance routine. Hough is ridiculously talented.
I have to admit I did not know that watergate was a hotel. I learned something new. Thanks man!😃 I seriously wish I was your friend. I have loved Garth Brooks since I was 10 years old. Like seriously have been his biggest fan and I can’t tell you how much I dream that I could meet him and Trisha too. I love them more than any other musician ever.
This video was a blast! No wonder you were sweating so profusely while rehearsing with the mask on, Derek, I don't know how you were breathing! From one legend to another, Dick & Derek! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Loved seeing you dance again, miss you on Dancing With The Stars. Your an amazing dancer and person; always smiling. Thank you for sharing your adventure. You make me smile. 😁❤
Oh Derek I watched it Sunday & you were amazing !!! What an honor to be chosen to perform a couple of Dick Van Dyke's iconic numbers. His compliment must have thrilled you. He was really blown away by your dancing & that you learned Step In Time in so little time. 👌🥰❤️
What an amazing thing to be part of! I grew up watching old Dick Van Dyke shows and movies and always enjoyed his upbeat manner. I'm glad he loved your performance.
I lived there for many years so it was a treat to see it through your eyes. I loved the entire thing, but the highlight for me was at the end when you were talking to him. That must have been an amazing moment for you.
OMG what a honor!!!! Dick looks older but still looks awesome and Garth and Tricia!! You are one lucky guy to meet those iconic stars!!! Awesome dancing, thank you for sharing this!! Only thing missing was Hayley!
Thank you for always making me smile, Derek- with your dancing and authenticity. And always making me laugh- with your suit that you outgrew a bit. 🤣 Loved the little pic in the corner of you and Hayley!
Thoroughly enjoyed your performances Derek! You were just magical in "Put on a Happy Face". But I was disappointed with the editing. They only showed Laura's performance in front of Dick Van Dyke. I would have loved to see DVD's reaction to your number with Laura Osnes. We didn't get to see the pure joy and happiness he must have felt seeing his iconic numbers performed in front of him. I get the "Step in Time" not shown on stage since it was part of a larger number. But we should have been able to see #POAHF. I thought DVD's 70 year career would have earned him (and he deserved) more recognition on the broadcast.
I loved your performances! I'm curious, though. I know I've seen you perform to "Step In Time" before. How many different iterations of the routine have you choreographed and/or performed, and do any of the moves carry over from one version to another?
Love it! You were amazing, Derek! You blew everybody away with your talents! I guess Singing in the Rain is no longer a go? I hope at least you can have another residency in Las Vegas. So bummed it was cancelled and I too had to cancel my trip, hotel & tickets to two shows.
This was so fascinating. I've been to the Kennedy Center, but never in those parts of the building. Watching how much energy goes into practice and realizing how hot it must have been performing outside...wow....I don't think I've seen you sweat that hard...and I've been in the front row of your live performances. You really do need to remember the full name of your dance partner, though.
Yup!! It must be so nice to be in the presence of such really warm and caring people, Mark included. He’s good people too. I loved Garth at the Presidential inauguration! 😊 Dick Van Dyke is just simply a legend. Btw, You think all the huff, huff, houghing is because D’s getting old 😜
I meant to text this earlier, as I just wanted to add that I can’t wait to start dancing again, it would be a dream to one day dance with D...creating something beautiful, as he’s the go to man in creating tailored perfect dances. Yup! definitely something I share in common with D, expressing and creating through the art of dance..just comes naturally. I’ve gotten terribly out shape too, or that’s the excuse I’ve been using too in order to avoid the thought that I may be getting older.😜 Actually, I’ve been caring for my home cancer patient my auntie Lola, which really takes quite a toll on a person, as treating her wounds is heartbreaking. On a different note, like D just did, I can’t wait to start traveling now that things are going back to norma, but probably farther than Washington DC. a longer trip to Africa sounds nice, but later down the road. First, I need to spend some time with the amazing Mark at Pulse fitness to get in shape for it. So in last weeks birthday party video, I discovered something I don’t share in common with D. I could never have a partner that likes to have contol over everything, probably because I have a very controlling parent. I’m seriously surprised I’m not gay like so many of my gay friends who have a controlling parent like mine. I joke around with them explaining perhaps it’s because my mom doesn’t elaborate so much on details...ha. Sorry for the lengthy message, I guess I had a lot of catching up to do.
You forgot to mention Midori & Joan Baez as honorees Hayley is an insanely talented dancer, why wasn't she in the company? I loved watching Garth on the show on Sunday. He was so emotional, it was so beautiful ☺️
@@ellenw391 ~~When we are told to wear a mask and the world is virtually shut down because of this virus that is no worse than a lot of other things that kill us, it most definitely about our freedoms.
@@ellenw391 I will never believe it's about science and health! Science 101: humans need oxygen for good health, we exhale carbon dioxide which is bad for our health, and we have a God given immune system. If it really was about health, they should be encouraging us to support our immune systems with healthy foods, vitamins, exercise, and proper sleep. This mask nonsense has been going on for over a year, since April 2020. We know the chance of dying from covid is very low. Do you know anyone who has had it? The symptoms are similar to cold and flu, and treated with OTC medicine. So no, it is not about science and health.
@@lovemymini8418 So the entire world was wearing masks and millions were dying....but all you whine about is your freedoms. Well sorry, I want MY freedom to not have this virus mutate and effect generations to come. We need to start following the science. It should NEVER have been made political!!!
