A lot of welding! Looks like it was designed to use mostly flat sheets to minimize metal forming. What a beauty! Cant wait to see her rigged and out on the water!

When heavy engineering meets art and refined taste. The hulls lines and massive dimensions are a thing of beauty.

I'd tear my house down and park it on my lawn, but it wouldn't fit... if I bought out my neighbor it would still go over the road, and take up a good bit of the lawn across the street.

hundreds of workers, more suppliers who make the deck, the walls, the furniture, the electronics, the paint, the up-keep, the deck hands, the restaurants that the thousands of people who worked on this ate at and left tips for the 10's of thousands of waiters and waitresses. the number of people who pulled a pay check from this project is more amazing than the project. but, would rather all those people had no jobs ? is that your point ? or that only the wealthy can make entire economies turn into prosperity for the masses ?

If you are going to do manufacturing like this for the long hall, why not have a rotating jig? It will cost, but it seems like you're not going to change your technique very soon.

Big deal. The Queen Mary was also built upside down. John Brown ship yard flipped it over a few day before launching into the Clyde in 1934. Early newspaper clippings seem to show Noah did same thing with the arc.

Dont just avoid dealing with my comments by insulting me instead of dealing with my verifiable facts. Of course, not all ships were built upside down. The Titanic was built keel first and if it had not collided with the Hindenburg and sank, you could see the obvious markings that go with right side up construction. We are pretty sure, however, that the pyramids were built pointy end last.

WHY these large boats. WHY are they needed??????????????????????
@zasde35
@zasde35 5 лет назад
Because it is possible !
@benstameister1
@benstameister1 5 лет назад
These yards employ a lot of people and the supply chain employs a lot of people. In Holland, this yard pays a lot in local taxes, everybody that has a part in the building of this boat is raising or has raised a family, pays taxes to some country and or municipality and contributing to society. What we do not know, is what the owner of this boat already gives to charities. There are not a lot of starving mothers in the Netherlands or the EU for that matter. Most people starving in the world today are doing so because of political upheaval and inept or corrupt governments. Why are these needed? why is any "pleasure craft" needed? Because they are fun to sail and you can go anywhere in the world with the power of the wind on a boat this size. Conspicuous consumption is not always a bad thing. Look past the boat itself.
@gautdo
@gautdo 5 лет назад
@@benstameister1 Even if they have sail to move, they still use a lot of focil energy to trim the sails so they aren't green at all. And if the ship yard give some work for the families in the Netherland, I'm not sure it's in that country you need to give the most work. Even if like to see those big boat, I would prefere to see all this money to help some poor countries, not the Netherlands (or any civilzed country).
