" HATS OFF TO WDOT!.....I'm not even a Washingtonian but I love your videos. Regardless, I marvel at the precision removal and efficiency this state's transportation department did accomplishing such a herculean task within a bustling major city. "
Excellent video. Showed a little piece of all phases. Obviously unrealistic, but I would be interested in everyone's salary. That's a "ton" of responsibility.
This was a big mistake waste of everything only in Washington, failure in infrastructure has always been a problem with building especially Seattle, through it together.
Exactly bellgab. And the Alaskan Way viaduct was damaged substantially during the Nisqually Earthquake in 2003 already. That's why every time I drove on it I went as quickly as I safely could so I could get the hell off of it.
Decades ago it was considered progress to build double-deck freeways through cities to expedite increasing traffic. Now it's progress to tear them down. Ironic. San Francisco did well to remove the similarly constructed Embarcadero Freeway from their waterfront area.
So cool! But I don't understand why they filled up the Battery tunnel. They could have used it for a bunch of things such as storage or a huge party lounge lol
The Battery Street tunnel was also old and seismically vulnerable and any upgrades to it would have been extremely expensive: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Viaduct/battery
My family drove on the viaduct as soon as it opened; I was six years old and found the whole experience quite exciting. It's sad to see it demolished, but I guess it was time.
I've been watching the demolition intently on the WSDOT cameras and for the most part the progress has been steady and has proceeded at a good pace. That is with the exception of the Northern end which the South of Bell Street camera has been pointed at. There, they seemed to be milking the job. C'mon guys. Get it done.
They have extremely limited working hours up there. Like, for a lot of the job, it's literally been (iirc) an 11pm Saturday-5am Sunday window for actual demo work, and that's because of the railroad and track use schedules. They can do prep work at all times, but actual bringing things down has been a _really_ narrow time slot.
"All the concrete is being recycled... We put the concrete back in the tunnel" Wait what that doesn't count as recycled You could have filled the tunnel with dirt
Not to mention dirt has nutrient properties, and simply throwing it away into underground pergatory does nothing to help anyone. Avoiding the mass transportation of this "waste" concrete to far away recycling facilities or disposal facilities certainly constitutes recycling. Furthermore, concrete is not an easily recyclable material. In fact, I believe it consumes more energy to recycle concrete than to simply create new concrete. The materials used to make concrete are highly plentiful, so no need to actually recycle it. Simply reusing its rubble for constructive purposes is by all means "recycling".
You are a fool....with as much paperwork and testing to even get on that jobsight...the scenario your trying to portray is non-existent...evaluate your life choices and adjust your mental constraints to achieve a more insightful perspective of day to day life...I wish you luck
