Asics has been on my radar since high school, when a fellow classmate showed up wearing a pair of Onitsuka Tigers. That was in the '70s. His father worked for a global shoe company, and he was able to score some really cool kicks for his son. I ran in the GT1000 and the GT2000 for years until I realized I'd been misdiagnosed as needing stability. Turns out I'm more to the neutral side of things. Currently, I'm rotating in the Dynablast 3 and am very, very happy with the shoe. It is a great, value-oriented, daily trainer in my opinion. It was fun to hear Thomas talk about the evolution of shoe technologies. I've seen so many come and go, and the current trends will probably disappear, or morph into something else. Some new material will come out and it will turn the industry on its head. Seems to happen every few years. Glad to see Asics once again near the front!
Asics have some great shoes but the color ways are quite disappointing. They need to take a lesson from New Balance on that. Of course performance is more important but would like to have both!
Putting the opportunity to spend over £200 on shoes behind a membership (even if its a free one for now) to me ruled Asics out for the time being. Too many brands want more than the substantial amount they charge for their products in addition to that substantial amount and I can't support it.
Very much agree on the confusion on MetaSpeed Edge vs Sky. Hard to put yourself in the right booth to pick the right shoe without trying them on first, so I went to Adidas instead for the race shoe 👠
This episode was so great! Paul’s insight and expertise on the subject and ASICS brand in general is really a good listen. Would love to have another episode similar to this with someone from another major brand, like Nike with the design of the new alphafly
Do you have trees in Baltimore? In VA, shoes with cut-outs pick up tree nuts and gravel to a point where it is a go/no go as to whether I purchase a shoe. Here we often think shoes are tested exclusively on treadmills and never see the light of day outdoors. 😊
