Eve Plumb of course was the better Jan but as my older Brother J.Kevin said on one Friday night "That new Jan sings good."That was the episode in which Greg moved out then back in by the episode's end.Yes told in The TV Guide The Brady Bunch is the show that never dies completely.They even admitted that The Variety show was terrible but even still fun for nostalgia's sake.

I was 9 and I remember it fairly well. It seemed like a looooot or people were riding on the coat tails of the wildly successful Sonny and Cher then Donnie and Marie variety shows. I also remember the swimming pool and thinking it was out or place but nobody else has done it. The flamboyance of Sid and Marty Kroft explains where that came from. There was also Tony Orlando and Dawn, and I think The Carpenters had one but I didn't watch that one. That early surprises me that Robert Reed wanted to do this. He was trained as a Shakespearean Actor and even took the cast to England and the Globe Theater he was that passionate about it. I don't remember how long the Donny and Marie show lasted but I recall by the early '80s the variety show had run its gamut.

You missed a few important facts. Its not true the show had bad in the ratings. The Brady kids and mother appeared on the Donny and Marie show in Brady character with big ratings. The show originally was cast as a one time deal. It premiered in late 1976 with HUGE ratings. America all watched to see the Brady kids grown up. The ratings were so high that the network soon pushed to have it a monthly show. Then it premiered (again) in early 1977. After the first few shows the ratings did tank big time.

The Seventies was a great time to be a teenager. You could still be a kid with no worries and get through college with little if any debt. I watch the sitcom but was too busy with college to watch TV in the later half of the decade. So "Jan" went on to bigger and better things including playing a messed up girl while "Marcia" was a messed up girl in real life and did worse. So much for "Marcia Marcia Marcia".

@Jeff Smith I don't remember Eisenhower, but I was alive during his administration. I recall a smoky house fire in the other half of the duplex my parents rented. I recall sitting on the floor, unable to move, while my parents grabbed what they could to evacuate. I recall later sitting in the garden of the "Moser Cabin" in Tamaqua while my mother put out the wash on lines. I recall sitting on a stone wall watching a squirrel seemingly as big as a cat while I waited my father. All this was well before 1960.

Why would I click the "like" button for this, if the like is really in response to something completely different?!? Not that I would even say that I liked the variety hour, if I could actually recall ever seeing it when I was a sprout. All I can remember is Sonny and Cher and Donnie and Marie, and Tony Orlando and Dawn. I was told that I would get all excited whenever I saw Barretta's cockatoo bopping around. Somebody's desperately trying to pad their Google approval ranking.
@anthonystike6034
@anthonystike6034 4 года назад
There were some major failures in the Variety Hour version of the Brady Bunch, not the least of which was losing Eve Plumb. One that comes to mind is that the show took the family from the midwest to LA, when it was well known that the Brady family already lived in LA, during the original series. It appears to me that the Krofft's never intended to make a serious show out of this idea. In the hands of a competent production team, this idea might have worked and lasted longer than one shortened season. Granted the Kroffts were good at their chosen style of production, just look at other Variety shows of the era and you will see vastly superior production values on the other shows. The Brady Bunch Variety Show was in no way a serious show, and also did not have the production values of the original series, or even of the spoof Brady Bunch movies of the 90s. I was, and still am, a fan of the original series, and yes, while I didn't think it was all that great, I thought the variety show was okay as a spoof. Otherwise it was really a waste of money to film.
@kendane2001
@kendane2001 2 года назад
The problem was not all the cast were song, and dance people. Florence, Barry, and Jeri had the skills to do it. Maureen could have been good if she wasn’t stoned. I’m A little disappointed to hear Ann B Davis had A problem with Rip Taylor’s sexuality. I agree that it was completely unconvincing to see Rip try, and court Ann, but other then that. Eve would not have done well on this show, and instead of shamming her she should be respected for recognizing her limits. You could tell this show was done by fellows who were used to doing kiddie shows for Saturday mornings.

I watched it. The biggest mistake in my my was putting new actors/actresses into spots they didn't belong. It destroyed the nuance of the whole series, and I dream of Jeanie, and some others. It would've been better to just say that she was unavailable and label the other as a stand in. It was very well done though and that is why it was so good. This type of show was booming at the time and it was a new thing in a way. I think that I enjoyed it more than the series itself.

I ❤ the idyllic world of the Brady Bunch. I've seen every episode 10× over. However, I've known about the Brady Bunch Variety Hour, I have never gotten the honor of seeing a single episode., ☹

Loved the original show, of which aired on Friday nights at 8 p.m.on the A.B.C. (channel 7 in Detroit, MI), followed by the Partridge Family, Nanny & the Professor and the Ghost & Mrs Muir. So of course I watched their variety show. When I heard that "Mike Brady" was gay, I didn't want to believe it; just thought He was the perfect father. Still love him nonetheless. Imagine how I felt when I heard that Rock Hudson was gay. Really?! Absolutely loved him in the role of police commissioner "McMillan" on the during the NBC Sunday Night Mystery Movie "McMillan & Wife" episodes. I still watch the Brady Bunch series episodes when I can on FETV or MeTV! Great stuff!

Liked the video. Never watched the variety show. Kind of popped my balloon on Marcia. Drug addiction? Not good. The show does sound a bit weird, and it might be interesting to watch it now.

I was a child when this show came out but I played sports so I doubt I was home when it was on the TV.

Why is there footage of actress Jennifer Elise Cox as Jan Brady in the 1995 movie “The Brady Bunch” mixed in with pictures of Eve Plumb as Jan Brady from the late 60s-early 70s television series “The Brady Bunch”?
