@typhoon5000 it wasn't a "replay" of the drive. Tanner's video used their footage, $30k worth of dozens of cameras from all locations. We used ONE camera on a tripod and two flip cams mounted to the car to make nearly the same video for $0, and this video contains all our own footage.
@gearheadd318 no, the intake manifold has to be different in order to accept the injectors and fuel rails, but you can pretty much buy an off-the-rack FI unit that you can retrofit into nearly any carbed engine.
@EatmyDust1311 I melted our second Microphone on the exhaust of the R8, and we shot this bit 2 days after that (late december), so we had no mic for Tanner. Obviously that problem has since been remedied.
@mellowdalyricist actually, it's a completely different video, using all original footage. if you had watched it before commenting, you would know that.
This video is so cool, they paved that entire stretch of road after he did that, I went after the first vid came out, a lil less than a year ago, and everything was fresh asphalt.. Great drive or ride, stop at the rock store or breakfast or lunch too!!!
@gearheadd318 NASCAR regulations require carburetors to be run during that series. Tanner's car doesn't have to conform to NASCAR specs, so although it's essentially the same engine, some of the parts are different, including the fuel injection system, cams, and cooling system.
@nedfrichman as I've stated before, RU-vid viewer data shows that viewership drops off drastically after the 7 minute mark, so regardless how good the video is, there really isn't a point to making anything longer than 7 minutes, because no one will watch it. Having said that, if you'd like to pay us to make videos longer, please make all checks to The Smoking Tire.
@poopeater14 The actual remaining parts of the original Scion TC are few and far between. It's basically just a TC body dropped on a tube-frame chassis that's set up for RWD like a NASCAR car. Tanner's car probably cost $150k to build, easy.
@c312eal it's well known knowledge that effective drift cars are front engined, rear wheel drive, stick (or otherwise with a manual override), and have at least 350-400hp. Sure you CAN drift a Miata, but the lack of power in that car means that you can't do it nearly as effectively as a car that's properly set up for that. Even the most basic, amateur drift cars have at least 350hp.
@forry90 tanner is my boy, and hooked it up. The secret is that if you want to just down a road, you just have to fill out the paperwork and pay the fees.
@brannyK051 Tom and I will be driving the car and filming the rally. JF will (most likely) be riding in the crew bus from town to town, and editing the day's videos while Tom and I are driving.
@TheSmokingTire Nice team work ;) and maybe better then when all 3 of you guys are in the car. Great vids, great cars =D Keep the wheels rolling! Grtz Matthias
@Daytonaman675 yeah and thats the reason why they invented the camber kit so your rear fat tires are almost half of the bottom touching and makes the wheel slip much easier also its how old the tire is and there are more than 3 methods to initiate a drift

I agree he is pretty good and people should respect the video for how good he can drift cause the people commenting probably can't drift, and besides, how would those people know how to drift? Exactly
awesome stuff Matt. How did you get the hookup to go down there and get the exclusive? I wish I can shut down Mulholland and tear it up with my Roush XD
@PaintPunk09 its a full built racecar...if somthing doesnt fit, make modifications, im sure if u push the fire wall back it would fit. and im pretty sure they didnt just bolt that v-8 on. they had to do some sort of fabricating.
@typhoon5000 We constantly analyze youtube and itunes viewer data. No matter how good the video is, viewership drops off tremendously after the 7 minute mark. Hence, there is almost never a reason to make a video that's longer than 7 minutes. Better to leave them wanting more than to have them leave, bored. Having said that, last week we put out TWO 4 minute videos AND a 1 minute bonus video, so we're actually delivering twice the content you're complaining about.
@TheSmokingTire True true... But it takes pros to drift cars with 130hp. Not only drift it but maintain it and take the proper lanes. When you can drift cars with 130hp, you're prolly the pros of pros because you mastered the weight transition and control of a car. At that stage you can basically jump into anything and just drift it.
@inthepurelight drifting is the art of driving. The difference between a circuit driver and a good drifter is the difference between picaso and rembrandt. Its a taste thing.
@slim5391 Johnny Phay is a motorcyclist.. Mulholland is mainly a graveyard for motorcycles :P Motorcyclist and car drivers who get into accidents on the road leave a piece of their fairing or car part on the tree just to add to the accident list. It doesn't mean they've crashed into a tree.
@tapion123 Name another method then. A camber kit was origianly designed to keep the tire square to the ground while taking a corner. When you have a crazy camber setting then yeah it's going to have a much reduced contact patch.
@poopeater14 I remember reading somewhere that the TC is based on a platform that supported an AWD configuration. That might make the conversion a little easier, but It would still be very expensive and would probably include a lot of fabrication work.
@c312eal DK gives conflicting advice depending on the interview and interviewer. Lets get real here yes it is much harder to setup a 130hp car to drift. Reason being is to get it where you can clutch kick the rear (one of the 3 methods of initating a drift) you have to have skinny tires. This creates a problem with the mechanical grip of the car (also one of the key factors of having a good drift car). Good drift cars have 1g of mechanical grip and the hp to overcome the rear tire grip.
