What goes on behind the scenes on a division one college football field?
Last week I got the chance to spend some time with the wonderful turf crew at Iowa State University and follow them around on one of the best natural turf fields in the country. Today they were painting the field but beyond that, we look at the Kentucky Bluegrass playing surface and in the future I hope to showcase even more of their hard work and dedication to their craft.

rbiersdorff, they stopped taking care of the actual field. We went there for the SandLot/MLB All Star game and the grass was nothing special. The ball wouldn’t even roll with how tall the grass was.

This video was so fun! On of my favorite parts of my week is getting the kids to bed after a long day, then crawling into my bed, putting in the earbuds, and relaxing to a new Knorr video, no matter the content. The production is always top notch. 👍🏻

How often do they aerate? I’ve tried once this year to take it down to 2 inches and killed half my front yard. Still struggling to regain growth.

Did you take a pocket knife with you and cut a plug out and exam the soil, roots,thatch. sand etc ? If you didn't that would be like looking at a car and not popping open the hood and looking at the engine. Just saying!

In addition to the Packers, you should visit Purdue. They have a Bermuda grass field (northern most field in CFB). Also, Penn State has the reputation as the best field in the Big Ten. Michigan State installed their field in three foot cubes, which they remove for non-football events. Would be a cool road trip video!

So they seed before a game..... I think its safe to say you can walk on your grass after seeding. When the grass is sprouting maybe take it easy, but this proves the seed doesn't care at ALL! GREAT inside video!

Awesome video! That field is something special. We took a tour of their facilities when I was in collage and its unbelievable. I'm not sure if you got to take a look at the practice field or not, but it is maintained just as well as the game field.

Truly a beautiful campus we toured it several times with our son. If it weren’t for reciprocity he would have been a Cyclone. He became a Bison instead and won a game in Ames so it all worked out 🤘🏼 great content as always!

no ISU does not use a heat system for the field, the D1 schedule is over before the weather really turns cold in Iowa.
