She's already one at this point. She cooks in the show and cooks live at the house. She might not have been a good one at start but after all this experience and she also has said she cooks for her family; you can assume she is a quite competent one. For a Victorian Head Cook, that is.
I struggle with anxiety and depression, and I'd just like to let you know that, on a particularly bad mental health day, I stumbled upon your Mrs. Crocombe videos and they stopped me in my tracks. Turned my day right around. Thank you for the magic :)
Good job! I hope your English continues getting better 😊 I’m sure you’re very good already. Lots of kids from Mexico come to my school in California and they’re happy here. Many people here speak both English and Spanish, I try but my Spanish is not yet good. I can write, read and understand Spanish (especially the Spanish of people from Mexico) but my speech is slow and not good.
I'm not interested in the dressing up part but the history of how people lived, worked, dressed, and behaved is amazing! I'm a big fan of learning about things like that
There is something about her that reminds me of Bettany Hughes; maybe it is simply the hair color and an English accent, but I think they are both wonderful.
I wonder how the real Mrs. Crocombe would react to watching actors bring her to life all these years later. I think she'd be pleased with the job Kathy does.
My maternal grandmother was the head cook in a house owned by a mining family in Lancashire. She was born in the later Victorian age and emigrated to Canada with my mother and aunt in the late 1920s. She was a fabulous cook. My favourite dish was salted haddock poached in milk. I wish she was still around. I would love to have conversations about her life and times.
Kathy Hipperson is such a cool woman, my gosh! I'm so glad that she does so much work with children, because she is such a great role model! Wow! What a real bada** woman! I am so thankful for this channel and for all of the work and heart that everyone so obviously puts into it. Amazing! All the best from BC, Canada!
*Mrs Crocombe is the queen we didnt know we needed. Fresh faced or beat boots down she is always the effervescent boss. Mrs.Crocombe ran so the girls could walk! The blueprint for Julia Childs, the world was Mrs.C's oyster and she emerged from it.*
Its so interesting to see the personality of the actress and how that comes through in the character. I also had no idea Ms. C was like marriage nah, maybe when I retire. That is SO super interesting because I feel like you never hear about that type of woman in history. Thanks so much for these videos they really are bringing history back to life.
It was very much the norm for 'career servants' from what I hear. With the job being as demanding as it was, and most staff living on-site, it left little room for personal relationships. On top of that, staff were discouraged from seeing one another, just like in modern day offices - one wouldn't want a lovers' tiff to spill into the preparation of afternoon tea or end up with the horses unfed.
Well it was maybe a choice since most women were expected to have kids so she stayed working for a long enough time for that not to happen? Also I remember them saying it was odd she had such a high ranking cook job. But that’s interesting I didn’t know that.
You can tell she loves history so much, that's, why she's been able to portray Mrs. Crocombre with so perfection of details. When you see Mrs. Crocombe you almost get into older days immediately.
The magic is intact. Looking at Kathy Hipperson what I see is a descendant of Mrs. Crocombe. Great great great+ granddaughter who looks remarkably like her ancestor. :) Lovely!
I stumbled upon English Heritage after watching Bernadette Banner, and I haven't stopped watching since. I've gone through the entire repertoire of Mrs Crocombe, and am about to spread out to the rest of the videos. This channel is so very soothing to watch. Thank you all so much for such wonderful productions!
If you want a modern take on mrs Crocombe's recipes, check out Delia Smith, Mary Berry, and Nigella... The kitchens might have changed, and the aprons may look smarter, but essentially most of the food stays the same. 🌸🌸🐝🌸🌸
@caitidid I did the exact same thing to get here! Loved Bernadette's fan-girling when Mrs. Crocombe welcomed her into the kitchen by name as she recognized Bernadette!
Bernadette. A Modern Woman who through her own personality, has created this little crack in time to become a Modern Edwardian and we get to peer over her shoulder and look through this sliver of time.
Coolio 73 Well let us hope someone or somebody, if possible the same production team that Kathy is in, to produce a historically accurate interpretation of Nostradamus. 😉
It's so interesting seeing Kathy make facial expressions in this video that you don't really see in the Victorian way videos. So Nice finally meet the person behind Mrs. Crocombe! Thanks for the amazing video!
I'm stunned by how much her accent is unchanged! I guess that due to the nature of her job, her speech is also extremely clean and she's dropped most modern slang, so it doesn't randomly pop-up during re-enactments.
@@joansmith69 Sorry, but I don't get it ! Is it about Latin and French classes ? I'm french, and I was in public schools (I should say it earlier ^^) ! ;)
@@joansmith69 Are you english ? I don't know how your educationnal system works, but here, we are very lucky ! Beside the french lessons, you have to choose two languages (English and Geman in my case) and if you want to, you can even pick some optionnal classes, like Latin or Greek ! All in public school. It was years ago, and I know that today, the students can choose between a lot of languages, and at a very early age ! :)
@@wikayne Cool! I'm jealous. I'm Norwegian. Only english and german for me, but you can after three years of german switch to either french or spanish if the school hs the teacher for it!
Mrs. Kathy : "having a degree in history and acting might help alot" Mrs. Anne : *reveals about Mrs.Kathy's degree is Math* Mrs. Kathy : *pikachu surprised face* 😂😂😂
Ms. Hipperson. You ARE brilliant. I feel like I'm sitting in your kitchen. The sideline comments of life in the victorian period are educational and fascinating. Hats off to you, the researchers and writers.
Imagine all the stories Ms Hipperson must be able to tell, from her experiences... what an honour it would be to know her personally! She seems so nice, on top of being highly accomplished in many fields. This video is a treasure, like Kathy herself! I hope she knows the joy she brings us through bringing Mrs Crocombe to life!
I concur! As someone with Autism myself the way she plays the part is submerging into the Victorian age. A calm face and demeanor and on at least two of my favorite subjects History and cooking I cannot get enough! Yes!! Please make more videos!
🤩 *Kathy has such an amazing way as being Mrs. Crocombe that by the end of the videos I can just imagine Lord & Lady Braybrook entertaining guests upstairs in the dining hall, chattering away while they await their next course. Such a wonderful way to introduce history to the world!* 🤗
I use antique/vintage cookware all the time. The purpose/use of it is as valid as the day it was made. You just have to make sure there aren't any materials that were then unknown to be toxic (glazes on crockery and such).
Just speaking of female matematicians of the victorian age. Ada Lovelace might be a great role to show that there were indeed exceptions. And personally If I wouldn't have been studying computer science I'd never have come in touch with her at all.
As an autistic adult, hearing about the kid that uses these videos to help them made me tear up. I think just knowing that people like myself have comforts is super important and heartwarming
Kathy is a such a lovely woman. I've recently made her steamed chocolate pudding for my family and they loved it!(I've never made desserts for my family before and that was my first.) I'll try her Christmas pudding on this Christmas Eve. Keep it up, English Heritage. I'll be rooting for you always.
I LOVE Kathy's work and all the great videos about Audley End house. Kathy has really brought Mrs. Crocombe to life. Kudos to all of you in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
She does such an amazing job as an actress!!! I cant believe she isnt a cook ! What an amazing actress... give this woman a major leading role in a big featured film !
Since first encountering Mrs. Crocombe (as portrayed by Kathy Hipperson) I've been absolutely enamored of her. Now that Kathy has been revealed to those of us who are viewers/followers/fans I'm absolutely enamored of her as well. Kathy and the Avis Crocombe she portrays are orders of magnitude beyond brilliant!. Thank you so much for revealing the amazing woman behind the amazing character. Well done!
I'm from USA and I love these videos. It's not everyday you can watch cooking videos by a brilliant actress in the Victorian era. Both of these women are delightful.
Other than her acting talent, what I love the most about her is her voice. Her voice is so magical.. That's why we really enjoy Mrs. Crocombe's cooking lessons in every video........ Make you feel so calm and so comfortable.
The moment I'm out of college and have money and can travel, I'm going to visit. It would be fascinating to see in real life (and seeing either Kathy or another take on the character of Mrs Crocombe would both be fascinating).
This is the cutest BTS ever. They seem to have a good chemistry. I love hearing them talk. I can literally fall asleep to it. Their voice is so soothing.
I feel that question "Am I stupid for thinking this was real all of the time." The first time I saw Kathy's Mrs. Crocombe, I seriously thought her name was Mrs. Crocombe and that this was an actually still surviving household that still operated this way. This role was amazing fit for Kathy and she really brings this character to life. This is one of my most favourite series!!
As a modern American, though some of my family heritage is English, these have been great videos to bring alive the regular people of Victorian era England. They are well done and enjoyable and it's been fun meeting Mrs. Crocombe!
Please make more videos where Mrs Crocombe stares right into my soul. You know - the one where her glasses are slightly inched below her eyes and she looks at you with a side eye.
It’s such a masterpiece that this team was able to present the Victorian Way so well! At first I thought there is still people live in such way! Really respecting you guys! Thank you for the joy that you guys had brought to the audience
“Am I completely stupid for thinking that this entire thing was real, all of the time. Or are you just the most amazing and experienced actor” “Uh, yes” (Laughs) #Awkward 😂
Same here I thought everything is real til this interview, anyway it's informative and entertaining... I'm hook already. Ready to learn English heritage another additional for my stack of knowledge, IAM a FILIPINO anyway.
As a bit of narcissism, thank you for having a degree that you obtained and then promptly ignored as you pursued other lines of work! This is absolutely lovely and thank you to everybody that made this happen. Kathy, you do a wonderful job of bringing the character of Mrs. Crocombe to life, and Annie, you do an amazing job of teaching us all about that period in history! Special thanks to you both. C:
