These guys build a relationship with every single player on the team and know exactly what they need every game of every season! Anyone can be replaced but once you've been with an organization and you have that relationship things move smoother

My brother and I spent 12 yrs working as equipment managers for some minor league Hockey teams in our State, the Indianapolis Checkers CHL Indianapolis ICE IHL, we earned two championship rings and life time of great memories and friends. Its hard work its very time consuming but boy i would go back and do it all over again in a minute. This video bring back tons of memories.

My uncle is one of their assistants... for the record, I'm still a Flyers and a Phantoms fan though (because the Bears were the Flyers farm team until the Aves took them when the Flyers got the Phantoms). But, like half of my gear is Bears or Caps gear. Shoulder pads, skates, helmet, 5 of my sticks, one of my sets of gloves... I do like the Bears though. I can literally walk to the rink. (it would be like a 20 minute walk). I play there sometimes. It's cool parking in the players lot and seeing all of their cars and meeting the players and seeing them around town. Even though it's the AHL, they still get paid well and have sick rides. Not all of them though. And the locker rooms are cool. But we have to change in the away room or the spare. But I've been in their main room once or twice. It's HOT as shit on the ice though. I'm used to a rink not a stadium so when I play there I sweat my ass off. People think it's cold on the ice. It's not. The only part that is cold is literally the ice itself. This is cool to see though.
@Dodger24
@Dodger24 4 года назад
The reason its warm out there is bc stadiums are kept to around 58 degrees due to AHL and NHL standards of keeping the fans happy
@darthollpheist1156
@darthollpheist1156 4 года назад
@@Dodger24 Yeah I know..... That's why I said it... so people that didn't know..... would know.... LOL. It's all good. Thanks. As for the actual temp, I think it's hotter than 58. I would say the average temp of the Giant Center is hotter than that.
@imilf2003
@imilf2003 4 года назад
Stadiums are the worst to play in.. the ice is soft and the pucks don't freeze and bounce around
@darthollpheist1156
@darthollpheist1156 4 года назад
@@imilf2003 Yeah but don't tell that to people that don't play hockey. LOL. They have no idea in the difference between good and bad ice.
@codeman99-dev
@codeman99-dev 4 года назад
Which is exactly why the NHL uses a puck freezer. I've played at CONSOL Energy Center, and you can totally tell the difference between a pre-frozen puck and just something that was tossed on the ice. For the record, I play goal. I robbed Phil Bourque with the glove. So much fun.

This is an outstanding video. So much to learn about the process you have to go through before, during, and after a game. I work in a pro shop now doing things such as skate/equipment repairs, sharpenings, and profiles. I couldn't agree more from the remark about learning something new everyday. As someone who is potentially looking to forward my career path to potentially start working with a team instead of just inside a shop, is there anything you could recommend I do to reach out and try and find these positions? What level do equipment managers start becoming a necessity?

if you live in Canada, reach out to your local junior A team. Especially in the western provinces, earliest equipment manager becomes a full time job.

I know how they feel. In music, or in auto racing, I didn't need to be the star, but I was still in a position, and had to be an all-star for the people who were the show. They were the only ones who knew me, but they trusted me. My face, or my voice had been on national TV, yet you likely will never know who I am. But that wasn't important to me. Hell, I even had a heart attack while working a race on TV. But I made as sure as I could that I didn't disrupt "the show". My wife watching at home didn't even know what happened. She just happen to realize someone else was where I was 20 minutes earlier. Rode 12 hrs. home, drove by myself the last 1½ hours. Wife drove me to the hospital at 3 a.m., surgery at 7 a.m. You'll do anything to try and keep a dream alive, whether anyone knows it or not.

I've heard Kiprusoff used 3/16, Thomas 5/16, and Quick uses 1/4. How some of these guys can use that deep of a cut on soft pro ice is amazing. I'd be taxed by the end of the 1st if it was a busy period.
