Ever wonder how all that gear gets to wear it needs to be? Join us as we follow along with the Detroit Red Wings equipment staff on a three day back-to-back Florida trip last season.
Not just 25 players win the Stanley Cup. An entire well-greased and competent group of individuals behind the scenes are the un-sung heroes. Great video of some of these un-sung heroes.
Meh. Players could do about 99% of this stuff themselves. The only thing they really need is a dude to sharpen their skates. These positions exist for neppy babies
@@CubeInspector says the armchair quarterback has no idea of all the intricacies of how these organizations are run. Physiotherapists and dieticians, equipment managers who know the science involved in the chamber of a blade or the exact fitting of specialized equipment for injuries. Keep being the SJW little Timmy!
@@Pix3lPalace Started out volunteering, doing the job no one else wanted to do my freshman year. By my senior year, I worked up to being an assistant equipment manager. That was 2 seasons ago, going into this season as lead equipment manager.
im playing since 93 7years goaliesemipro..Prepare for mashmart twitch..#99 gretzkills welcome all 3s and 4s my club 32%shooting? ME!!😍 i didnt play hut since i beat them all with my 100kteam..thx again welcome on a newbrandchannel
These guys never really stop working except maybe having some time off during the off-season. None of this video shows how much extra work they need to do for home games, as they are not only responsible for doing their own team's laundry, but also the opposing teams' laundry. They are also responsible for doing jersey setups, equipment repairs and ordering, plus ensuring they pack extra spare equipment for all road trips. The sheer number of total hours per season they are probably on their feet just sharpening skates must be incalculable.
This is fascinating - I love the behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at other aspects of the organization rather than just the on-ice product. Keep it coming!
I've always liked the equipment staff's perspective. There are a thousand tiny details that they execute flawlessly in order to make sure the players are able to perform to their highest levels.
This was incredible to see and get a new perspective on! I don’t think I can watch a hockey game the same way again, and I wouldn’t want to. Mad respect for what these guys do for the team. LGRW!!
This is so cool!! I flew out to Tampa on that Friday (March 4) to watch the lighting game, then drove out to sunrise the following day to see the game against Florida. I had no idea this was being filmed.
Very interesting video. That's a lot of work to deal with like uniforms, skates, etc. The equipment guys are the unsung heroes of the hockey teams. Much appreciated.
Obsolutly a very awesome video and a great idea to do it. I knew it was rough but had no idea how grueling and late they have to work at times. Thanks guys for keeping the team going
For some reason growing up a little boy in 1990’s Utah, the Detroit Redwings home games where ALWAYS on our cable TV, so of course I grew up a big redwings fan.
As someone who personally knows Boyer, this is really cool to see. Amazing guy and does a wonderful job with everything he does. He was in charge of getting our equipment designed and made for my team when I used to play. Thanks for everything Paul.
Treated so well. Endless sticks, skates, and gloves. every players dream. I wish someone would ask Larkin why he switches between Bauer and CCM sticks like every month lol
Best part of the Wings team. 😂 Thank God the players have dry gloves in between shifts, seems to be working for them. In all seriousness, those guys do a great job and are true professionals.
Seems like difficult work - tons of detail and responsiveness required but repetitive, up late, lots of travel. Thanks for the honest look into this process.
What a contrast between being a pro hockey player and a typical beer league warrior. One of my beer league teammates forgot a single shinguard so taped a stack of folded newspaper/flyers to his leg that he found in the rink lobby in order to play that night. No equipment staff to attend to our needs on our team.
This was a great video, nice to learn what happens behind the scenes. Questions: - How much an equipment manager make? It seems to me that you do more work and have a bigger impact on teams success than some of the players in the team. - When is the gear washed? My son used to play hockey and his gear just stunk and it was next to impossible to get rid of the smell. - You ever make mistakes like misplace someone's gear? How to those players making millions take it?
LETS GO WINGS..We're ready for a great season. Even if we don't make the playoffs and we're moving forward like everyone in the league and the hockey world knows we are trust trust me we're all proud of our red wings each and every one of you guys, from AHL affiliate, to every coach, and scout.. Boys are doing a fantastic job/Bang up job...LETS GO BOIES!!!!!!!
Best video on social media is the penguins mobbing the equipment manager for the quick stick change/goal by Sid. Shows the respect players have for you guys.
I do this for my local junior team. Tape, skates etc. I usually stay behind and watch the guys shower for 45 mins, make sure they have enough shampoo and conditioner. Tons of bird watching plus I always pack the bags.
I just have a hard time, waiting for the guys, to gear up for preseason. It's going to be a fun season this year. 2022-2023 once again, a playoff team.
Must smell rype as F during that hot air fan stage!! Would love this job been a player and coach, carpenter now would drop the belt in a second to stack the gloves!
