I’m 13 at the moment and I have an original Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby. They were a gift from my aunt because I always wanted them since I learned who Teddy was (at least 3 years ago). He works like a charm! He has 4 books, 4 cassettes, his eyes and top jaw work, and his audio is very clear! I’m hoping young kids like the new Teddy as much as I love the old Teddy.
I loved the original when I was a kid. Never had one though. I'm not too sure that backlit LCD was a good choice of technology for the eyes though. A reflective Memory LCD like Pebble used for the color "Pebble Time" smart watches I feel would have been a less off-putting tech. The eyes could maintain an expression even when the toy is powered off.
They should have kept the bears original styling but just replacing his eyes with the new ones. The new bear just looks far too gaunt and has no nostalgia factor
My pro & cons: Pro: People like see Teddy Ruxpin coming back, high tech, all Teddy Ruxpin story. Cons: Teddy Ruxpin outfit. You should keep same outfit just like WOW. LCD eyes! What wrong with mechanical eyes?
You're right to say it's about the kids and how they feel about Teddy Ruxpin. Your kid's interaction with him was incredibly sweet. That's what it's all about.
The glowing blue eyes look terrible. I think they should have gone with better colored ones kind of like the cabbage patch doll they showed in the video. I like the new outfit, but I wouldn't call the entire shape of the bear "modern" though. It seems kind of blockey and off.
This definitely falls in the category of "what in the world were they thinking???" You take an iconic looking bear that everyone loves and "modernize" him for the iPad generation and you get the creepiest, ugliest TR I could ever imagine. I collect the ORIGINAL Worlds of Wonder TR and the only other one I'd ever CONSIDER buying is the Backpack brand TR. I would never, ever, buy this 2017 model with those creepy eyes. Never.
Okay, the reason why TVs being turned off isn’t creepy is because they aren’t eyeballs to a kids toy. It’s like saying that blood shouldn’t frighten you because nobody is afraid of apples.
I was 8 when this Teddy came out (I'm 15 now). I prefer the original design. The clothes on the newer one look average and boring. I wish he had brown eyes. Changing an eye colour doesn't make something trendy. I wish there was a feature in the app to change the eye colour.
Exuse me? Im a kid and I think the black eyes are a little creepy... BUT HES STILL ADORABLE AND I WANT HIM SO BAD XD. Edit:Next day and I got my wish! hes on my bed right now!
It’ll always be a shame to me that they went with something so hideously off-model along with all the other completely unnecessary & (IMO) ill-conceived changes they implemented (like it beginning with All About Bears rather than The Airship story and the bizarre dialogue & song lyric cuts) , rather than something that stayed true to the source material. It’s all literally there/in front of them. Why on earth would you ignore it or think of completely changing it? There was clearly a reason he was such a hit & stuck with people (myself included) to begin with, and lemme tell you, It wasn’t strictly/only the technology. Had they redesigned him to look nearly identical/as close as possible to his storybook illustrated appearance rather than stray so far from it (think something more like the costume in the 1986 tv pilot/special or how Garner Holt designed Chuck E. Cheese’s Studio C figure), nobody would have much of an issue with him. That, and if the company truly understood & respected the values, talent & qualities involved in making the characters & stories what they were, he would’ve continued to be as successful if not more than he was when he debuted in ‘85. Not to mention, it would’ve reflected in marketing, the problem is they marketed him the exact same way as every other animated talking toy on the market rather than focus on what made him ‘unique’, that being the storytelling aspect and specifically, the ‘type’ of stories he told. Sad. Nonetheless, the more historical aspects shown off here are great. I just wish that one day they’d do a return the right way and that their archives were stored & handled much better. (Think more along the lines of the Walt Disney Archives). But if not, I just hope that people can learn from this & in the future, nothing like what happened to Teddy after intially starting out so strong/great, ever happens again.
So let’s get this straight: Changed half of what made teddy, ruxpin 100usd and then you want to sell me scans with alternate reality teddy for $5 usd This is a hard pass Blue eyes are recessive and brown are common, so instead of the majority of kids relating to teddy like before and actually having bear coloured eyes now it’s targeted at well to do white people (I’m white and I call bs on this “modern times kid” change If this does well we can expect a horrendous grubby cash in next year? People need to show this the contempt it deserves. Either have faithful nostalgia brought forward with current technology or make something new, this is the worst kind of nostalgia play. Thankfully my son dislikes talking chucky type toys. His mom had this as a kid, and I watched the show. If they made this in a more respectful way to the audience and property (which they bought on the bargain bin) without bs micro transactions on top of a $100 crass doll they might have had a nostalgia play. As is like those gross dead eyes they can shove it. Should just show $ * $ on the eyes in sleep mode that’s all this is, $100 usd for the doll and constant questions from your children why you can’t look at the lazy scans of all the books as they are paywalled for $5*20+books $200 for this think about it (give me the actual books and a code for the app, nope just cash in ripped from predatory fee to play mobile games) $100-200 buys a lot of better stuff this holiday in any kids age range. Or you know you could get an original teddy/grubby and books just saying.
what makes matters worse (im 13 but im a huge fan of the old teddy)is that they made teddy look like from a curious 15-14 year old to a weird looking 3 year old,it also has furbies eyes ;w;
The old Teddy Ruxpin was awesome bought for my daughter she loved it. Now you have to buy an ipad too???? no plus someone trying to sell it for over $200 ??? No one in thier right mind is going to pay that much for a kids toy. You should have left it alone and brind it back as is and sell at a reasonable price. then i would have bought one. but not this new version. kids need to be more into books and physical play. Not another computer activity
