I miss marching band... I was lucky and got to play in the pit! However, when parades came around, I got stuck with the biggest bass drum or cymbals... as a member of the pit, I was not issued gloves. That sucked for our Christmas parade when I got stuck with the cymbals after marching 4 miles. Well, more like the cymbals got stuck to me... ouch.
A 12-string guitar can be a pain in the hand to tune right, but the results are proof of why it's worth it. I'd love to hear Take Me Home, Country Roads on that thing sometime.
As someone who's yet to learn guitar, this is nice. If there is one song I'd like to see done in a fashion such as this, that would probably be Railroad Blues.
as someone who spent 850+ hours listening to the classic RO! soundtrack, I always wondered what happened in the making of the amazing 30 songs for Railroads Online.
'End Of The Line' is a wonderful, ethereal melody. 'Smells Like Kenosha' is hilarious! I look forward to seeing and hearing each new posting. Thank you Hyce, for sharing; both your knowledge of steam locomotive technology, and an exuberant talent for music. 😀
One of my favorite parts about making music is when someone else, or yourself, comes up with something and you get the "oooh" moment. Someone records a part, another person builds upon that with another thing, and again, and again until you have an almost living breathing creature. I think its the fellowship in music, the coming together and the faces that light up when you showing them something cool. Anyways im super excited to see more of these types of videos from you Hyce, and im always looking forward to learning from other musicians. (i may also be excited because i wont sound like a fool sharing my knowldege on this channel)
I know that I've pestered you about this song in the past and I'm so glad that you released it on the discord and made this episode on your new channel about it. Can't wait for the album to come out! I'm sure that all of us in the ES&D RR Pine Tree Division will be listening to it 😁
You know, the ways you pull back the curtain on either music or engineering have a lot in common with each other. Both are starting a skill set and knowledge base that looks very advanced to us on the outside. But even with that audience knowledge gap, you have a great way of explaining just enough of the underlying magic that it clicks and makes sense, while still looking magical.
Yippee the music channel is here! I'm not a music noob but am for sure a stringed instrument noob and never heard of open tuning..... That 12 string is awesome and I loved listening to your thought process. Thank you for the peek behind the scenes. Looking forward to more!! 😀🎶
Hey Hyce, I'd just like to say, I've been waiting for a while to here "End Of The Line" get released, so now that it is. I can use it while playing RRO or DV, and make the whole train vibe more prevelent. :)
Hyce, I had no idea you wrote this song. When I hear it at the end of your videos, it always makes me just stop and absorb it. You've captured the vibe of the railroad with this, it's incredible. It's ethereal. My respect for you just went up tenfold. 😊
Hyce this make the musician in me super happy and glad you shared this with us I've always enjoyed the outro song and had spent hours at home trying to break it down and learn It and knowing know what you have taught us in this video im gonna look for a 12 string (and probably spend enough money my wife makes me sleep on the couch for a month) to learn it correctly and honor the time and love you put into this song god bless you sir may the rails carry you onward and may your music touch so many others hearts and heal them when they need it
My radar has detected something... Incredible! Anyway, that's really cool how 'End of the Line' came to be. It really fits this channel and that wholesome spark of passion and imagination I associate with these channels. Thanks for sharing that Hyce. Lastly; guitar playing 101 maybe?
It is by far my favorite song you have made and the contribution by Wings really does bring it to that next level. So excited for the release! Would maybe be a fun/funny video to do a breakdown of how you came up with Kenosha and how the story kind of gets told through the different sections of the song, just an idea. Can’t wait to see more on this channel!!
This is wonderful, and just what I needed after a long day of work. I'd love to see you cover Kenosha, considering how much use it gets on the RO! episodes.
Holy shit. Been watching your videos for a little while and had no idea it was your own song. It's both soothing, nostalgic, great and comforting sound all in one. I love it.
I came specifically to ask about this piece. The first time I heard it at the end of one of your vids, I was knocked over. Love it. It's just so relaxing to listen to and so ... railroad-y(?).
i know you made this a year ago, but man Hyce, hearing this in every single one of your episodes, it just puts me in awe every time. I love this piece and it puts a tear in my eye every single time i hear it, theres like a connection thats felt in with the guitar, especially the dobro, the 12 string is amazing, but oh man, that dobro, the lap steel, and the harmonica, it just, it made it complete. somethin like this song (hopefully i can at least try to replicate it, and play it on my Tele) would absolutely jump start more of my guitar into my soul.
It's likely you don't know him, but this song always reminds me of the music of a Maritime folk singer-songwriter named Stan Rogers, who also just happens to be my favourite artist of all time. Especially the "chorus" part you mentioned.
That tuning on a 12 string with some of those chords is very reminiscent of Mayonnaise by Smashing Pumpkins to me. I love that song. I'm sure you could do a killer cover of that. As a fellow musician AND foamer, I really appreciate this channel. I can play about 14 different instruments, almost all of them self-taught. However, I am no good any most of them. I started with Piano, and you know how that goes with guitar, which was my second instrument. My dexterity is not made for 6 chromatic lines, I'm still used to one!
I don’t know why, but I would love to have you music on my Spotify instead that I need to shuffle around in your videos to hear your wonderful music 😉👍
Very cool,... Open tunings are interesting, although I never tried it on a 12,( they sure do sound great WHEN they're in tune :P .. As I'm sure you know Zeppelin used a few opening tunings ,as did the Goo Goo dolls,The Black Crows and my favorite Alice in Chains "Over Now" in Open C# (it's fun to play but the tuning is a PITA ... Keep Rockin Hyce
Hey Hyce, i love that your doing this, but it put another song in my head that the chords reminded me of, wondered if you knew it or not. She Talks To Angels, by The Black Crowes
tuesday sunrise is definitely the one that I wonder about the most. It's the longest song in the RO soundtrack and it always gave me that powerful "remembering the good times" vibe. A video on that would be interesting along with the two songs that never made it into the game?
If you watch early back on the main channel, there's actually a video of the recording of Head of Steam. The other, there isn't... both may merit a video. Same with Tuesday Sunrise. That's a fun old tune.

Every time I would hear those simple yet striking renditions of Tuesday sunrise and night job, I would always be reminded of the good ol' days of railroads online and the wonders of the mysteries that Volume 2 would bring.
@@hycestudio5084 oooh thank you sooo much Hyce ! love the album, and especially this song! it fits the outro so well ! and i listen to the album when i am playing RO and making models for the Immersive railroads mod for minecraft :D
I really like your songs and these talks add so much more to them, to se what is behind them. Thank you. Also as you played some parts, it made me remember one song we used to play around campfires - here is link to the official verison on youtube (reuploaded by someone, because small czech folk and "tramp" groups are not really on youtube, especially from the 90s) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-homJ_xZjejQ.html
@@hycestudio5084 I think the tunes make up for it. I remember back when I was into playing guitar I would be self-conscious about that. Didn’t want anyone to get mad 😅.
@@SuperXG when my brother and I started learning guitar, I was 12 he was 10, we would joke about how flipping the bird would always result in a pleasing chord. 😂
Hyce.... I am not a smart man..... I heard you had the End of the line available on line. I wish to have a copy.....I will pay anything.....please help me get this.
@@hycestudio5084 I hope that it wouldn't get copyrighted since it shouldn't be anywhere else on RU-vid and since you (and strings and wings) made it, but I know how messed up the RU-vid bots can be, so idk.
Go for it William! The final tune doesn't use one because I wanted to let all of Wings' madness stand alone, but I've always wondered what it would sound like.
Hey random question. For the harmonica at the end of this song. Was it suppose to sound kind of like a grade crossing whistle? Because that's what I hear and it's great, lol
This is my favorite bit of trivia that I only learned recently. Wings actually used *my* crossing whistle quill for the end harmonica. Somehow I didn't pick up on that until they told me. Touched and had a laugh.
@@hycestudio5084 That's really cool actually. I'd never thought to do that if I was him, thats a cool little touch that adds to the whole thing soo much more.
How do you spell that band that you and wings and strings collaborated Burnham and run is this correct how do you spell the band's name and have you released it on Spotify yet that song is so badass on many levels thank you for letting me know if you release it the job on that song hyce it's badass brother
