The P1800S was a stylish jump into the popular sports coupé segment for Swedish car maker Volvo in the 1960s. Its attractive Italian design was vehemently promoted by Volvo, though in fact a young Swede, Pelle Petterson (whose father was in charge of the P1800 project) completed most of the design under tutelage of Ghia of Italy.
The car may not have won so many hearts had it not been for its starring role alongside beloved English actor Roger Moore in the TV series 'The Saint'. Moore, who would become the next James Bond, loved the car so much he bought it for himself!
This P1800S was generously donated to the Museum by John Powell, who clearly admired Moore enough to fit some ejector seat buttons to the car! Step behind the wheel of this stylish Swede with the National Motor Museum's curator, Matt and historic vehicle mechanic, Nigel.
