I have actually used one of these for live shows in a technical death metal band. I opened for Immolation with one.The soundman loved me and the show sounded great. :-) ... I still have the pedal.

This is the perfect pedal for the broke, beginner bassist. Nowadays, you can play pretty much any gig with just a bass and a BDI21. Love it.

@@Miasma666 Yea, direct into the PA. I personally still use a small amp at gigs but I technically could just go direct into the PA at pretty much every show I play nowadays

I have one of these and have used it live numerous times. Works great especially for the price.

You're fiddling the knobs too quickly. You need to give people a moment to hear the differences in tone after turning the knobs. It's very frustrating.
@wcheng4927
@wcheng4927 6 месяцев назад
You don't have to be frustrated. I think the point of his videos is for you to get a quick impression of what the pedal can sound like. I like his style simply because I'm not going to go through longer videos that are available. I love that it is always the same riffs and same drums every single time, I even made the riffs as my go-to riffs whenever I try new pedals in person.

I have one of these. It’s quiet and cheap. If you need a silent stage rig you can’t get better than this for the price. I feel like it’s not necessary; you can just plug into the PA, but this thing makes the bass feel more responsive in the monitor, more like playing a bass amp, but unless you’re getting extreme with the settings I doubt the audience would notice

The thing is that the Behringer V-Tone is a clone of the earlier versions of the SansAmp Bass Driver DI V1. The later model for the SansAmp had an updated clipping stage more similar to the Bass Driver V2 and the character series, that is why the Behringer and the SansAmp distort differently.

A classic studio staple circuit, for good reason.

I only use it as a D.I. for my bass recordings
@7171jay
@7171jay 7 месяцев назад
@adriano Not the best ever but the price is super low and it certainly offers a much wider range of sounds rather than just plugging straight into the DI of an audio interface. You could of course use a bass preamp plugin in your daw but the BDI21 would get you there and without any latency. Jacks, pots and especially the footswitch seem kind of crappy but somewhat expected considering the pricetag and all it offers.

Use it for recording bass guitar too. But I don't use a DAW. I'm old school. I only use a computer to upload music online & occasionally burn CDs. Although I do use a new Tascam digital mixer/recorder, but only because my other console started sounding really bad, no matter what I do. But it's old & it was cheaper to just buy a new console than fix the old one. This works really good for the price.

I wish they would update it to add a mid control like the v2 of the T21.

Joyo Tidal Wave is a v2 clone. Not as cheap as the Behringer, but still affordable and more rugged.
@JakeStrange66

Someone did some DIY modifications to one of these & added a mid control. Added something else too, but I don't remember what it was. They're selling it on Reverb as I'm writing this comment, but in my opinion it's not worth the asking price (about 3x the price of one of these new.)

@@sparellaawesome, may check it out. I have the Samsamp v2 and am happy with it. But I’ve been debating on getting a cheap backup to leave in the car when doing gigs in case something happens with the Sansamp. Need some sort of DI and it’s either grab a cheap Behringer/Joyo or just take the Zoom B1X Four I already have and just try plugging that straight i to the PA in a pinch. The Sansamp is a tank so prob would never need a backup, but better to be safe than sorry.
@sparella
@sparella 5 месяцев назад
@@FireMrshlBill The Joyo does not run on phantom power, so that limits it's ability to be a stand alone gig saver. Maybe the Tech21 becomes the backup and the Joyo goes on the pedal board where there is a power supply.
@FireMrshlBill
@FireMrshlBill 5 месяцев назад
@@sparella I don’t mind taking batteries and running on that if need be. I have my Sansamp on a power supply as it is since the band goes between their own mixer and the venue’s depending on the gig.

Not the best sounding bass preamp but for the money it does the job and is pretty passable. Yeah the on/off switch feels cheap and might not hold up if you use it a lot or are rough on it. For someone without much cash it can be a good budget solution as are a number of Behringer products. If you have $300 to spend the Ampeg SCR or the Humboldt Simplifier preamp DI's are certainly better built and a bit nicer sounding but you could buy a cheap bass guitar and the BDI21 for the same price.

It works pretty well for me, but I will definitely be getting something better when I can afford to. Not everything made in China is junk though. I have a really good condenser mic that I was surprised to learn was made in China.
