Nice job! I agree, on supporting the little guy! I do believe Behringer is a lot of great product for the money though! Peace and thank you for the comparison. I have a Brains and along with my extremely modest modular set up, performs incredibly. I’m still using semimodular for my Envelopes and Amplifiers, but I’m getting there! Peace!

Thank you for the video! If you had to chose today, which one would it be? Greets from Munich

Hi Janis Robens, it would be the Mutable Instruments Plaits. Given that I already have an external oscilloscope, and a lot of other sound generating modules, so that I'm not really in need of the few extra sounds the brains has. For people new to modular synthesizers I'm sure the brains is an interesting module to look at, also if you're on a budget. But the main reason is the knobs. The rubber knobs of the plaits just feel so much better than the brains plastic knobs. And they are not as close toghether as they are on the brains, which is a huge plus if you have bigger hands. Last but not least, the plaits needs less space in my rack. (12hp to 16hp the brains needs). More space for other modules :-)

@@SundayAfternoonModular thank you for the precise answer. I am on a budget and I don't mind the additional modes on the brains. Also the USB port is a nice addition. So I guess I'll go sjtb tbe brains and swap the poti caps for nicer ones :)

I’m just making an educated guess here, but I believe Behringer will be making some incredible updates to the Brains in the future!

This is exactly the comparison I was looking for and my choice will be the Behringer.

Great comparison, thank you! And for any Behringer haters, you can’t really blame a big company for taking open source code and making their own cheaper device. Plaits is still extremely popular, it might be one of the most popular of the small company oscillators. I’ll probably end up with both eventually.

I can't wrap my head around this double standard that it's okay for manufacturers that are not Behringer to clone these mutable instruments modules with open source why don't you instead take that negative energy and focus it towards your music

Can you connect the brains in to the plaits editor ...by the way is fantastic and awesome... if brains use the same code this could be entirely posible am I right ?

I wouldn't know if this is possible, you would need to try it. I doubt that it's a 1:1 copy, they sure have customized the code to their needs.

Not sure why a lot of people want to spend more money for pretty much the same sounds. Go ahead and burn your money if it makes you happy. I guess you have an ego problem. Behringer products sound great. I'd rather get more for my money. I support Brains... you should use yours.

Looks like someone is having a bad day. :-) There are a lot of reasons why people want to get the original. - because they like it more. - because to their ears it sounds better. - because they want to support small, creative manufacturers. It's not always about the money. ;-) Let the people choose what they want. For some Brains is the right choice, for others its Plaits.

How low can Behringer go?
@TheDavidPoole

As low as the dozens of other companies making copies of plaits and other Mutable Instruments. OPEN SOURCE modules perhaps. You got a microfreak by any chance?
