You are 100% the best source for the Behringer Model D right now -- definitely going to check out the rest of your channel! Thanks for the quality work.
I subscribed after the fortune of finding you. Excellent explanations of the functionality of those cv/trigger/gate inputs. Pretty nice touches added on that Model D. Cheers 🍻
I can't wait to get mine. I've always been too afraid to bring my Moog along for live performances. Now I can have the sound with the risk of damaging a 35+" y old instrument.
Pre-ordered one of these a week or so ago. I have the Arturia V collection which includes a truly excellent Mini V emulation. The whole collection is great, but it's all in the DAW and there are no jacks and no practical way to connect to my Eurorack gear. Thanks for the great demo of what this can do. I'm holding my breath 'til the thing arrives, in Nov or probably 2018.
Totally diggin the vibe on this synth way more than the Roland SE-02 and damn near about every other low priced monosynth out right now. Also thanks for the super demo!! :D
Thank you so much, & don't worry about the talking, its all informative & so welcome. I'm actually an old Australian guitarist who has taken to synthesis like a drummer to drink, but I finally got a model D of my very own. What's changed from the early model is the change to range & scale tuning pots for each of the oscillators. Mine came from the factory horribly out of tune, so I've just been tuning it. Fortunately Behringer tell us how on page 30 of their online manual & also have a vid of the procedure out on their website. I'm now hoping someone can help with this problem. I also have a Beh Pro 1 & 2x Wasps & I'm trying to polychain & pan left & right etc, which isn't a problem in itself as I have the coupling & signal processing gear but........ the Wasps are both out of tune, & very much so with each other but I can find no such tuning pots on the circuit board, nor any info on how to remedy this. Any help would be very much appreciated. Here is something you will find very useful, if you have a problem with dust accumulation on your cables especially. Just cut a a 3 inch square of cotton cloth from your fave t/shirt, then moisten it well with fabric softener, the kind you most likely already have in your laundry, & run your cables through it when hooking up. Its invisible, works a treat & lasts a long time. You'll still have the dust, but just not on the surfaces its applied to. Fabric softener is highly anti static, so it aggressively repels dust. It was developed to counter the charge build up in synthetic fibers that caused a problem when triggered to rapidly discharge, most especially in work wear. Kaboom!
Haha! It's funny that 5 years ago, you said you weren't into Eurorack, after I just watched a couple of your vids playing with your new Behringer System 55. Life is funny that way!😀
hey Jareth @ last something i can use the moog Moogerfooger CP-251 on , are there any other setups you can use it for as new @ this modular applications please... you using 3.5mm MONO Jack Plug to 6.35mm MONO Jack Plug leads fro model d to moog??,thanks 4 great vid..i learned a lot of new stuff and what it does, nice 1...
Figured anyone on this video might enjoy this story. Got a secondhand Behringer model d and it didn’t work properly. Sat on my shelf but came out every few weeks for another test. Finally had the idea to run the mixer out to the LC gate, loudness contour to loudness cv and I finally have a functional synth, bypassing the issue on my board!
great review. true!! like others in the comments i appreciate your way of explaining ..your not personally opinionated and trying to be funny etc your straight to the point w/ solid facts and a lot of show and tell on how to use this and especially educational which is what lacks on some of the other reviewers thank you,
Hi Jareth, I have a patching question? I like a synth where the filter and loudness share the same envelope control like on a Juno 60 or the way you can set an Arp Odyssey to do that. If I patched the loud cont out into cut cv in will I being doing that with the Model D or am I missing something? Essentially bypassing the ADS controls in the filter section and using the loudness contour to shape the filter and the loudness. Thanks for your great videos!
Hi phlattgetit, Yes, you can do exactly as you describe, should work without any problem. Only thing to be sure is to turn the filter contour amount knob to, "0". Your welcome, glad you enjoy my videos☺
Hey Jareth! Is there anything you don't like about this machine? Eye just ordered one from Sweetwater today and Eye'm excited. But wonder what Eye can do with it and the Minimoog Model D together.
Thanks for this excellent demo. I’m a complete noob to CV and wanted to ask a question. I have the Boog and wanted to hook it up with my Microbrute for some modulation fun. Do I need to attenuate the voltage from the brute? Will it fry the Boog? I also have a bsp but can do that in the midi control centre. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏 🙏
Hi System Exclusive, Unfortunately, I'm not real familiar brute instruments so in not sure if modulation output on those instruments have attenuation or not so it may be that you will need either an attenuator circuit between them.
synthpro many thanks for your reply. The brute has 0 - 12v, quite hot like the beatstep Pro. There’s a cv and gate out on the back of the brute that I would imagine I would need to attenuate as I believe the Boog expects 5v. But I don’t know if I need to attenuate the mod matrix of the brute. If any of your followers have experience in using these machines I’d appreciate some advice. Cheers! 🤓
IMPORTANT QUESTION: What type of noise is delivered to the CV mod bus of the Model D? On the original Minimoog, it is always red noise (regardless of the position of the noise select switch and provided the modulation mix pot is in the correct position). On the reissued Minimoog, it is pink noise if the noise select switch is set to white (and white noise is sent to the audio mixer). On the other hand (for the reissued Minimoog), if the noise select switch is set to pink, red noise is sent to the mod bus while pink noise is sent to the audio mixer. So does the noise select switch on the Behringer work like that on the 1970's Minimoog or the 2016 reissued Minimoog?
Hi Jareth, thanks for the Boog videos and demos with explanations. I'm just getting into this (years later), but am looking for a recommended keyboard as controller for this unit. I see vids of people using the Arturia Keystep, but noticed you are using a Korg as your controller. What model are you using? Any experience with the Keystep as comparison? Your advice is appreciated!
Hi Jareth - all your videos look great! I'm in Atlanta and I need my Minimoog brought up to speed, lots of scratchy pots and switches, Osc 2 pitch knob only moves the pitch +/- 1 semitone (range knob works), pitch wheel detente is iffy, etc. Is that something I could get you to do for me? thanks, Herb
hey @ last something i can use the moog Moogerfooger CP-251 are you using 3.5mm MONO Jack Plug to 6.35mm MONO Jack Plug leads fro model d to moog??,thanks 4 great vid...
@Rick D thank you as ive just ordered 6 off eBay as defo mono not TRS/stereo as i do remember needing TRS/stereo for the moog expression pedal and a bass murf moogerfooger fx pedal exp/rate in
nice tutorial :) i have a question. You can route mix out to a another filter and bring it back into the unit and use the unit filter also ? like a parallel filter for ex
M.O.T Matter of time Thank you. Yes, you have the idea, since the mixer section has an out, you could send this signal out into another filter module and you could even patch the VCF contour to the external filter for balanced contours.
Hi Jareth, I'm in a situation that I need the Arturia Keystep's sequencer and arpeggiator, and use another 49 keys MIDI controller's keybed (since Keystep's only has 32 keys) to actually play the entire keyboard. Can I use the Midi part between the 49 controller and the Model D and the CV outputs between Keystep and Model D?
Another useful demo, thanks:do you confirm the little loss in the bass frequences so many people complain listening to the A/B comparision of your previous video?
pietro roncarolo your welcome. I have been playing this unit theough my Roland KC350 amp and its got the lows there, shakes the room. There may be a slight loss in bass response compared to my minimoog but not enough to complain.
Sandy Smith I have had my Dominion 1 for about 3 years now, I have used it in several recordings and absolutely love that instrument, reminds me a bit of ARP synths but with a better quality build.
Can you patch the internal LFO out back into the LFO CV control? Understand that limits it a bit, but still seems like a nice way to get LFO modulation straight out of the box.
Boris Völt your welcome. You will have to plug the analog sequencer in the 1V/oct jack for CV and then use a bridge cable into the Loundness and filter contour Gate in, you can actually still use MIDI to transpose or to set the key you want the sequence to be in. Here is an example of using the model D in a analog setup. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RFnAWIqdMMU.html
whqt time of signal / cable / audio source goes into ext in? is it the main signal source? or is it just to process some other signal input from somewhere else? i have tried inputting regular audio in there but no sound is coming out. sorry but i am still novice and learning by fetching info tkx for the vid. great one
so I just put my beatstep 8V Gate onto the LC Gate of the Behringer D. Didn't really work then I read that Behringer not only accepts only +5V, but that Behringer warns pretty vividly against voltage overload. I didn't notice any problem so far, but what's the worst that could have happened?
Hi,is it possible to controll the model D from a CV sequencer by connecting the gate output from the CV sequencer into the fc gate in of the model D AND connecting the filt cont output from the model D into the lc gate input of the model D to controll both EG's?OR do i have to split up the gate output of the CV sequencer into lc gate in and fc gate in of the model D?cheers!
Hi. Can you confirm that Behringer D contains as fast and super punchy envelopes as real Minimoog? For me that's the most important aspect because having that fast envelope on synths is only available in Minimoog D, ARP 2600 and Sequential Circuits Pro-One (excluding modulars).
If you haven't already, you should check out Ask Audio's Superbooth 2017 video of the Behringer D which showcases the envelope a little bit with a fast arp. But that feels like forever ago. There's also the Sweetwater video which may have demonstrated that.
synthpro Thankyou for reply :-), one more question if you don't mind answering please. Do you know how long it takes to reach a stable temprature and stable pitch , does it use a heater method, or the mat 04 array, or somethimg completly diffrent ?. Regards ;-)
zoom out a bit you're recording at 720p! lol. Blaire Witch Status! Thanks for the vid though. Trying to figure out if I can use this guy with midi input from my M-Audio Keystation 88es ands get CV output for my YuSynth VCO.
nele knut nope, it 'll be another synth that gets hyped & hyped. Yeah, it seems nice & I'd like it too but I've asked the same question a bunch of times, mostly getting no reply. Sweetwater claims to be able to take a pre order for it,yet no actual listing of it or price or date of arrival. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Are all controls MIDI DAW automatable? (I read it had "Comprehensive MIDI implementation with MIDI channel and Voice Priority selection") Also, what are people's thoughts on the quality/character of the filter as it compares with Moog and others?
AmethystLegend I am not 100% sure on this topic but from my understanding the controls are all CV based so not processed which means no programmability of knobs but there is a USB port and I know very little about if there is a software implementation for control, there could very well be software for chaining these together but just don't have that bit of info yet...this being a prototype, there is a lot still unclear what will be in production units.
Hi,i want use the model D unit also via cv/gate controlled from a cv/gate sequencer:Do i have to use a balanced or unbalanced split cable to drive the FC gate input as the LC gate input of the model D?Does it matter if the split cable is balanced or unbalanced?cheers!
It is definitely for eurorack. For some reason we haven't gotten the exact dimensions yet.. I want to put this together with my Mother-32 in a rack but I can't design it until they say how many hp :(
@@ronnieaux5290 I was surprised the D was about 3" wider than Mother 32, I'd assumed they were both 60hp, doesn't matter as I'm reconfiguring two Mother's from side-by-side to a two tier rack.
Hey synth pro have you seen Synthchasers video's? He's a repair tech like yourself and he's always fixing Oberheims and LinnDrums. He's incredibly good check him out if you have a chance.
UYOYU MUSIC yes I have read a few people being really elitist about it all., about how they only buy the originals because "Blah" really ignorant stuff - as if those that buy this model D wouldn't jump at getting a "real one" if they could afford them.
You can sell yours while they still hold value among rich idiots and get this small and compact unit. Trust me, it won't impact your musical abilities or production value of your music.
Will B Don't bother with the elitist idiots. Most of them can't even play keyboards or write decent music. Most people I've seen who own gear-filled man caves write utter SHIT and know very little about their gear, because they have too many synths and spend very little time with each unit. Don't bother with them... There will always be naysayers.
Brett Anthony Exactly! Some people just don't get that better gear doesn't correlate with better music and expect to make masterpieces with expensive synths. Wise words, Brett. It's a shame a lot of people are too poorly educated these days to know physics on a basic level or have a little grasp on el. engineering.
Thanks, good info, thanks for taking a break from robotic genetism (tell me he doesn't sound like Sebastian from Blade Runner : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CLPpXNhL9z8.html )
I talk so the people that are actually interested can understand what the heck is going on....nothing worse that a bunch of noodling without explanation. I'm glad you liked my video, thanks for watching 😁
