Behringer Model D - I am selling it already 

The problem in Canada is 1. Unrealistic prices (and lack of competition only partly explains this, the larger part is apparently 2. Canadian government whose Raison D'Etre is to ruin all and any private enterprise that hasn't already ruined itself thanks to its inept business practices - so there's part 3). But I digress. In the end - because of such prices - no one wants to buy anything that costs more than $500 CAD, and that in turn causes even the large stores like L&M to not purchase anything worthwhile... At all... So anything even remotely good is perpetually "out of stock", and if you are one of those die hard local economy supporters, - you will be purchasing an out of stock product and then you'll wait a couple of months to have your gear finally delivered. (I've heard of cases where people were waiting longer than 6 months, though it never happened to me... Yet?). The situation isn't any better for Canadians when they use large US chains like Sweetwater. Shipping companies like UPS are a mafia that charges you 2.5X duties and taxes (I wish I was exaggerating, I was recently dinged over $600 CAD for an item whose duties and taxes equaled to $259 CAD. So the only places a Canadian who isn't a millionaire could actually shop for music gear comfortably is 1. EBay, and only from the sellers who use regular mail to ship, or who are onboard with EBay's GSP (Global Shipping Program, which charges only about 8-10% more than the actual duties and taxes, which in case of synthesizers is 6% + your regular HST). 2. Reverb (for used gear only) and 3. Kijiji (also, obviously, for used gear). So yeah bro... It sucks to be us.

I tuned my model d internally with just with a screwdriver. It was badly out of calibration when it was new but it has stayed ok for over a year now. I calibrated the tuning to a VST synth's tuning to get it right over a 5 octave keyboard.

You need AJH Synth V-Scale module. Friggin' awesome! Trigger Model D via cv with V-Scale separately trimming each oscillator tuning/span. My secret weapon. I tune against VST synth square wave.

You have a new Tgirl Sub.... maybe David's a chaser! 😉 😅 I am a guitarist of 35 years, and I run 3 giant pedalboards along with 6-7 synth pedals, I am essentially running my pedalboards like modular synths, but instead of a keyboard..... I do crazy guitar shit, and a sustainiac loaded guitar can already do theramin tones, add a Way Huge Ringworm or EQD Data Corrupter with some phase, fuzz, comp, delay, verb, and tremolo and yeah.... I have been essentially using a "floor Eurorack" for years now..Just through 300W combined tube amps and 12x12 guitar speakers- 2 x3/4 stacks-!. I don't even need to plug the guitar in to play it! (fuck its expensive! Well, I get cool gear in the USA, you stay cool and have free healthcare... we go bankrupt getting a 5 mile ambulance ride.....Canada still wins good Sir!!!!)

Just tune it. It's not that hard. Even I manage to tune _mine,_ and I'm a complete dolt.

Behringer has no quality check, this ine is mad out of tune, calibrate it , its simple all u need is a smal screwdriver and some patience.

if you don´t want to deal with that, totally up to you of course, but the whole operation of calibrating the oscillators takes about 25min if you have never done that... and 10 min of that is just warming up the damn thing. the Behringer Synthtribe software and a USB cable to your Model D make it straightforward to reset the machine and change control voltages and calibration stuff... opening the thing up and running the notes you need for calibration in your DAW is a breeze and you should be good for a while... I mean I like my Sequential Take 5, just clicking the "calibrate button" in the main menu and have all that done for me in a couple of seconds but for the price and the fact that even other more pricey machines still have these "quirks", I´d say this is manageable.. just take 30min and be done.... or not^^ I can definitely understand why not.

There are two screws per oscillator, pitch and “octave drift”. You tune the first to a high pitch like A5 and then the second to a low A2 and repeat. Took me 30 mins. No sysex sex. It’s like tuning a guitar with a Floyd rose when you need to revisit previous pegs & do it multiple times.

Behringer is hit or miss, I guess right. Ignore the ridiculous trolls. Just do what makes you happy. And If you dont have the Minifreak... Well... Definitely you need the Minifreak if you dont have it. 🤘👽🛸 Cool channel man

Aside from David, welcome to the land of musical toys...I do not have any modular gear yet, so right now I use my hardware samplers for efx and to mangle/ alter the music. I do have an analog Roland and run music through that, and I am exploring software like Macaw, Acid, CSound, etc, because I like total chaos/control at the same time. I might get something like the Model D, Proton, and especially want the Moog Subharmonicon...

Had mine for years and I haven’t noticed any drift.

I have a Pro-800 and though it sounds great and is easy to tune, it goes out of tune within a minute or two.

Oh, for the other thing... Don't get Model D, definitely. For a semi-modular mono synth it's positively boring. Get "Neutron" and "Cobol", (if you're into Behringer clones) and you'll be loaded up to the gills. Or if you're the monophonic guy, - get Neutron and Proton. And you would prolly benefit from a comprehensive sequencer of some sort - the more steps - the better... One that is a bit more articulated as far as interface compared to the Keystep. As far as knowledge and plans go, - I know (sort of) what I'm doing, and I have a plan... But you know what my friends from the Middle East say? - "You want to make the Maker laugh - tell him about your plans". I have gear I bought months ago and still haven't even unpacked, because it needs to work with OTHER gear which suddenly is "out of stock" everywhere and at once online, or just isn't available for acceptable price. The one good thing I noticed is that your studio is the epitome of cleanliness compared to mine. So your equipment has greater chances of becoming "vintage" and gaining rather than losing its resale value 😂

Oscillators drifting is an issue with lost of VCOs, in eurorack as well. Definitely the Model D is not special in that regard. I've had to tune expensive oscillatos more than once. Forget the drift, I think between the Mother, Grandmother and this Model D you have a lot of overlap. If you want a ready to go pre-patched module for your case that can also be patched, there's much better options. Intellijel Atlantix, the Pittsburgh Modular Taiga, the Behringer Neutron or the incoming Proton are ones that come to mind.
