Having owned a sh101 in the late 80s to early 90s, and now owning the ms101 I can safely say the ms101 rocks. Improved sequencer, midi, usb, and the fm mod this is not only as GOOD as the original, it is BETTER.
@@godot5082 agreed, sequencer is better in every way except that, no way to chain patterns together, which the original sh101 had, it seems like something that could be fixed in firmware but still hasn't happened, I doubt it ever will unfortunately
@@jamesangusmusic if your looking to sequence in real time then a daws fine. If however you want to use step time for short sequences and then change the key of the sequences live at a gig, by simply hitting keys on the synth changing the root note and therefore the sequence for say short arpeggios that you can’t get with the onboard arpedgiator then use the onboard sequencer. Great for all types of dance music, and phychadellic/space rock type stuff.
Great review. At first I thought you were off your meds but I like the way you worked methodically through the features without becoming the teacher droning on about the Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act; you just let the funky riffs do the explaining.
Your playing in the intro is incredible - quite amazing. Plus, it answered the question as to whether it could get a nice, "traditional" if you will, lead tone ala Chick Corea. So Thanks You so much for the video. You are very, very talented and this is the best MS-101/MS-1 video out there now!
Jack, you're an absolute star mate, don't ever change... and a great version of this synth from Behringer (I'm still gonna wait for the black model though) :D
Hey! Does anyone know if there's a way to quantize the triggering of another saved sequence whilst playing a previous one? That is, whilst you're playing one sequence, are you able to then choose another one that will play after the final step of the previous pattern has finished, instead of immediately when you trigger the pattern? The above description is how the TD-3 works and I wonder if there is a mode to do the same thing on the MS-101. This is with the intention of choosing between different patterns during live performance. Thanks!
Yeah, that guy who used to do some kind of paid work for Moog really gets around. I have seen the nearly the same comments on multiple websites under multiple names. As long as Moog continues to make great products, there will be plenty of sales for both MOOG and BEHRINGER. I think the Behringer D was fair game since the circuit for the MINIMOOG is now 49 years old and Behringer upgraded it with a patch bay.
Give Jack some speakers that never tweak out when he brings his full on, in the raw, bottom end! Jack is not a sweaty guitar player. He needs equipment to handle the throbbing frequencies overflowing from the seams and brim of his bulging metaphorical musical trousers.
What;s the difference between this red Behringer MS-101 and the MS-1 in 3 different colours red / blue / black that are all on the website? ... The red MS-1 has a 30 August 2019 delivery date but the MS-101 is in stock on the website as of 7 August. ... There was an original SH101 in a local music store back in 1986-87 for about £110. I didn't buy it! I did get a Pro-One from that shop for £160 though. It's broken now!
I read somewhere that the MS 101 is lacking bass, according to the opinion from a user. What do you think about this statement? I would like to believe is not true, cause I ordered it mainly for bass sound purpose. Thanks
Hi! I am interested in purchasing this for my son and have a question.. What is the gadget off to the upper left plugged into the keyboard? And is this a necessary accessory to go along with the keyboard? Thank you!
That is another synth called OP-1 that costs a lot more than the keyboard being played. It is totally not needed and for the price that it costs, you could buy 4 of these keyboards.
Does it have a tune knob like the original SH-101? (I don't think you explored that option ;) ) Its awesome that Behringer have produced this and I'm keen to try one out. Im a big fan of Rolands SH-101. Im assuming this is monophonic like the original. Great to see the addition of MIDI too .
Got rid of my SH101 and bought this. Very happy! No useless battery compartment means smaller footprint, lots of external integration options via CV, USB, MIDI. Sequencer, Arp, FM, audio in processing. And all components new so not expecting a capacitor to check out on me that's been in there for four decades. And it cost $350 USD. Sound? It is just like my sh101. What's not to love???!!
Was never a fan of the original SH and doubt I would ever buy the MS-101...mainly because I am more a pads and samples sort of geezer BUT....Behringer have done a fantastic job with this. People can hate on it all they want, it doesn't change the fact that it is a very good SH clone and in some ways even better than the original. Now that the patents are dropping on many classic keyboards I am certain we will see a lot of great new/old products coming from Behringer in the not too distant future.
How can you not like the sound of an sh101? It's been used on a lot of classic techno, house, ebm and electro records. This one to me doesn't sound the same.
@@jackmasterdick You do realise that there is a vast swathe of the worlds population that are not and never have been into techno, house, ebm etc? If it doesn't sound the same to you that's fine. Not trying to convince anyone. It just sounds the same as the original to me.
I know man, been waiting for well over a year. But I'm glad they delayed the release until they were ready. But then 2 years ago, I held NO hope to ever own a 101. Now it's happening!
Hey any chance you could arrange Jimmy Dickinson from Little Angels to come in and jam on it! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! The Captain knows his brother Bruce.. please make that happen!!!
I'm brand new to synthesizers but I think they are so cool and I am interested in getting this one. I saw the you had two things plugged into the back. One cord was going under the table was that one a power source? The other one was attached to something on the table what was that? (So sorry but I am very new). Will I need to buy the thing that is on the table or is that for more advanced? Does it come with the power source cord?
I think about buy one like that to start to make techno/house funky .. i didnt know you can use like a guitar like.. looks funny too but i hesitate for my first buy with arturia microfreak,(sounds so awesome), but i think the ms 101 is more basic and maybe better to begineer , learn the basic.. after that i need a drum machine.. but same problem , difficult to make a choice,, korg volca, drumbrute impact, or minibrute 2s (half modular) minibrute 2s looks good for learn modulation too, but i dont know if its a good drum machine or if its better to choice in a second drum machine and buy another one for the first,, like korg volca beats an opinion about a good combo/trio for starting ? i love adana twins sounds, solumun style DJ, etc
Jack I love your humor and your playing but why don’t you ever use a filter envelope? I just want to hear some plucky bouncy rubbery plasticky popcorn square bass plz.
Wow, overnight delivery from Jack and the team. This thing is a monster! If I had realized how big it is I would have just put a guitar strap on my Jupiter-80! But seriously it is an excellent build and functions beautifully.
Shut Up 'n Play Yer Keytar...with appy-poly-loggies to Franz Zappa. Too much talk and the horrible sounds that would irritate my first (and only - ie. "lessons learned") wife who hated the sound of my PAiA 2720 synth kit in the early 70s. I now have 11 new synths and no wife, luxury! Perhaps you could stop talking nonsense and go out to the shipping department and assist (annoy) them with #12 for shipment this afternoon. No seriously though, great demo, can hardly wait to annoy the neighbours tomorrow.
Well, Behringer is a massive company that lives on stealing and copying. So next time before you do an ad for them just think it over what you are actually doing.
Maybe behringer will actually have to start an R&D department soon...instead of a C&D (Copy and Duplicate) department as they're going to run out of other people's idea's to COPY...then watch their prices go up...behringer are bad for the industry...very bad.
